How Wood

How Wood railway station is in the village of How Wood, Hertfordshire, England. It is the fourth station on the Abbey Line, 4+1⁄2 miles (7.2 km) from Watford Junction. Like all the other stations on the branch (except Watford Junction), it is a simple unstaffed halt. It was opened by British Rail in October 1988 to coincide with the overhead electrification of the line.

Spielplatz (German for playground) is the longest-operating naturist resort in United Kingdom, and consists of 12 acres (4.9 ha) located in the village of Bricket Wood, in the English county of Hertfordshire. As of 2021, the resort consists of 65 houses.

Moor Mill Quarry, West is a 0.16-hectare (0.40-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in How Wood in Hertfordshire. The local planning authority is St Albans City and District Council. It was notified in 1992 as representing the former Moor Mill Quarry SSSI, which was lost to landfill operations. It is listed by the Geological Conservation Review.The pit shows a sequence of Pleistocene Anglian and pre-Anglian deposits. It displays an early blocking of the pre-Anglian Thames Valley, at a time when the River Thames followed a more northerly course, resulting in the formation of a lake. This was overrun by a second advance of ice during the Anglian glaciation around 450,000 years ago, which diverted the Thames to its present course and initiated Colne drainage in the area. The site is regarded by Natural England as of fundamental importance as the only one which demonstrates the diversion of the Thames from its pre-Anglian course.There is no access to the deep quarry, which is partly filled with water, but it can be viewed by crossing the railway line at How Wood station and turning south to follow the east side of the Abbey Line.

Chiswell Green is a village, to the south of St. Albans, in the parish of St Stephen and district of City of St Albans in Hertfordshire. It has a population of approximately 2,800. It is in the civil parish of St. Stephen. It is located on the North Orbital Road, close to Junction 21A of the M25, and is separated from St Albans by the A414. To the south east of Chiswell Green is Park Street, and to the south, Bricket Wood. There is one pub in Chiswell Green, The Three Hammers. There is one school in West Avenue: Killigrew Primary and Nursery School. This was formed by the amalgamation of two separate schools. Originally positioned on Old Watford Road around The Three Turnips public house, Chiswell Green was much extended between the wars and shortly afterwards. It now is a medium-sized suburb.

Park Street railway station serves the village of Park Street, Hertfordshire, England. It is the penultimate station on the Abbey Line. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Northwestern Railway.

Park Street is a small Hertfordshire village on the southern outskirts of, and around 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the city centre of St Albans in England; it is separated from the rest of the latter's contiguous built-up area by a buffer to the north. Park Street has a petrol station, several tyre and automotive service businesses and two food-serving public houses; it is of late and initially disparate medieval origin. The village is also home to the penultimate station on the Abbey Line from Watford Junction, which opened in 1858. Park Street is also a larger local government ward (the largest settlement of which is How Wood and which includes part of Bricket Wood). The area falls within the Metropolitan Green Belt. Residents are mainly employed in nearby cities; east of the street in Frogmore is a substantial business centre and light industrial estate.

The Hanstead Stud was a breeding farm in England for Arabian horses. It was active from 1928 to 1957, and its animals had a significant impact in many countries, "second only in importance to" Crabbet Arabian Stud. It was based at Hanstead Park, a country house estate near St Albans in Hertfordshire, not far from London.

Hanstead House or Hanstead Park is a country house estate in Hertfordshire, England. Hanstead is near Bricket Wood, about three miles from Radlett and five miles from St Albans, within the green belt around London. It forms part of the civil parish of St Stephen, Hertfordshire within St Albans District Council. The park has been a stud, a college, and a corporate training centre, and is now owned by a property development firm. The current building, though in the Georgian style, dates from 1925. The property was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Bricket Wood railway station is in the village of Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire, England, on the Abbey Line 31⁄4 miles (5 km) east of Watford Junction. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Northwestern Railway, and the services operate with a 4-car Class 319.

St Stephen is a civil parish in the St Albans City and District in Hertfordshire, England. It is located approximately 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of central London, straddling the M25 motorway and immediately adjacent to the southern boundary of St Albans. St Stephen is a partly urbanised parish with multiple centres of activity and open land that forms part of the Metropolitan Green Belt. The local council is St Stephen Parish Council. The parish covers Bricket Wood, Chiswell Green, Frogmore, Colney Street, How Wood and Park Street. It is an ancient parish, and sections of it were transferred to St Albans progressively up to 1935. At the 2011 census it had a population of 13,865.

The Abbey Line, also called the St Albans Abbey branch line, is a railway line from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey. The 6.5-mile (10.5 km) route passes through town and countryside in the county of Hertfordshire, just outside the boundaries of the Oyster Card and London fare zones. Its northern terminus in St Albans Abbey is located in the south of the city, around 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) away from the larger St Albans City railway station on the Midland Main Line. The Abbey line is a semi-rural line and, due to its single-track operation, service frequencies are limited. The service is sometimes referred to locally as the Abbey Flyer.

The Marlborough Science Academy is a secondary school and sixth form with Academy status, located in St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. It has a specialism in science. The school has approximately 1,200 students and 80 teachers. Marlborough School was originally known as St Julian's Secondary, split into two separate schools, an all-girls school, and an all-boys school. Spencer Hall (now called Da Vinci Hall) was the centre of the girls' school, and Churchill Hall (now called Pascal Hall) was the centre of the boys' school. New science laboratories opened in 2002 were named after former Headmaster Anthony Bartlett.Since the schools' opening in 1953, the site has displayed the grade II listed Barbara Hepworth sculpture Turning Forms.
