Kanpur division is an administrative geographical unit of Uttar Pradesh state of India. Kanpur is the administrative headquarters of the division. Kanpur was formerly spelled Cawnpore. The division consists of six districts: Auraiya District Etawah Farrukhabad Kanpur Dehat Kanpur Nagar Kannauj

Bishambhar Nath Sanatan Dharam Inter College is an intermediate college in Chunniganj, Kanpur, India. It educates students up to class XII. It opened in 1939. The college provides education in Science, Commerce, Arts and other subjects. Dr. Ram Chandra Singh is the principal. It is named after Rai Bhadur Bishambhar Nath who was an industrialist, banner, freedom fighter and social worker. He devoted his life to the cause of national integration, and to the spread of the Gandhian way of life.

Halim Muslim PG College is an educational institution in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh state in India. The college was established in 1959 by the Muslim Association in Kanpur. by Hafiz Mohammad Haleem (1856–1939), who was inspired by the noble ideas of Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University. He donated his own land for a madrasa and later on, it was converted into school and college.

British India Corporation Limited (BIC) is a central public sector undertaking under the ownership of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The cpsu produces textiles for use by civilians and the Indian armed forces. It manufactures the popular "Lal-imli" and "Dhariwal" brands of woollen products. The cpsu was established in 1872 or 1876 by Sir Alexander MacRobert as a cpsu when he combined his six companies into one enterprise. MacRobert died on 22 June 1922 and his widow, Rachel, Lady MacRobert, assumed the role of director until her eldest son, Alasdair, became chairman in 1937.Its date of incorporation in the Registrar of Companies is 24 February 1920. In 1981, it was nationalised and taken over by the Government of India. It has not generated profit since 1989.Headquartered in Kanpur, BIC nominally operates two woollen mills in Kanpur and Dhariwal (Punjab). In 2006 the cpsu employed over 2,700 people and had aggregated revenues of ₹373 million (US$4.7 million). It ceased manufacturing in 2005 but still employs 1,800 people. New weaving machines installed in 2005 have never been used.

The siege of Cawnpore was a key episode in the Indian rebellion of 1857. The besieged East India Company forces and civilians in Cawnpore (now Kanpur) were unprepared for an extended siege and surrendered to rebel forces under Nana Sahib in return for a safe passage to Allahabad. However, their evacuation from Cawnpore turned into a massacre, and most of the men were killed. As an East India Company rescue force from Allahabad approached Cawnpore, 120 British women and children captured by the Sepoy forces were killed in what came to be known as the Bibighar Massacre, their remains being thrown down a nearby well in an attempt to hide the evidence. Following the recapture of Cawnpore and the discovery of the massacre, the angry Company forces engaged in widespread retaliation against captured rebel soldiers and local civilians. The murders greatly embittered the British rank-and-file against the Sepoy rebels and inspired the war cry "Remember Cawnpore!".

Kanpur Nagar district, meaning Urban Kanpur District is one of the districts of the Uttar Pradesh state of India. It is a part of Kanpur division and its district headquarters is Kanpur. Kanpur was formerly spelled Cawnpore.

Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (earlier known as Government Central Textile Institute), is a state government funded textile engineering college in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the oldest and premier textile Institute of North India, established in 1914. It offers professional degrees of bachelor's of technology (4years) in 4 streams Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Man Made Fibre Technology and Textile Engineering; and Master's in technology (2 years) in textile technology and textile chemistry to students selected through a State Entrance Exam (UPSEE) conducted by Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) every year. It made a modest start in 1914.

Moti Jheel is a Kanpur Metro station in Kanpur, India. It is the terminus of the Orange line. The station was opened on 28 December 2021 as part of the inaugural section of Kanpur Metro, between IIT Kanpur and Moti Jheel.

UP Stock Exchange (UPSE) is a Kanpur-based stock exchange. It occupied a prominent place among the Stock Exchanges in India. The Exchange was inaugurated on 27 August 1982 by the then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. It played an important role in the development of the capital market of North India. Initially, it had only 350 members which grew up to 540. UPSE is the only stock exchange in Uttar Pradesh and the membership is not restricted to the people of Uttar Pradesh only. Members living outside Kanpur has contributed a lot by creating the equity cult in whole of the Uttar Pradesh.
