Middlewich

Middlewich Urban District is a former Urban District in Cheshire, based in the town of Middlewich. It was created in 1894 and abolished in 1974 when it was incorporated into the Borough of Congleton, which was itself abolished in 2009. The archives are with Cheshire Archives and Local Studies.

Middlewich Town Hall, also known as Victoria Buildings, is a municipal structure in Lewin Street, Middlewich, Cheshire, England. The building, which was originally commissioned as a technical school and public library, is now the meeting place of Middlewich Town Council.

The First Battle of Middlewich took place on 13 March 1643, during the First English Civil War, and was fought between the Parliamentarians, under Sir William Brereton, and the Royalist supporters of King Charles I of England, under Sir Thomas Aston.

St. Michael and All Angels is the parish church for the town of Middlewich in Cheshire, England. It stands at the junction of the A54 and A533 roads. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester and the deanery of Middlewich. Its benefice is combined with that of St John, Byley. In 1947 the architectural historian Raymond Richards described the church as "the one building, in a depressing town, which is mellow and dignified".

Middlewich railway station served the Cheshire, England, salt-producing town of Middlewich between 1868 and 1960. It lay on a branch line from Sandbach to Northwich. The Mid Cheshire Rail Users' Association is campaigning for the reopening of the line to passenger traffic, and the construction of a new station at Middlewich. The station stood on the branch line that was primarily built to serve the industries between Sandbach and Northwich. Most revenue came from the Cheshire salt mines before its transport switched to road haulage. Chemical factories also used the branch with sidings serving the bigger factories. Middlewich station had a sizeable goods depot for freight and parcels office for public use. With the withdrawal of passenger services, the Middlewich branch continues to be used by freight trains and for occasional train diversions.

The Wardle Canal is the shortest canal in the UK, at 154 feet (47 m). The canal, in Middlewich, Cheshire, connects the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, terminating with a single lock known as Wardle Lock. It was built in 1829 so that the navigation authority of the Trent and Mersey Canal could maintain control over the junction.

Middlewich High School is a co-educational secondary school located in Middlewich, Cheshire, England.It is a school for 11- to 16-year-olds, and had 708 pupils on roll as of the last OFSTED report, less than the average comprehensive. In its last OFSTED report, it achieved Good. 98.6% of pupils are of white British origin and no pupils take English as an additional language. 10.7% of pupils have Special Educational Needs (SEN). In 2006 Middlewich High School celebrated its centenary. In 2007 it achieved its best GCSE results: 71% at A* - C. The school is one of the partner high schools of Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College, and sends around 30% of its Year 11 leavers there every September. Previously a community school administered by Cheshire East Council, in February 2022 Middlewich High School converted to academy status. It is now sponsored by The Sir John Brunner Foundation.

Middlewich Town Football Club is a football club based in the Cheshire town of Middlewich. They currently play in the Cheshire League Premier Division.

Middlewich Manor (also called the Manor House, Middlewich) is a former manor house in Middlewich, Cheshire, England. It was originally constructed in brick in about 1800, and it was encased in ashlar in about 1840, when the porch was also built The bay windows were added in the 1870s. As of 2011, it is a residential care home. The house is constructed in yellow ashlar and is in two storeys. On its entrance front is a porch supported by four fluted Ionic columns. Along the top of the porch is a frieze and a cornice. On each side of the porch are two-storey canted bay windows. Between the stories is a band of Greek keys. A parapet runs along the top of the house, behind which is a low-pitched roof. On the garden front there are sash windows and a canted two-storey bay window to the right, and a wing with a stone oriel window and a pyramidal slated roof to the left. There is more decoration with bands of Greek keys on this front. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Ravenscroft Hall is a country house standing to the east of the B5309 road (King Street) about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north of Middlewich, Cheshire, England. The house was built in 1837 for William T. Buchanan, replacing a former Jacobean house. It was extended, possibly in 1852 when the house was bought by the Moss family, and again in 1877. The house has since been divided into two dwellings. It is constructed in roughcast and yellow brick, with stone dressings and slate roofs. The house is in two storeys, with a main front of five bays, and a five-bay extension to the northeast. The garden front also has five bays. The house has an Ionic porch, and an Italianate belvedere. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

The River Wheelock is a small river in Cheshire in north west England. It drains water from the area between Sandbach and Crewe, and joins the River Dane at Middlewich (grid reference SJ693669), and then the combined river flows into the River Weaver in Northwich. Alternative names for the river have were recorded in 1619 as Sutton Watter, Sutton Brooke, and Lawton Brooke.Early recorded variations of the name Wheelock have included Quelok, Qwelok, Whelok, Whelocke, with later forms using Wheelock Watter and Wheelock Brooke. The name is said to mean "winding river" and it is reported to have based on the Old Welsh word chwylog, the chwyl part of which means "a turn, a rotation, a course", with an adjective suffix of og. The river has given its name to the large village of Wheelock.

Cledford Bridge Halt railway station was located in Middlewich, Cheshire, England. The station was opened by the London and North Western Railway on 2 January 1911, the station closed on 2 March 1942. The platform was situated on an embankment on the south side of Cledford Lane over-bridge and was accessed by steps from the lane.
