Chute, Wiltshire

St Mary's Church in Chute Forest, Wiltshire, England, was built between 1870 and 1871 and consecrated in 1875. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is now a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was declared redundant on 23 August 1972, and was vested in the Trust on 26 March 1974.The church was built of knapped flint, brick and tile with a pyramid spire, by John Loughborough Pearson for the Fowle family. At the time there were 188 parishioners. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Salisbury on 15 August 1872. The nave and aisles are spanned by a single roof. There are encaustic tiles on the raised floor of the chancel.The roof is of open trussed timber rafters. There is a three-stage tower topped with the spire which is a highly visible from the surrounding area. The church had six bells cast in 1871 by Mears & Stainbank of Whitechapel Bell Foundry. In 1976 these were removed and rehung in the Church of St Nicholas in Chute. The west window includes stained glass by Clayton and Bell a partnership of John Richard Clayton (London, 1827–1913) and Alfred Bell (Silton, Dorset, 1832–95). The west window has glass also from 1914 but in a different style. There is a wall tablet to Frank G. Fowle who died in 1942.The parish was merged with that of Chute in 1954. The Chute Forest church closed in 1972. An annual service is still held at the church.

Chute Forest is a village and civil parish in east Wiltshire, England. The parish is bordered to the east and south by the county of Hampshire. The village is about 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Andover and 3 miles (5 km) to the east of Ludgershall.

Biddesden House (or Biddesden Park) is a Grade I listed English country house in east Wiltshire, about 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Andover, Hampshire. The house stands in parkland about 2 miles (3 km) east of Ludgershall village, and is home to an Arabian Horse stud farm.

Hippenscombe is a hamlet within the civil parish of Tidcombe and Fosbury, Wiltshire, in the southwest of England. Marked only on large-scale maps, it lies to the southwest of Oakhill Wood and the northwest of Conholt Park, about 8 miles (13 km) south of Hungerford, Berkshire. Hippenscombe has a long separate history of its own, having been an extra-parochial area. Much of the land was assigned in 1553 to Edward Seymour (1539–1621), later Earl of Hertford and the builder of Tottenham House in Savernake Forest, and was owned by his descendants until sold by Charles Brudenell-Bruce, 1st Marquess of Ailesbury in 1827. The area was severely affected by the Swing Riots of 1830. The population taken at 19th-century censuses was never more than 59, and by 1891 had declined to 35. Acres, 980. Real property, £545. Pop., 42. Houses, 11. Hippenscombe was added to Tidcombe ecclesiastical parish in 1879 and to Tidcombe and Fosbury civil parish in 1894.

Tidcombe and Fosbury is a civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Marlborough and 7 miles (11 km) south of Hungerford, Berkshire. It includes the three small settlements of Fosbury, Tidcombe, and Hippenscombe and lies on the eastern edge of the county, where Wiltshire meets Hampshire. The Iron Age hill fort of Fosbury Camp is in the south of the parish. The population of the parish peaked around the time of the 1861 census, when 274 were recorded; by 2001 numbers had declined to 93. Rather than a parish council it has a parish meeting, with all electors entitled to attend and vote at meetings. Anciently the lands of Tidcombe and Fosbury were separated by a tongue of Shalbourne parish, which until 1895 was in Berkshire. Hippenscombe, formerly an extra-parochial area southwest of Fosbury, was added to the parish in 1894, and at the same time the modern name of the parish was adopted; it had previously been named Tidcombe. In 1934 almost all of the tongue – 501 acres, with a population of 20 in 1931 – was transferred to Tidcombe and Fosbury. The parish was part of the former district of Kennet until April 2009. Most significant local government functions are carried out by the Wiltshire Council unitary authority. At the parliamentary level, the parish is part of the Devizes county constituency.

Fosbury Camp, is the site of an Iron Age bivallate hillfort located in Wiltshire. The site is oval in shape, and approximately 26 acres in area The site is a scheduled national monument number WI162. The fort sits atop Knolls Down and is excellently defended to the south, south west, and east, from the very steeply sloped topology. To the north the land is less steep, and is mostly bounded by Oakhill Wood. To the west the ground rises to the true summit of Haydown Hill. In the eastern side of the camp there lies a pond, perhaps an original feature of the neolithic site.

Conholt was a small village in east Wiltshire, England, close to the Hampshire border and about 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Andover. It is now the site of the Conholt Park estate. There may have been a village here in the 13th century, but by the 16th there were only farmsteads. In the late 17th century a deer park was created. Since the 19th century the land has been part of Chute civil parish.The country house known as Conholt Park was built in the late 17th century and extended in the 18th and early 19th. The house is Grade II* listed and its 18th-century stable block and carriage house are Grade II listed. In 1992 the estate was acquired by a company belonging to the family of Paul van Vlissingen, an Anglo-Dutch businessman and philanthropist; it was his home from 1994 until his death in 2006. American billionaire Steve Schwarzman purchased the house, with 2,500 acres, in 2022 for an amount reported to be in excess of £80 million.

Bevisbury is the site of a former Iron Age plateau fort in Hampshire, England. The fort lies on a chalk ridge and is of a single bank and ditch construction, enclosing an area of 1.7 hectares (4.2 acres). The earthworks are now largely destroyed and overgrown, with the southern ramparts the best preserved. There are several pits that have been cut into and around the site which were probably quarries, and a private house lies within the north-east corner. The site was designated as a scheduled monument in 1951.The site lies to the east of the village of Chute, in Wiltshire, but itself lies just within the civil parish of Tangley in the county of Hampshire. The site is bisected by a Roman road, now Hungerford Lane, which travels broadly north-west to south-east, and runs between Winchester and Mildenhall (near Marlborough). Redenham is a small village in the civil parish of Appleshaw in the Test Valley district of Hampshire, England. It is in the civil Parish of Fyfield. Its nearest town is Andover, which lies approximately 4.8 miles (7.7 km) south-east from the village. Redenham House is a Grade II* listed country house which stands in Redenham Park.

Redenham Park is an estate in the civil parish of Appleshaw,[A] Hampshire, England, surrounding Redenham House, an 18th-century Grade II* listed country house.The house was built in 1784 for Sir Charles Pollen and is a classical mansion faced with Bath stone, standing to two storeys with a slate roof and sash windows, and a central porch with coupled Ionic columns.It descended in the Pollen family via Sir John Pollen, 2nd Baronet to the latter's great nephew Sir Richard Hungerford Pollen, 4th Baronet. In the late 19th century the house was occupied by Major A.W.Fulcher, a well-known cricketer and yachtsman. From 1976 the house and estate belonged to Sir John Clark, the chairman of Plessey. It is now occupied by his widow, Lady Olivia Clark. The park and gardens have been described as 'the perfect setting for a Jane Austen novel'. They comprise 2.5 hectares of garden, 24 hectares of parkland, 36.5 hectares of woodland and 337 hectares of farmland. The gardens are featured in The Good Gardens Guide and are open to the public by appointment.

Tidcombe is a small village in Wiltshire, England, on the eastern edge of the county, near Hampshire, about 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Marlborough and 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Hungerford. With few inhabitants, it forms part of the civil parish of Tidcombe and Fosbury, which has a parish meeting.

Faberstown is a settlement in the civil parish of Ludgershall, Wiltshire, England. Its nearest town is Andover, approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) to the southeast. At the beginning of the 20th century a local Member of Parliament, Walter Faber, began building houses to the east of the village of Ludgershall, on land in Hampshire. This settlement became known as Faberstown. By 1970 Ludgershall and Faberstown were in essence a single village, and in 1992 a boundary change brought Faberstown into Wiltshire from Hampshire.
