The Abraham Barton House in Lexington, Kentucky, is a 2+1⁄2-story Greek Revival structure dating from 1795. The house was constructed in multiple stages, and the original dwelling faced Second Street. Architect Gideon Shryock is credited both for the Greek Revival expansion and remodel in the early 1830s and for changing the front exposure to face North Upper Street. The House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The United States Post Office and Court House is a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky located in Lexington, Kentucky. Built in 1934, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

The Central Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, is a historic church at 205 E. Short Street, and an active congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The church was founded by Barton Stone and was the place where the Stone and Campbell movements united to form in 1832 as part of the Restoration Movement. The church was previously known as Hill Street Christian Church and Main Street Christian Church. The current building is part of the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The Lexington Herald Building, also known as the Nunn Building, in Lexington, Kentucky, is a 4-story commercial structure designed by Leon K. Frankel of Frankel & Curtis and constructed in 1917 as headquarters of the Lexington Herald. F. Paul Anderson, dean of the College of Engineering at University of Kentucky, where Frankel was also a professor, consulted on the steel frame of the brick building. The building's ornamentation is minimal, and it includes a denticulated cornice above the fourth floor windows and a parapet. There is a gable in the parapet in the front center holds a decorative scroll displaying an "H" (for Herald). The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.John L. Nunn purchased the Lexington Herald in the 1930s, and the Lexington Herald Building is now more associated with Nunn than with the Herald. The building functioned as office space for various clients until 2006, when it was renovated and expanded as a condominium development.The building address had been 121 North Walnut Street, but Walnut was renamed Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the address is currently 121 N Martin Luther King Blvd.

The Carnegie Library in Lexington, Kentucky was built in 1905 and served as Lexington's main library until 1989. It is now home of the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning. It is one of 29 sites on a National Park Service-recommended list of places to visit in Lexington, "Lexington, Kentucky: Athens of the West, a National Register of Historic Places Travel Itinerary.The building is a 1906-built Classical Revival-style Carnegie library, at the south end of Gratz Park, designed by architect Herman L. Rowe. It has a tetrastyle portico (observed in photo). It was built in 1906 of Bedford limestone at cost of $75,000, of which $60,000 was funded by the Carnegie Foundation. It was eventually replaced as the Lexington Public Library by a new, large central library on East Main Street.The library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building in the Gratz Park Historic District, listed in 1973. It is one of 18 buildings in the district.It was one of 2,500 public libraries built by Andrew Carnegie's funding between 1883 and 1929. The building reopened as the Carnegie Center in 1992.

Christ Church Cathedral is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington and is located at 166 Market Street, Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1796, Christ Church Cathedral is the oldest Episcopal church in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Renovations over the years have sought to preserve the original structure, and it remains relatively unchanged. The church created what is now called the Old Episcopal Burying Ground, located nearby. It held many who died during the cholera epidemics of 1833 and 1848, but most of the remains have been moved due to flooding. Working with the Martin Luther King Neighborhood Association and Seedleaf, the cathedral has established a community garden. It is operated primarily to grow vegetables for nearby residents, and encourages their participation in all steps: growing, harvesting, preparing and preserving. Hundreds of pounds of vegetables are given away annually to residents and community associations. In 2009 the garden was enlarged to include fruit trees and berry bushes.In recent outreach, Christ Church Cathedral has supported recognition of London Ferrill, the second preacher of First African Baptist Church. He led his church for 31 years, by 1850 building a congregation of 1,820 members, the largest of any in the state. He was one of the few clergy to stay in the city during the 1833 cholera epidemic, when 500 died of a total of 7,000 people in the city, including nearly one-third of the congregation of Christ Church. At death in 1854, Ferrill was buried in the Old Episcopal Burying Ground, the only African American to be so honored. In 2010 Christ Church supported installation of a monument to Ferrill at the burying ground, celebrating with a joint service with First African Baptist. They also supported approval of a state highway marker for the site. In addition, Christ Church named its community garden in honor of London Ferrill.The Bishop Provisional of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington is currently Mark Van Koevering.

Gratz Park is a neighborhood and historic district located just north of downtown Lexington, Kentucky. It was named after early Lexington businessman Benjamin Gratz whose home stands on the corner of Mill and New streets at the edge of Gratz Park. The Gratz Park Historic District consists of 16 contributing buildings including the Hunt-Morgan House, the Bodley-Bullock House, the original Carnegie Library in Lexington, and several other private residences. Gratz Park occupies a tract of land that was established in 1781 outside the original boundaries of Lexington. The Park was the original site of Transylvania College until the building was destroyed by fire in 1829. The Transylvania campus was moved across Third Street to its present location. At the northern edge of the park is the "Fountain of Youth," built in memory of Lexington author James Lane Allen using proceeds willed to the city by Allen. The park was deeded to the city of Lexington during the mid-20th century and is still used as a public park today. The Gratz Park is bounded by West Third and West Second streets on the north and south, and by the buildings that line Mill and Market streets on the west and east. The park is open to the public. The Historic Christ Church Cathedral is located at the edge of the district at 166 Market Street. Several houses within the district are open to the public. The Hunt–Morgan House, historically known as Hopemont, is a Federal style residence in Lexington, Kentucky built in 1814 by John Wesley Hunt, the first millionaire west of the Alleghenies. The house is included in the Gratz Park Historic District. The Alexander T. Hunt Civil War Museum is located on the second floor of the Hunt–Morgan House.Other notable people who resided at Hopemont include John Wesley Hunt's great-grandson, Thomas Hunt Morgan. Born in the house in 1866, he became the first Kentuckian to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The house has many beautiful architectural features, including the Palladian window with fan and sidelights that grace its front façade. In 1955 the Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation was formed to save this home from impending demolition. The organization restored the home to its Federal appearance.The Hunt–Morgan House is located on the corner of Mill and Second Streets, at 201 N. Mill Street, in Gratz Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The Bluegrass Trust for Historic Preservation still maintains the Hunt–Morgan House.

The First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Kentucky is a historic church at 171 Market Street. The church was designed by the important Lexington architect Cincinnatus Shryock who was also an elder at First Church. The original congregational name was the Mount Zion Church, founded in 1784, making it one of the oldest churches in Lexington, KY. The name was changed when they moved to the present day building in 1874.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

The Dr. Walter Warfield Building in Lexington, Kentucky, is a Second Empire or Georgian building constructed in 1806 on a corner of Jordan's Row, a string of buildings constructed or owned by John Jordan. Originally two stories, the brick building was expanded in 1870 with a third story that includes a Mansard roof and dormers. A later expansion added a 2-story annex to the building.The building was constructed for Dr. Walter Warfield (June 17, 1760 – March 12, 1826), a physician who served in the Continental Army during the American Revolution and who was admitted as an original member of The Society of the Cincinnati in the state of Maryland. Warfield was a distant cousin of Elisha Warfield, both descendants of John Warfield (1672-1718) of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Walter Warfield was a professor of midwifery in the medical department of Transylvania University in 1801, but his tenure may have been brief. Prior to construction of the Warfield Building, he practiced "physic and surgery" at the former offices of Samuel Brown and Elisha Warfield. In 1807 Walter Warfield purchased 27,500 acres of land in Montgomery County, although he may not have lived there. The previous owner had been John Jordan, namesake of Jordan's Row.

Henry Clay's Law Office was the law office of American statesman Henry Clay in Lexington, Kentucky from 1803 to 1810; it is one of the few professional buildings still standing from that time.

Lexington is the second-most-populous city in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (after Louisville), and the 60th-most populous city in the United States. It is the county seat of Fayette County. By land area, it is the country's 30th-largest city. Lexington is known as the "Horse Capital of the World". It is within the state's Bluegrass region. Notable locations within the city include the Kentucky Horse Park, The Red Mile and Keeneland race courses, Rupp Arena, Central Bank Center, Transylvania University, the University of Kentucky, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) Headquarters. As of the 2020 census the city's population was 322,570, anchoring a metropolitan area of 516,811 people and a combined statistical area of 747,919 people. Lexington is consolidated entirely within Fayette County, and vice versa. It has a nonpartisan mayor-council form of government, with 12 council districts and three members elected at large, with the highest vote-getter designated vice mayor.
