Chute Forest

St Mary's Church in Chute Forest, Wiltshire, England, was built between 1870 and 1871 and consecrated in 1875. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is now a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was declared redundant on 23 August 1972, and was vested in the Trust on 26 March 1974.The church was built of knapped flint, brick and tile with a pyramid spire, by John Loughborough Pearson for the Fowle family. At the time there were 188 parishioners. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Salisbury on 15 August 1872. The nave and aisles are spanned by a single roof. There are encaustic tiles on the raised floor of the chancel.The roof is of open trussed timber rafters. There is a three-stage tower topped with the spire which is a highly visible from the surrounding area. The church had six bells cast in 1871 by Mears & Stainbank of Whitechapel Bell Foundry. In 1976 these were removed and rehung in the Church of St Nicholas in Chute. The west window includes stained glass by Clayton and Bell a partnership of John Richard Clayton (London, 1827–1913) and Alfred Bell (Silton, Dorset, 1832–95). The west window has glass also from 1914 but in a different style. There is a wall tablet to Frank G. Fowle who died in 1942.The parish was merged with that of Chute in 1954. The Chute Forest church closed in 1972. An annual service is still held at the church.

Biddesden House (or Biddesden Park) is a Grade I listed English country house in east Wiltshire, about 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Andover, Hampshire. The house stands in parkland about 2 miles (3 km) east of Ludgershall village, and is home to an Arabian Horse stud farm.

Chute is a civil parish in east Wiltshire, England, on the border with Hampshire. It includes the main village of Upper Chute and the smaller settlements of Lower Chute, Chute Standen, Chute Cadley and Mount Cowdown. The settlements are sometimes known collectively as "The Chutes". The nearest town is Andover, Hampshire, about 6 miles (10 km) to the southeast. Conholt House and Conholt Park are in the northeast of the parish.

Appleshaw is a village in the English county of Hampshire. The name Appleshaw is derived from Old English ‘scarga’ - a shaugh or wood; thus Appleshaw may mean ‘apple wood’. It includes the hamlet of Ragged Appleshaw, the ‘ragged’ possibly being a corruption of ‘roe gate’ - the gate of the Royal Deer Forest of Chute. The northern boundary of the parish is the Wiltshire border. This small parish lies on the Wiltshire border and includes the hamlets of Redenham and Ragged Appleshaw, including part of Redenham Park. Granted the right to two annual fairs in 1658, Appleshaw became a rival to the great Weyhill sheep fair. The Salisbury Journal in 1801 reported that 15,000 sheep were sold at Appleshaw - a reduction on the previous year's total. W. G. Grace once played cricket here, with his bat made of Wallop willow. In the middle of the street a clock sticks out from a barn wall, placed there to celebrate Queen Victoria's jubilee.

Clanville is a hamlet in the civil parish of Penton Grafton in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. The hamlet lies within the North Downs Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border. Its nearest town is Andover, which lies approximately 5.6 miles (9.1 km) south-east from the village. Clanville has a village pub, the Lion, and a village hall, known as the Coronation Hall, which dates from 1953. The former St Margaret's Chapel dates from c1860 and is now a private residence.Clanville House is a Grade II* listed mansion, dating from the early 18th century.Blissamore Hall is a modernised stately home, with parts dating from the 17th century. An earlier manor on the site is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book. Also known as Clanville Lodge, its former residents include General Edward Mathew, and the High Sheriff of Hampshire, Henry Bosanquet. In 1967, it was developed as a equestrian stud which from 1995 was operated by Sir Christopher and Lady (Jennie) Bland.

Tangley is a village in the English county of Hampshire. Tangley is situated north of the old market town of Andover and the village of Charlton, Hampshire. Tangley Parish covers an area of 4,017 acres (16.26 km2) and has just under 600 residents in three villages, Tangley, Wildhern and Hatherden and the hamlets of Charlton Down and Little Hatherden. It lies in the north west corner of Hampshire and most of it is an officially designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The houses are typical of the different kinds to be found in the area with the older ones being of flint and brick and chalk cob with thatched or tiled roofs. A walk through the parish of Tangley takes one through woodland, downland and farmland. The villages are scattered over the chalklands south of the Hampshire downs, on high land which overlooks the Bourne valley to the north and the remains of Chute Forest to the west.

Redenham Park is an estate in the civil parish of Appleshaw,[A] Hampshire, England, surrounding Redenham House, an 18th-century Grade II* listed country house.The house was built in 1784 for Sir Charles Pollen and is a classical mansion faced with Bath stone, standing to two storeys with a slate roof and sash windows, and a central porch with coupled Ionic columns.It descended in the Pollen family via Sir John Pollen, 2nd Baronet to the latter's great nephew Sir Richard Hungerford Pollen, 4th Baronet. In the late 19th century the house was occupied by Major A.W.Fulcher, a well-known cricketer and yachtsman. From 1976 the house and estate belonged to Sir John Clark, the chairman of Plessey. It is now occupied by his widow, Lady Olivia Clark. The park and gardens have been described as 'the perfect setting for a Jane Austen novel'. They comprise 2.5 hectares of garden, 24 hectares of parkland, 36.5 hectares of woodland and 337 hectares of farmland. The gardens are featured in The Good Gardens Guide and are open to the public by appointment.

Bevisbury is the site of a former Iron Age plateau fort in Hampshire, England. The fort lies on a chalk ridge and is of a single bank and ditch construction, enclosing an area of 1.7 hectares (4.2 acres). The earthworks are now largely destroyed and overgrown, with the southern ramparts the best preserved. There are several pits that have been cut into and around the site which were probably quarries, and a private house lies within the north-east corner. The site was designated as a scheduled monument in 1951.The site lies to the east of the village of Chute, in Wiltshire, but itself lies just within the civil parish of Tangley in the county of Hampshire. The site is bisected by a Roman road, now Hungerford Lane, which travels broadly north-west to south-east, and runs between Winchester and Mildenhall (near Marlborough). Ramridge Park is a hamlet in the civil parish of The Pentons in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Penton Grafton. Its nearest town is Andover, which lies approximately 3.75 miles (6 km) south-east from the hamlet.

Conholt was a small village in east Wiltshire, England, close to the Hampshire border and about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Andover. It is now the site of the Conholt Park estate. There may have been a village here in the 13th century, but by the 16th there were only farmsteads. In the late 17th century a deer park was created. Since the 19th century the land has been part of Chute civil parish.The country house known as Conholt Park was built in the late 17th century and extended in the 18th and early 19th. The house is Grade II* listed and its 18th-century stable block and carriage house are Grade II listed. In 1992 the estate was acquired by a company belonging to the family of Paul van Vlissingen, an Anglo-Dutch businessman and philanthropist; it was his home from 1994 until his death in 2006. American billionaire Steve Schwarzman purchased the house, with 2,500 acres, in 2022 for an amount reported to be in excess of £80 million.
