St Paul's Church, Whitley Bay

Whitley Bay is a seaside town in the county of Tyne and Wear, North East England. Historically in Northumberland, it has been administered as part of the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside since 1974 and forms part of the wider Tyneside located around 10 miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne. The former village of Monkseaton is part of the town.

The Playhouse, Whitley Bay is a state of the art, 630 seater auditorium in the coastal resort of Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. Having undergone a major and completed refurbishment by North Tyneside Council in 2009, the contemporary theatre has a glass foyer, front of house facilities, box office and bar facilities. In addition it also features a redesigned auditorium, new company room and chorus rooms. The transformation of the venue, situated on Marine Avenue, was a key part of North Tyneside Council's £64million regeneration programme for Whitley Bay. It has become an integral part of the local community programme, regularly playing host to productions from local artistic and drama groups. The Playhouse is managed by SMG, who locally own and manage Newcastle's 11,000+ seater Metro Radio Arena and 1,100 seater Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre.A specially-commissioned installation by artist Rolf Wojciechowski, is displayed in the North corridor of the theatre to mark the re-opening of the Playhouse Whitley Bay in 2009. A time capsule in the form of a wooden box has been made by longtime theatre supporter Rid Stokoe, and filled with a collection of memorabilia from its proud past.

The Spanish City is a dining and leisure centre in Whitley Bay, a seaside town in North Tyneside, Tyne & Wear, England. Erected as a smaller version of Blackpool's Pleasure Beach, it opened in 1910 as a concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and tearoom. A ballroom was added in 1920 and later a permanent funfair.Located near the seafront, the Spanish City has a 180 ft-long (54.8 m) Renaissance-style frontage and became known for its distinctive dome, now a Grade II listed building. There are towers on either side of the entrance, each of which carries a half-life-size female bacchanalian figure in copper, one holding cymbals, the other a tambourine. The building's architects were Robert Burns Dick, Charles T. Marshall and James Cackett.The band Dire Straits mentioned the Spanish City in their 1980 single, "Tunnel of Love", which from then on was played every morning when it opened. By the late 1990s the building had fallen into disrepair, and in the early 2000s it was closed to the public. A regeneration project was announced in 2011. The building reopened as a dining and leisure centre at the end of July 2018.

Whitley Bay Pier was an unrealised pleasure pier to be built at Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, on the north-east coast of England. Substantial proposals for such a pier were first made in 1908; next in 1935-39 and lastly in 1966–72. Although Orders and Local Acts of Parliament permitting the development were repeatedly passed, construction of the various schemes never started.

Whitley Bay Ice Rink is an ice rink located in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, England and is the home of the Whitley Warriors ice hockey team. An additional team played out of the ice rink, the Newcastle Vipers, who are now disbanded. It is one of two permanent public ice rinks in the north east of England. A ten-pin bowling centre in the area upstairs which was added in the 1960s was closed in 2007. This area (as of 2019) is now home to a newly refurbished entertainment suite and conference facility.

Whitley Bay Football Club (also known as The Bay, or The Seahorses) are an English football club based in Whitley Bay, England. The present Whitley Bay Football Club was formed in 1950 and was known as Whitley Bay Athletic. Whitley Bay play their home matches at Hillheads Park, which is adjacent to the Whitley Bay ice rink and has a maximum capacity of 4,500. The club spent all of the 1990s playing in the Northern Premier League; since then, the club suffered following financial problems and they were relegated in 2000. They now play in the Northern League Division One.

Monkseaton is an area of Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, in the North East of England. Historically in Northumberland, it is in the north-east of the borough, 3⁄4 mile (1.2 kilometres) from the North Sea coast and 1+1⁄2 mi (2.5 km) north of the River Tyne at North Shields. One mile (1.5 kilometres) to the north of Monkseaton, the extensive built-up areas of North Tyneside change abruptly into green belt stretching north into south-east Northumberland. It is at an elevation of 130 feet (40 m) above sea-level.

Cullercoats is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the suburbs of Cullercoats and Marden, North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 11 August 1980, following the opening of the first phase of the network, between Haymarket and Tynemouth via Four Lane Ends.

Marden is an urban area between the towns of North Shields and Cullercoats in Tyne & Wear. It consists of a housing estate built in the 20th century. St Hilda's Church (Church of England) is in Marden, and has existed since 1955, moving to its current site in 1966. The area has a secondary school, Marden High School on Hartington Road.

Marden High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Cullercoats, Tyne and Wear, England. The Marden City Learning Centre, opened 15 July 2003, is situated on the grounds in front of the school. In 2015 the school began building a new school building through the Priority Schools Building Programme. This was completed in 2016. The older building was demolished and replaced with a car park and field. This work was fully completed in 2017.
