Neighbourhoods of The Hague

Morgenstond (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmɔrɣə(n)ˌstɔnt], literally Morning or Dawn) is a 'wijk' in the south of The Hague in the Escamp 'stadsdeel'. Morgenstond was built during the early 50s and borders Bouwlust and Vrederust in the west, Leyenburg and Houtwijk in the north, Moerwijk and Zuiderpark in the east and Wateringse Veld in the south. Most streets in Morgenstond are named after places in Drenthe and Overijssel. Morgenstond used to be part of the former Loosduinen municipality, which was annexed by The Hague in 1923. Morgenstond can be divided into three neighborhoods: Morgenstond-West (Morgenstond-West) Morgenstond-Oost (Morgenstond-East) Morgenstond-Zuid (Morgenstond-South)

Houtwijk

Houtwijk (roughly translated as "Wood District") is a neighbourhood of The Hague, located in the Loosduinen district, with more than 5,000 homes. Houtwijk mainly contains a lot of new constructions that were built both in and after the 1970s and 1980s. There are also both many owner-occupied and rental properties. While officially a neighbourhood of Loosduinen, some residents consider it its own subdistrict. This is mainly because its name contains wijk which translates to "district".

Oud Eik en Duinen

Oud Eik en Duinen is a cemetery in The Hague, the Netherlands, formerly called Eik en Duinen and also nicknamed "the Dutch Père-Lachaise". The cemetery is built around a chapel constructed around 1247 by William II of Holland in honor of his father, Floris IV, Count of Holland. This chapel was partially demolished in 1581, and in the 17th century the area was again used as a cemetery. When Eik en Duinen was full, a new cemetery, Nieuw Eykenduynen, was constructed in 1891 across the road, and since then the old cemetery is known as "Old" Eik en Duinen.
