Kinglake National Park

Disappointment Reference Area is a scientific reference area within the Wallaby Creek section of Kinglake National Park. It is located in the Central Highlands of the Victoria, Australia, 50 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. The Disappointment Reference Area, and the nearby Stony Creek and Joey Creek Reference Areas, are assigned the IUCN Category Ia (Strict Nature Reserve) and are managed mainly for scientific purposes It is named after Mount Disappointment, which is on the north-western boundary of the area.

Mount Disappointment is an 800-metre (2,600 ft) mountain located on the southern end of the Great Dividing Range, 9.5 kilometres (5.9 mi) north of Whittlesea and 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. It was named by explorers Hume and Hovell in 1824, and is now a popular hiking spot. Mount Disappointment is the main water source of the Yan Yean Reservoir, which is in turn one of the major water supply reserves of Melbourne.

Pheasant Creek is a locality in Victoria to the east of Kinglake West and to the west of Kinglake Central. Named after the creek that passes through the north of the town, Pheasant Creek is a largely residential area with moderately sized bush blocks connecting pine plantations to the north with the Kinglake National Park to the south. Pheasant Creek also contains a small industrial estate hosting a variety of small businesses, and a small commercial area consisting of a General Store, Bakery and Gym.

Whittlesea Secondary College is located in the township of Whittlesea, Victoria, Australia. It is set on the grounds of the former Whittlesea Technical High School, a link maintained today in the school's array of subjects including science, automotive repair, woodworking, metalworking, sewing and home economics. The school recently opened its new sports and performance center.

Clonbinane is a locality in the Australian state of Victoria. It is located 55 kilometres (34 mi) north of the state capital city, Melbourne. Geographically, it lies east of the Hume Freeway but now lacks a distinctive township precinct. According to Crown Land records of 1856, the pastoral region was part of the Western Port District. At the 2021 census, Clonbinane had a population of 347.The name Clonbinane suggests a marriage of two surnames, Clon and Binane. The Binane part may have found its origins in Welsh, Irish or Scottish clans surnames, deriving from the Latin "Benedictus". It is suggested that the Binane part of the name came from the galectisation of Benedictus and that the Clon part may have its origins in early Scottish history. It is not clear how the name came about as a mention in the Crown Land Leases of 1848.

Whittlesea was the original terminus station on the Whittlesea line, located in Victoria, Australia. It opened in 1889, operating until the closure of the line in 1959.

Funfields is a 15.7-hectare (39-acre) theme park located in the suburban fringe town of Whittlesea, approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Melbourne, Australia. Opened in 1985, originally as the Alpine Toboggan Park, it has over the years evolved into a multifaceted theme park encompassing a wide variety of wet and dry attractions, and is one of four major theme parks in Victoria. Due to Melbourne's climate and the water related nature of several of its attractions, the park closes during the colder winter months. Its newest attractions have been the Supanova water slide in December 2022, a heated outdoor wave pool, named Volcano Beach, in December 2018, the Gravity Wave water slide, and the Voodoo pendulum ride, both of which opened in October 2017.

Strathewen is a town in Victoria, Australia, 45 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Strathewen recorded a population of 198 at the 2021 census. Strathewen is located near the Kinglake National Park. It is an apple and pear producing area and is home to small local vineyards and wineries. Strathewen was badly damaged in the Black Saturday bushfires. Peg Fraser has written an excellent book called, "Black Saturday"...Not the end of the story. Published by Monash University Publishing, it is a harrowing account of the dreadful Saturday, February 7th, 2009 fires, which affected most of the State. Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At the time of its completion in 1857 it was the largest artificial reservoir in the world. It is 30 kilometres (19 mi) north of the city within the eponymous locality of Yan Yean, and is built on the Plenty River, a tributary of the Yarra River. An embankment 9.5 metres (31 ft) high holds back 30,000 ML (1.1 billion cu ft) of water. The reservoir is managed by Melbourne Water as part of the water supply system for Melbourne.
