Raleigh National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the city of Raleigh in Wake County, North Carolina. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 7 acres (2.8 ha), and as of the end of 2005, had 6,000 interments. It is currently closed to new interments and is maintained by New Bern National Cemetery.

Lucille Hunter GT/ AIG Basics Magnet Elementary School, also known as Hunter Magnet Elementary School, formerly Lucille Hunter School, is a historically black elementary school for academically intellectually gifted students in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Hunter Elementary offers Gifted & Talented curriculum and was Wake County's first magnet school. The school was the first school in North Carolina to be named after an African-American educator.

The Battery Heights Historic District is a historic neighborhood and national historic district located southeast of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. Named for the earthen batteries stationed in the area during the Civil War, the neighborhood has a suburban character, despite its close proximity to the city center. The district is roughly bounded by East Martin Street on the north, Battery Drive on the east, East Davie Street on the south, and Sherrybrook Drive (originally Cox Street) on the west. It has a highly intact collection of 18 contributing buildings built between 1956-1964 and is a good example of Raleigh's post-World War II suburban development. Battery Heights' prominent architectural styles include Ranch and Split-Level homes primarily built in brick, stone and concrete.Battery Heights was one of a few subdivisions planned for the African American community in Raleigh. Its original owners and residents included physicians, educators, builders and government agency employees—one of whom, George Exum, was as the general contractor for several of the homes. The neighborhood is rapidly renewing since the mid-2010s and many new homes are being built on vacant lots and existing homes are being repaired. The newly renovated Robert's Park and Community Center is situated centrally in this neighborhood. The park has a children's playground, tennis court, basketball court, small baseball field and community center. Raleigh National Cemetery encompasses 7 acres in Battery Height's neighborhood. Battery Heights was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January 2011.

John W. Ligon GT Magnet Middle School, formerly John W. Ligon Junior-Senior High School, is a public magnet middle school in the Wake County Public School System located in the Chavis Heights neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was historically an all black high school in Raleigh until it was integrated in 1971.

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) is the primary North Carolina Department of Public Safety prison facility housing female inmates on a 30-acre (12 ha) campus in Raleigh, North Carolina, and serves as a support facility for the six other women's prisons throughout the state. The facility's inmate population, which is the largest in the state, consists of inmates from all custody levels and control statuses including death row, maximum security, close custody, medium security, minimum security, and safekeepers.

William A. Curtis House, also known as Villa Florenza, is a historic home located at Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina. It was built about 1915, and is a two-story, three bay wide, Late Victorian-style frame dwelling with a pyramidal roof. It has a full-height pedimented wing and one-story rear kitchen ell. It features a one-story wraparound porch. It was home to a prominent African-American family.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy (WYMLA) is a public secondary school for boys in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is a part of Wake County Public School System. It has grades 6–13, with the former Thompson School in Downtown Raleigh having most grades, except the campus of St. Augustine's University has grades 11 through 13.

Historic Oakwood is a neighborhood in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, on the National Register of Historic Places, and known for its Historic Oakwood Cemetery, its many Victorian houses and its location close to the Mordecai Plantation Manor. Located near the State Capitol and St. Augustine's Chapel, during the 19th century Historic Oakwood was home to prominent members of Raleigh's society. It is North Carolina's largest, intact 19th Century residential neighborhood and Raleigh's earliest white middle-class suburb. Unlike later suburbs, it developed lot-by-lot over time, instead of by platted sections. Its Victorian-era architectural styles include Second Empire, Queen Anne, and Italianate. Later infill brought the bungalow, the American Foursquare, American Craftsman style, and the Minimal Traditional house to the area.Oakwood is also known for its Christmas Candlelight Tour, which opens private historic residences to the public, and the Garden Tour, which allows the public to see the vast gardens worked on by the Oakwood Gardening Club.Oakwood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, with additions made in 1987, 1988, and 1989. It is also one of six local historic overlay districts (HOD). Several Oakwood residences are also individually recognized as Local Historic Landmarks.

Saint Augustine's University is a private historically black Christian college in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded by Episcopal clergy in 1867 for the education of freed slaves. The institution's accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, has voted to rescind its accreditation; the college remains accredited while it appeals that decision.

The City Cemetery of Raleigh, also known as Old City Cemetery, was authorized in 1798 by the North Carolina General Assembly as Raleigh's first burying ground. It was laid out on 4 acres (1.6 ha) of land just outside the original 1792 eastern boundary of Raleigh and bounded by East Street on the west, East Hargett Street on the south, and Morgan Street on the north. It was originally laid out in four equal quarters with the northern two quarters reserved for residents, the southwestern for visitors, and the southeastern for Negroes, both free and slaves. Over time, the cemetery has gradually been enlarged toward New Bern Street in 1819, 1849, and 1856 and now contains approximately 7.5 acres (3.0 ha). The cemetery was enclosed in 1898 by a cast-iron fence that was formerly around Union Square to keep straying livestock out of the State Capitol grounds. A network of cobblestone driveways with granite curbstones run through the cemetery. In 1857, the city boundaries were extended to include the cemetery, and the city charter provided for a resident caretaker. Many persons of Raleigh's and North Carolina's early period are interred at City Cemetery including governors, mayors, politicians, newspaper editors, military officers, ministers, doctors, planters, attorneys, bankers, and Scottish and English stonemasons who helped build the Capitol.City Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 12 September 2008.

Carolina Coach Garage and Shop is a historic intercity bus garage located at Raleigh, North Carolina. It was built in 1926, and is a one-story, rectangular building measuring approximately 90 feet by 140 feet. It features a stepped parapet with five levels with original terra cotta coping caps that hides a truss supported gabled roof. The building housed the Carolina Coach Company maintenance facilities until 1939.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The East Raleigh–South Park Historic District is the largest historically African-American neighborhood in Raleigh, North Carolina. The district, located south and east of downtown Raleigh, covers approximately 30 blocks and contains portions of the Smith–Haywood and St. Petersburg neighborhoods. Most homes in these neighborhoods were built between 1900 and 1940, with one-fifth dating back to the 19th century. Historic buildings in the district include Estey Hall and Leonard Hall, both located on the campus of Shaw University. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in October 1990. During the 1980's and 1990's portions of the district were redeveloped by the City of Raleigh housing authority in a slum clearance exercise in an effort to redevelop the neighborhood and improve infrastructure.
