Oozells Street Board School was a Victorian board school in Oozells Street, off Broad Street in Birmingham, England. It is a Grade II listed building.Designed in 1877 by local architects Martin & Chamberlain, responsible for over forty of the Birmingham board schools, it opened on 28 January 1878 to serve 807 primary children.The building became a college and then a furniture store for Birmingham City Council before being condemned for demolition; in 1976 the tower was demolished on safety grounds.The structure had a last-minute reprieve as the contract for demolition was being agreed and was renovated by Carillion, including the re-erection of the tower, with a steel girder frame, around 1997. The work cost of £4,700,000 and the building reopened in 1998 as the Ikon Gallery.Since 1993 it has been surrounded by the new buildings of Brindleyplace which replaced an earlier industrial area of factories and workshops.

The Ikon Gallery (grid reference SP060866) is an English gallery of contemporary art, located in Brindleyplace, Birmingham. It is housed in the Grade II listed, neo-gothic former Oozells Street Board School, designed by John Henry Chamberlain in 1877. Ikon was set up to encourage the public to engage in contemporary art. As a result, the gallery delivers an off-site Education and Interpretation scheme to educate audiences, and to promote artists and their work. The gallery is open every day of the week except Mondays, though it opens on bank holiday Mondays. Featured artworks include all forms of media including sound, sculpture and photography as well as paintings. Exhibitions rotate throughout the year so that as many pieces can be displayed as possible. Ikon is a registered charity which is partly funded by Birmingham City Council and Arts Council of England.

The Church of the Messiah, Birmingham was a Unitarian place of worship on Broad Street. The impressive Victorian Gothic church was constructed between 1860-1862 and straddled the Birmingham Canal. The congregation pre-dates the building, and has continued following its demolition in 1978. Those who worshipped there include politicians of local and national importance.

Broad Street is a major thoroughfare and popular nightspot centre in Central Birmingham, England. The Rum Runner was a nightclub on Broad Street, Birmingham. The club operated from 1964 until its demolition in 1987.

Bingley Hall in Birmingham was the first purpose-built exhibition hall in Great Britain. It was built in 1850 and burned down in 1984. The International Convention Centre now stands on the site.

The Crown Inn is a public house in Broad Street, Birmingham, England. Built in 1781, it was rebuilt in 1883, 1930 and 1991. It is Grade II listed.It was the brewery tap for William Butler's brewery, which Victorian building survived at the rear of The Crown until 1987.It sits alongside a Birmingham Canal Navigations canal. and is nestled within the outline of the International Convention Centre. The sash windows on the first and second floors are from the 1781 building. The architect for the 1883 work was William Jenkins, for the 1930 work, E F Reynolds, and in Alan Goodwin & Associates, who added a west façade described by the architectural critic Andy Foster as "cheap".Since the early 2000s, it has operated as part of a chain of 1980s themed nightclubs under the name "Reflex".

The International Convention Centre (ICC) is a major conference venue in Birmingham, England. The centre incorporates Symphony Hall and faces Centenary Square, with another entrance leading to the canals of Birmingham. The Westside area, which includes Brindleyplace, is opposite the building on the other side of the canal. The centre is owned and operated by the NEC Group, who is also responsible for the nearby Arena Birmingham, just to the west of the complex.

Symphony Hall is a 2,262 seat concert venue in Birmingham, England. It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 12 June 1991, although it had been in use since 15 April 1991. It is home to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and hosts around 270 events a year. It was completed at a cost of £30 million. The hall's interior is modelled on the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The venue, managed alongside Town Hall, presents a programme of jazz, world, folk, rock, pop and classical concerts, organ recitals, spoken word, dance, comedy, educational and community performances, and is also used for conferences and business events as part of the International Convention Centre. In 2016 the Concert Hall Acoustics expert Leo Beranek ranked Symphony Hall as having the finest acoustics in the United Kingdom, and the seventh best in the world. Proof of these fine acoustics is that a pre-opening acoustic test demonstrated that if a pin was dropped on stage, the sound could be heard from anywhere in the hall.

Broad Street Presbyterian Church is a Grade II listed former Presbyterian church, and later Second Church of Christ Scientist, on Broad Street, Birmingham, England.

Quayside Tower is a modern commercial building in Birmingham, England. It is situated on Broad Street, one of Birmingham's busiest streets. It forms a prominent part of the Broad Street skyline which consists of many other highrise buildings. Originally built in 1965 to a design by John Madin, it was refurbished in 2003 to a design by Richard Johnson & Associates to give it a more fashionable appearance. Ashford Construction stripped all sixteen floors above the podium and added a new curtain walling from the top downwards. This produced a new roof feature which was designed by Watts & Partners. A new reception area was constructed and the 240 space car park was refurbished. It was developed by Kenmore Group.The tower has a gross area of 11,148 square metres (119,996 sq ft) with 8,918.4 square metres (95,997 sq ft) available for let once refurbishment was completed.Attached to the podium are a series of up to 20 abstract concrete reliefs by William Mitchell which were commissioned by John Madin in 1965. The GI for this building was record setting by a prominent West London broker.

Brindleyplace is a large mixed-use canalside development, in the Westside district of Birmingham, England. It was named after Brindley Place, the name of the street (in turn named after the 18th-century canal engineer James Brindley) around which it is built. It was developed by the Argent Group from 1993 onwards. In addition to shops, bars and restaurants, Brindleyplace is home to the National Sea Life Centre, Royal Bank of Scotland, Orion Media, Ikon Gallery of art and the Crescent Theatre. The site covers 17 acres (69,000 m²) of mixed-use redevelopment - the UK's largest such project. The Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line Canal separates Brindleyplace from the International Convention Centre, although there are linking bridges. The National Indoor Arena, Old Turn Junction and bars of Broad Street are nearby and it is easily accessible and within walking distance of the main bus, metro (tram) and rail routes.
