The Electoral district of Whittlesea was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria.

Whittlesea is a town in Victoria, Australia, 40 kilometres (25 mi) north-east from Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Whittlesea recorded a population of 6,117 at the 2021 census.

Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At the time of its completion in 1857 it was the largest artificial reservoir in the world. It is 30 kilometres (19 mi) north of the city within the eponymous locality of Yan Yean, and is built on the Plenty River, a tributary of the Yarra River. An embankment 9.5 metres (31 ft) high holds back 30,000 ML (1.1 billion cu ft) of water. The reservoir is managed by Melbourne Water as part of the water supply system for Melbourne.

Melbourne's first reservoir, a 560 hectare lake with a capacity of 30,000 megalitres, was first established in December 1853 and provides water to Melbourne's northern and central suburbs. A park around the reservoir, managed by Parks Victoria, offers picnic, barbecue and walking facilities.
