Monkseaton

Monkseaton is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the suburb of Monkseaton, North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 11 August 1980, following the opening of the first phase of the network, between Haymarket and Tynemouth via Four Lane Ends.

Whitley Bay Ice Rink is an ice rink located in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, England and is the home of the Whitley Warriors ice hockey team. An additional team played out of the ice rink, the Newcastle Vipers, who are now disbanded. It is one of two permanent public ice rinks in the north east of England. A ten-pin bowling centre in the area upstairs which was added in the 1960s was closed in 2007. This area (as of 2019) is now home to a newly refurbished entertainment suite and conference facility.

Whitley Bay Football Club (also known as The Bay, or The Seahorses) are an English football club based in Whitley Bay, England. The present Whitley Bay Football Club was formed in 1950 and was known as Whitley Bay Athletic. Whitley Bay play their home matches at Hillheads Park, which is adjacent to the Whitley Bay ice rink and has a maximum capacity of 4,500. The club spent all of the 1990s playing in the Northern Premier League; since then, the club suffered following financial problems and they were relegated in 2000. They now play in the Northern League Division One.

The Playhouse, Whitley Bay is a state of the art, 630 seater auditorium in the coastal resort of Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. Having undergone a major and completed refurbishment by North Tyneside Council in 2009, the contemporary theatre has a glass foyer, front of house facilities, box office and bar facilities. In addition it also features a redesigned auditorium, new company room and chorus rooms. The transformation of the venue, situated on Marine Avenue, was a key part of North Tyneside Council's £64million regeneration programme for Whitley Bay. It has become an integral part of the local community programme, regularly playing host to productions from local artistic and drama groups. The Playhouse is managed by SMG, who locally own and manage Newcastle's 11,000+ seater Metro Radio Arena and 1,100 seater Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre.A specially-commissioned installation by artist Rolf Wojciechowski, is displayed in the North corridor of the theatre to mark the re-opening of the Playhouse Whitley Bay in 2009. A time capsule in the form of a wooden box has been made by longtime theatre supporter Rid Stokoe, and filled with a collection of memorabilia from its proud past.

St Paul's Church is the parish church of Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, United Kingdom.The church was founded in 1864. The church's official title is St Paul's Church, Cullercoats but it is located near the centre of the town rather than the suburb of Cullercoats.

Whitley Lodge is an area of Whitley Bay, in Tyne and Wear in North East England. It is located to the north of the town, and is a residential suburb built in the 1950s. It consists of a housing estate, the Whitley Lodge Shopping Centre (classified as a District Centre in planning terms) and Whitley Lodge First School. The school is home to the Whitley Lodge Baptist Church which was established in 2007.At the centre of Whitley Lodge is its shopping centre, which includes a snooker club, post office, estate agency, newsagent, soft play area, cafe, barber shop, fitness centre, Italian restaurant (Davanti), the Kittiwake pub, Contour Blinds (window blind, shutter, awning and curtain specialists) and a Tesco Express. The centre is also home to various takeaway establishments, including Tandoori Take Away (Indian takeaway), New Claremont (Chinese takeaway), Dimitri Takeaway, and Pantrini's (a fish-and-chip shop). A William Hill betting shop opened in October 2008.

The Spanish City is a dining and leisure centre in Whitley Bay, a seaside town in North Tyneside, Tyne & Wear, England. Erected as a smaller version of Blackpool's Pleasure Beach, it opened in 1910 as a concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and tearoom. A ballroom was added in 1920 and later a permanent funfair.Located near the seafront, the Spanish City has a 180 ft-long (54.8 m) Renaissance-style frontage and became known for its distinctive dome, now a Grade II listed building. There are towers on either side of the entrance, each of which carries a half-life-size female bacchanalian figure in copper, one holding cymbals, the other a tambourine. The building's architects were Robert Burns Dick, Charles T. Marshall and James Cackett.The band Dire Straits mentioned the Spanish City in their 1980 single, "Tunnel of Love", which from then on was played every morning when it opened. By the late 1990s the building had fallen into disrepair, and in the early 2000s it was closed to the public. A regeneration project was announced in 2011. The building reopened as a dining and leisure centre at the end of July 2018.

Monkseaton High School is a mixed, comprehensive school situated in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, England for 13- to 18-year-olds. There are 465 students on roll, over 150 of whom are in the sixth form. The school has initiated or led a number of local and national initiatives aimed at raising standards and promoting LGBT equality. Monkseaton High School is noted for its innovations in degree study in schools and primary modern languages.Originally based on a dRMM design for the ideal school, the design of the school building has evolved into a building which is of a revolutionary design in terms of other secondary education buildings. The design, beyond the formal teaching spaces, incorporates a number of learning areas for students to study independent of teachers including computing. The light, airy feeling created throughout the school encourages 'open' learning and is a move away from traditional, 'institutional' school design. The ellipse shape of the school is very efficient in terms of space and land usage. It is aerodynamic and due to its position, reduces seasonal heating and cooling impact. On the exterior Devereux Architects, the architectural practice behind the Exemplar school, has strategically installed solar panels to provide tempered hot water. The school also benefits from natural ventilation, known as E-stack, which controls and maintains a temperate climate within the building. External shades control the impact of the sun on the building and spaces within. The project was led by Devereux Architects and involved the services of Parsons Brinckerhoff, Shepherd Construction Ltd and Hacel.More recently in 2019 Monkseaton High School, under the leadership of head Jo Suddes, has found the school to be grade 2 'Good', whereas it was previously grade 1 'Outstanding'. The school was previously shortlisted for the 'Secondary School of the Year' award within the 2016 TES Awards.

Whitley Bay is a seaside town in the county of Tyne and Wear, North East England.
