This is due to the mild climate and good irrigation coming from the Xuquer river, which passes through the city. Every September the Festivity of “la Mare de Déu de la Salut” is celebrated, declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. The traditional Valencian dance called Muixeranga is originally a part of the festivity.

The Battle of Alzira took place in 1521, as viceroy Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, 1st Count of Melito, attempted to subjugate Alzira and end the Revolt of the Brotherhoods. In this battle, Alzira was supported by the Agermanado troops of Xàtiva and resisted the attacks for a year, until 9 December 1522, when the troops of the Viceroy entered the city.

The Battle of Lauron (also known as the Battle of Lauro, not to be confused for the Battle of Lauro of 45 BC) was fought in 76 BC by a rebel force under the command of the renegade Roman general Quintus Sertorius and an army of Roman Republic under the command of the Roman general Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (better known as Pompey). The battle was part of the Sertorian War and ended in victory for Sertorius and his rebels. The battle was recorded in detail by Frontinus in his Stratagems and by Plutarch in his Lives of Sertorius and Pompey.

The Monastery of Santa Maria de la Murta is a former monastery of the order of the Hieronymites located in the Valley of La Murta in Alzira (Valencia), Spain.Throughout its history was an important emporium of culture and spirituality and centre of pilgrimage of the royalty, the aristocracy and influential religious characters. It was acquired by the City Hall of Alzira in 1989, and from 1995, is in recovery and restoration both the convent and its environment of La Murta Valley.

Sollana is a municipality in the comarca of Ribera Baixa in the Valencian Community, Spain. The municipality includes a second village: El Romaní. Situated on the floodplain of the Júcar River, the Sollana region is where rice was first grown in Spain 1,200 years ago, and is also the heartland of the famous Spanish dish paella. The economy of the area is still based mainly on agriculture: rice, oranges and livestock. In the early Middle Ages, Sollana was a small Visigothic settlement. Later, records from the al-Andalus period name it Sulyanah, chief village of a region including the hamlets of Romaní, Alcahecia and Trullás. After the Reconquista in the thirteenth century, James I of Aragon gave it to his vassal Ximén d'Urrea, and it eventually ended up part of the Dukedom of Híjar. In January 1932, during the Second Spanish Republic, anarchists briefly declared a Soviet Republic of Sollana.The patron saint of Sollana is Mary Magdalene. She is celebrated annually in the summer festivities, which begin on her feast day, July 22, and continue through August 14, when the city council throws a "night of the paellas" in the city centre, and end in late August with a traditional bullring.
