Oakland is a village in Burrillville, Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. It was developed in the 19th century at the site of a stone mill (now surviving only in fragmentary ruins) near the confluence of the Chepachet and Clear Rivers. It is one of the few remaining stone mills in this state. Most of the village is included in the Oakland Historic District, a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the housing in the village was originally built to house mill workers, although there are several more elaborate houses built for mill executives.Students living in Oakland attend Burrillville Middle and High School. Oakland is a small, yet beautiful community hidden in the top left corner of Rhode Island. Oakland offers many woodland areas and rivers. The small town relies on volunteer firefighters. Each day a town whistle sounds from the Oakland-Mapleville Fire Department at five-o'clock pm, as well as each time fire personnel is in need. Many historic mills are scattered throughout the town, as well as mill-style neighborhoods.

The Esten–Bowen House is a historic house at 299 Ironmine Road in Burrillville, Rhode Island. The 1+1⁄2-story timber frame Cape style house was built c. 1790 by John Esten, a major landowner in eastern Burrillville in the second half of the 18th century. The main block is five bays wide and two deep, with a massive central chimney. A kitchen ell to the right of the main block appears to be an early addition. The house was held in the Esten family until 1879, by which time its surrounding property had been reduced to just 30 acres (12 ha). This property was acquired by Esther Bowen in 1941 and the house was rehabilitated, with modest Colonial Revival alterations. The property includes a 19th-century shed, and foundational remnants of a blacksmithy and barn.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Slatersville Reservoir is a large lake in the village of Slatersville in the town of North Smithfield in Providence County, Rhode Island. The Slatersville Reservoir was created for use by the nearby Slater family's textile mills when a "larger dam, known as the Middle Dam, was built in 1849. It is 300 ft (91 m) long, and creates a twenty-foot (6.1 m) drop. Behind the dam is the 170 acres (69 ha) Lower Slatersville Reservoir. The smaller dam was built later to increase the water power. The sluice gate here controlled the amount of water flowing into the raceway that powered the Slatersville Mill." The two dams, which now create waterfalls, can be seen from the North Smithfield Public Library.

Graniteville is a village located within the town of Johnston, Rhode Island. During the Revolutionary War, Graniteville was the site of Rhode Island's only gunpowder mill which was funded by the Rhode Island General Assembly and run by James Goff until it exploded in 1779, killing Goff and destroying the mill. Graniteville was home to a large granite quarry in the 1800s, and the columns for the Providence Arcade, the first indoor shopping mall in America, were quarried in the village in 1822. In the nineteenth century, the village was located on the Providence and Springfield Railroad. Until 1843–1846, the village was home to a Baptist church that was affiliated with the Six Principle Baptists. In 1943 a World War II memorial was dedicated in the village, and every year a well-attended memorial service is held at the Graniteville Baptist Church honoring the area's veterans.

Burrillville is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 16,158 at the 2020 census. It was incorporated as an independent municipality on November 17, 1806 when the Rhode Island General Assembly authorized the residents of then North Glocester to elect its own officers. The town was named for 19th century United States senator James Burrill, Jr. who was then the Rhode Island Attorney General.
