Elgin is an incorporated town in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. Some portions of the town are in adjacent Richland County, South Carolina. It is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of the center of Columbia, the state's capital, and is the center of one of the ten townships that make up Kershaw County. As of the 2010 census, the town's population was 1,311, and in 2018 the estimated population was 1,579. It is part of the Columbia, South Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Pontiac is an unincorporated community in Richland County, South Carolina, United States.Pontiac is the location of Pontiac Foods, a coffee, spice, rice and beans plant owned by The Kroger Company. Pontiac Foods has been in Pontiac for over 30 years and employs over 250 full-time associates.Spring Valley High School and Pontiac Elementary School are located in Pontiac.

The Ridgeway mine was a gold and silver open-pit mine near Ridgeway, South Carolina. In its eleven years of operation between 1988 and 1999, it produced 1,500,000 ounces of gold and 900,000 ounces of silver. The mine's two ore bodies are part of the gold-rich Carolina Slate Belt rock package that runs through the upstate Piedmont foothills. The operator of the mine, the Ridgeway Mining Company, is a subdivision of Kennecott Minerals. Kennecott is a subdivision of Rio Tinto which is one of the world's largest mining companies. The mine faced fierce opposition from the local community while applying for permits and licensing from government regulators. These neighbors created Gold Camouflage, a group organized to bring legal and procedural challenges against the mine. Gold Camouflage was unable to stop the mine from opening and eventually settled with the owners. After the mine was exhausted, Ridgeway began reclamation of the mine which continues to this day. The mine's waste rock piles were covered with clay and grass to create an artificial hill and water is filling the mine pits to create two artificial lakes. Mine management hopes that one of the lakes will eventually be usable by the public for recreation.

Village at Sandhill is a 300-acre (1.2 km2) lifestyle center located in the northeast area of Columbia, South Carolina. It is located halfway between Interstate 20 and Interstate 77 on Clemson Road at the intersection of Two Notch Road. It competes with Columbiana Centre and Columbia Place. It is the largest retail center in Columbia. Village at Sandhill was developed by Kahn Development Company. It originally opened in late 2004 and is still currently under construction. When it opened, its first tenants were *PLEX Indoor Sports, Rhodes Furniture, World Market and Super Bi-Lo. The open-air center offers a mix of nationally and locally owned merchants and restaurants including Starbucks and Edible Arrangements, as well as numerous national and regional banks including Wells Fargo, Regions Bank, First Citizens Bank, BB&T, and Grow Financial. The national anchors include JCPenney, which opened in 2005, The Home Depot, which opened in 2006, Belk, which opened in 2007, Sam's Club, which opened in 2016, and Burlington Coat Factory, which opened in 2018. In 2020 following the bankruptcy of Bi-Lo, this location was sold to Lowes Foods. Village at Sandhill's latest expansion phase also includes the Promenade at Sandhill, a luxury condominium development located above retail shops, a 186-unit Discovery Village at Sandhill senior-living community and a 240-unit Nexus at Sandhill Apartments.

WNOK (104.7 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Columbia, South Carolina, serving the Columbia metropolitan area and the Midlands of South Carolina. It broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) radio format and it's owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The current slogan is "The Midlands' #1 Hit Music Station." Its radio studios are on Greystone Boulevard in Columbia, off Interstate 126, near the Riverbanks Zoo.WNOK has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 90,000 watts. The transmitter is in the northeast section of Columbia, off Hardscrabble Road at Lee Road. WNOK is "short-spaced" with WKQC in Charlotte, also broadcasting on 104.7 MHz. The two stations are only about 90 miles apart with WKQC running an ERP of 96,000 watts. FCC rules would normally require two co-channel Class C-1 FM stations to be 152 miles apart. Both stations use directional antennas to limit co-channel interference. The Chester and Lancaster areas of South Carolina have trouble receiving a clear signal from either station.

Sandfield Cemetery, also known as Sandfield Baptist Cemetery, is a historic Baptist cemetery founded before 1772, located in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. It is currently maintained by the Sandy Level Baptist Church in Blythewood, and this cemetery site has a historical marker.

Spring Valley High School is located in unincorporated Northeast Columbia, South Carolina, United States, and is operated by Richland County School District Two. Opened in the fall of 1970, it was for a long time the sole high school operating in Richland School District Two, replacing Dentsville High School.

Fort Jackson National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located northeast of Columbia, South Carolina. It encompasses 585 acres (237 ha) acquired from Fort Jackson, a United States Army Basic Training facility, and was dedicated on October 26, 2008.

WLTX (channel 19) is a television station in Columbia, South Carolina, United States, affiliated with CBS. Owned by Tegna Inc., the station maintains studios on Garners Ferry Road (US 76–378) in southeastern Columbia, and its transmitter is located on Screaming Eagle Road (southeast of I-20) in rural northeast Richland County. WLTX is Columbia's oldest continuously operating television station, going on the air in September 1953 as WNOK-TV on ultra high frequency (UHF) channel 67. Built by Columbia radio station WNOK (1230 AM), it struggled in its first years on air as Columbia's lone very high frequency station, WIS (channel 10), used that position to become the dominant TV station in central South Carolina. The station endured in the shadow of its much larger competitor and moved to the lower channel 19 in 1961. The WNOK stations were sold to Julius Curtis Lewis Jr. in 1977; the TV station was given its present call letters, WLTX. For most of its first four decades on the air, the station was a distant runner-up to WIS. For much of that time, it only offered one daily newscast, even after a substantial power increase in 1985. However, in the final years of Lewis ownership and after WLTX's purchase by Gannett in 1998, the news department was significantly expanded in facilities, personnel, and newscasts offered. As a result, in the last quarter-century, the station has become a more substantial challenger to the once-dominant WIS and has even overtaken it on occasion.

WMHK (89.7 FM) is a non-commercial Christian radio station in Columbia, South Carolina. It is owned and operated by the Educational Media Foundation. Its programming is Contemporary Christian music programmed from K-LOVE studios in Rocklin, California. WMHK is one of South Carolina's most powerful stations. It provides at least grade B coverage to much of the South Carolina portions of the Charlotte and Augusta areas, and can be heard clearly as far east as Florence and as far west as Union.

George P. Hoffman House is a historic home located at Blythewood, Richland County, South Carolina. It was built about 1855, and is a one-story, braced-frame Greek Revival style residence. The house consists of a central, five-bay block, flanked by three-bay wings. It features a pedimented porch that spans the three central bays of the façade. Today it serves as the Town Hall for Blythewood. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Sesquicentennial State Park is a state park in the Sandhills region of South Carolina. Known to locals as Sesqui,(), the park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression and was donated to the City of Columbia by the Sesquicentennial Commission in 1937. The park contains 1,419 acres (5.74 km2) and is approximately 12 miles (19 km) from downtown Columbia, South Carolina. This park has three picnic shelters, four picnic pads, and 84 campsites that vary in amenities & sizes. The park provides rental fishing boats, paddle boats, standup paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, fishing access to the 30-acre (12 ha) park lake, and four trails providing over 12 miles (19 km) of recreational access. The Sandhills Trail is an ADA-accessible two-mile (3.2 km) loop around the park lake. The bike trail is 6.5 miles (10.5 km) of moderate sandy terrain with several changes in elevation. Sesqui is the only South Carolina State Park that offers a full-scale splash pad and a membership-only dog park that allows dogs to run off-leash.
