Grovedale College

Grovedale was a railway station on the outskirts of Geelong, located on the Warrnambool railway line in Victoria, Australia. Located near the current Torquay Road (Surfcoast Highway) level crossing, the station opened in 1876 as Germantown and was renamed Grovedale in February 1916.

Waurn Ponds railway station is located on the Warrnambool line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the southern Geelong suburb of Waurn Ponds, and it opened on 12 October 2014.

Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre is a major regional shopping centre servicing the southern suburbs of the city of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It is located on the corner of Colac and Pioneer Roads in the suburb of Grovedale. The shopping centre features around 140 stores, including Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Target, Amart Sports, Reading Cinemas and First Choice Liquor. Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre originally opened in 1985 as Town & Country Shopping World, with a Woolworths supermarket and 12 speciality stores.The shopping centre's first redevelopment in 1996 saw the shopping centre grow in size to include Target. 2000 saw the opening of Reading Cinemas, and then the opening of Coles supermarket followed in 2002. Following this redevelopment in 2002, the Centre was officially renamed Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre this redevelopment was completed by Stephanie Boyd and Chace Rankin.The shopping centre was again redeveloped in 2007 with an expanded Target and 36 new specialty stores. A further two-stage redevelopment in 2014 saw Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre double in size to 48,000 sq/m. The first stage, which opened in May 2014, saw new Kmart and Coles megastores and a food court, whilst stage 2 saw another 40 speciality stores open in August 2014.

The Geelong Baseball Centre or Geelong Baseball Park is home to Geelong Baseball Club in Geelong, Victoria during summer and the Guild Allstars Baseball Club and East Belmont Saints Baseball Club during the winter season. In total the Geelong Baseball Centre has four playing fields, with the main diamond being one of the few international standard baseball ballparks in Australia. Features include lighting up to international standard, electronic scoreboard and associated infrastructure in the form of elevated commentary box, outfield sightboards, bullpen tunnels, meeting and dining areas and an indoor training facility. The main stadium is secured and there is ample car parking space. It was built in 2002 to coincide with the World Masters Games and hosted baseball successfully. It has also hosted the Victorian Masters Games, international friendly matches, Claxton Shield 2009 games, 2009 World Masters Games, the 2010 Australian Provincial Championships and 2012 & 2013 U16/U18 National Youth Championships. 2020 U16/U18 National Youth Championships. The complex has been used as a pre-season training camp for the Japanese Pacific League team the Chiba Lotte Marines and Doosan Bears from the Korean KBO league.

Geelong Airport (IATA: GEX, ICAO: YGLG) was a small airfield specifically for light aircraft located in Mount Duneed, Victoria, Australia. It was primarily used for scenic flights and private aircraft, and was located in the local government area of the City of Greater Geelong. The airport contained two gravel/tarmac runways: north/south and east/west. Though commercial airlines had attempted to fly services to Geelong in the past, they chose to use the more developed airport at Avalon, located to the north side of Melbourne. Operations from Avalon also proved to be unsuccessful. Other airports in the area are at Barwon Heads (ICAO: YBRS), the Torquay Airport and the Tiger Moth World at 325 Blackgate Rd. The site is also used to record wind and weather measurements for the area. Geelong airport was sold to property developers to allow for the expansion of the urban sprawl of Geelong. The airport closed on 31 December 2011.Since 2011 closure and later redevelopment, only the former office building and a hangar remained. While the hangar has been retained for future use, the office building, although repainted, was allowed to decay and became a target for vandalism. On 10 September 2022, a suspicious fire damaged the office building beyond repair. It was demolished a month later.

Parkes College is a college of the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University. It was developed from 2011 and opened in 2014 as part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).Parkes College offers students studio apartments to rent, featuring private bedrooms, kitchenettes, and bathrooms, as well as shared study rooms.

Barton College is a residential college located at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University. Established in 1989, the college is a residence made up of the Dawson, Evatt, and Hammond buildings. Initially, the college had staff and acted as a community (competing in sporting events, purchasing matching rugby tops). Additionally, each year the 'Boar of the Year' was awarded until 2003. The college also published an annual BarTalk until 1994, when the Bartonian was published for one year.Previously, the Barton Common Room was filled with plaques, photos and awards attributed to the college. However, the re-painting of the building and lack of College activities led to the building featuring only a single Boar shield and the 'Boar of the Year' plaque. Services also include a pool table, air hockey table, and four tennis courts. In 2017, for the annual Deakin Residence Football matches and college merchandise Barton College became known as the 'Barton Bulls'.

Marshall railway station is located on the Warrnambool line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the southern Geelong suburb of Marshall, and opened on 26 April 2005.A previous station on the site, called Connewarre, opened on 14 July 1879, and was renamed Marshall on 1 April 1907. That station was closed to passengers on 14 October 1957, and the platform had been removed by 22 July 1958. The station was closed to all traffic on 17 February 1964.During the 2002 Victorian state election, the State Government announced that a new station would be provided in the vicinity to serve the rapidly expanding southernmost suburbs of Geelong. During the planning stages, the station was named Grovedale. In December 2003, it was announced that the new station would be built adjacent to the Marshalltown Road level crossing, on the site of the former Marshall station. Following a naming competition, it was revealed in September 2004 that the new station would be called Marshall.The new station opened on 26 April 2005, and was initially served by Warrnambool line trains only. From September 2005, Geelong line services were extended from South Geelong, and Marshall became the terminus for most Geelong-line trains. Following its opening in October 2014, Waurn Ponds station became the terminus for the majority of Geelong line services.As part of the Regional Rail Revival project, a new station building will be constructed, incorporating an upgraded waiting room and forecourt, and a second platform will be provided, with the platforms to be connected by a pedestrian overpass. There will also be more car parking spaces, an upgraded bus interchange, and improvements to lighting and CCTV coverage. As part of the works, the line between Waurn Ponds and South Geelong will be duplicated, with the exception of the two-kilometre section of track across the Barwon River flood plain. The former Geelong Racecourse station was located between Marshall and South Geelong.

Alfred Deakin College (formerly Deakin College) is a residential college at the Waurn Ponds campus of Deakin University. The first of the Deakin colleges, it came to be in 1973 when the Gordon Institute Council (one of the councils responsible for the development of the University) formed a committee to oversee the construction of the original two unit blocks; the Collins and Laird units. Between 1977 and 1985, the Wookey, Boyd, and Gordon Units (respectively) were constructed in the Deakin College. The Percy Baxter Common Room (opened in 1982) facilitates the college, named after Percy Baxter Charitable Trust, whom financed the building.In 2017, the college became officially known as Alfred Deakin College rather than Deakin College, and the Evatt Units, formerly of the Barton College, joined the college.

Marcus Oldham College is an agricultural, equine and farm management tertiary education institution located in Geelong, Victoria and is the only private agricultural college operating in Australia. Founded in 1962, the institution attracts enrolments from domestic and international students. At the undergraduate level, the school offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Business in Farm Management, Bachelor of Business in Agribusiness, Associate Degree of Agribusiness, Associate Degree of Farm Business Management, Diploma of Agribusiness, and Diploma of Equine Management. The postgraduate program consists of a Masters, Graduate Certificate and a Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness.In May 2008, the college opened the Centre for the Study of Rural Australia on its campus. The Centre focuses on the intersection of agriculture and rural communities and aims to foster sustainable practices through community involvement.

Deakin University's School of Medicine is based at the Waurn Ponds campus in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. It offers a four-year, graduate-entry, Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The medical degree is a 4 year course, with 2 years of pre-clinical education at the University campus in Waurn Ponds, and then 2 years clinical education and experience in one of 5 clinical schools. The School has also developed other new undergraduate and postgraduate programs, namely Optometry, Medical Imaging, Agricultural Health and Medicine, Units in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Health Science Majors, Bachelor of Health and Medical Science Honours, and a Masters in Clinical Leadership.
