Castle Rock is a butte in the Colorado Piedmont region of the Great Plains. An area landmark, it is the namesake of the town of Castle Rock, Colorado.The mesa’s caprock consists of rhyolite, rock which is strongly resistant to erosion. About 58 million years ago, a volcanic eruption took place that covered the area around Castle Rock with 20 feet (6.1 m) of rhyolite. After a few million years, mass flooding and erosion of the volcanic rock gave way to the butte-shaped mesa that almost resembles plateau.Public hiking trails on the mesa are in Rock Park, at the intersection of Front Street and Canyon Drive in the town of Castle Rock. The trailhead and parking are about two blocks south of the intersection on Front Street, for a 1.4-mile round-trip hike to the base of the town's namesake (climbing the rest of the way to the summit is discouraged by a sign warning that the loose rocks are a fall hazard). Other trailheads can be found along Canyon Drive and Sunset Drive.

Douglas County School District Re. 1 is a school district that serves Douglas County, Colorado. The district was formed in 1958 by the consolidation of 17 smaller school districts, adding the "Re. 1" to its name to note the district's first reorganization. In August 2019, the Arapahoe Community College Sturm Collaboration Campus at Castle Rock, Colorado has opened. This is a partnership with the district and Colorado State University. Classes at the new 43,000-square-foot facility at 4500 Limelight Ave. begins Aug. 19. Initial educational offerings will be in the areas of business and entrepreneurship, health care, cybersecurity and secure software, information technology/programming, general education and workforce training.

Castle Rock is a home rule town that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 73,158 at the 2020 United States Census, a 51.68% increase since the 2010 United States Census. Castle Rock is the most populous Colorado town (rather than city) and the 16th most populous Colorado municipality. Castle Rock is a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. The town is named for the prominent, castle-shaped butte near the center of town.

The First National Bank of Douglas County, at 300 Wilcox St. in Castle Rock, Colorado, in Douglas County, Colorado, was built in 1904. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. It was designed by architect George Louis Bettcher. It was deemedsignificant for its architecture. It is an excellent intact example of the Late Victorian design with many elements of Romanesque Revival style.... The two-part corner commercial building is faced with rock-faced rhyolite stone that was quarried outside of Castle Rock. This building was the second home for the bank and represents economic shifts occurring in the community as the bank sought a more permanent home during a time of community growth and as the bank shifted from out of state "back East" investors to local ownership. It has also been known as the Masonic Building. Its second floor was originally used as a meeting hall for local fraternal organizations. The building was vacant for three years starting in 1933, then purchased by the local Masons.It is the only architect-designed Romanesque Revival building in Castle Rock.

Daniel C. Oakes High School is a public school located in Castle Rock, Colorado. The school is a part of Douglas County School District RE-1. It has 161 students and has courses from grades 9–12.The school was founded in the year 1986. Derek Fleshman is the principal of the school.

Castle View High School is a public high school in Castle Rock, Colorado. It is part of the Douglas County School District. It opened in August 2006.

The Meadows is a master planned community, located in Castle Rock, Colorado along the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains Front Range. It is approximately 24 miles (39 km) south of Denver and 41 miles (66 km) north of Colorado Springs. The community is interconnected by 24 miles (39 km) of trails and contains 1,100 acres (4.5 km2) of parks and land for public use. Within the community, there are several schools, churches, playgrounds, ball fields, pools, restaurants and a cultural arts center.

Ridgeline Open Space is a public park located within The Meadows neighborhood in Castle Rock, Colorado along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. It sits at an elevation of 6,607 feet (2,014 m) and consists of 370 acres (1.5 km2) of public land that has been designated for conservation and recreational use. There are over 8 mi (13 km) of trails with panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains to the west and Castle Rock below.

Continental Divide Raceways was a race track located in Castle Rock, Colorado, about 30-mile (48 km) south of Denver. Built in 1959, it featured a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) road course, half-mile (.805 km) oval, and 4,200-foot (1,300 m) drag strip. The land was intended to be used for a multi-sport spectator venue, but a racing complex was built after a hill climb was staged on the property. The track saw its most active time in the 1960s, hosting the USAC National Championship, major sports car races, and Trans-Am. On July 30, 1972 Evel Knievel successfully jumped 11 Dodge vehicles on his motorcycle at the track. The track closed in 1979 due to a fatal accident but reopened in 1981, holding a NASCAR Winston West Series stock car race in 1982 before being sold to real estate developers in 1983. There was a motocross track called CDR Tech Track on the property where an AMA Motocross National was held in 1981 and 1982

Castle Pines Village, also known as The Village at Castle Pines or The Village, is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Castle Pines Village CDP was 4,327 at the United States Census 2020. Douglas County governs the unincorporated community and the Castle Pines Metropolitan District provides services. The Castle Rock post office (Zip Code 80108) serves the area.

The International (styled as The INTERNATIONAL) was a professional golf tournament in Colorado on the PGA Tour. It was played for 21 seasons, from 1986 through 2006, at the Castle Pines Golf Club at Castle Pines Village in Castle Rock, south of Denver. It had the distinction of being one of two PGA Tour events not conducted at traditional stroke play, the only other exception is the match-play event, the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. The International was the only tournament to use the Modified Stableford scoring system, enacted because of the significant elevation of the venue, which averages 6,300 feet (1,920 m) above sea level. Beginning in 2007, the International was scheduled to change dates to be played during the first full weekend of July (July 5–8, and July 4–7, 2008), midway between the U.S. Open and the British Open. Tournament officials hoped this new date would draw even more top-ranked players, such as Tiger Woods, as it would no longer be contested the week before (or after) the year's final major (PGA Championship). Even with the change in dates, both tournament founder Jack A. Vickers and the membership of the club were apparently not happy with the overall direction the PGA Tour was taking.On February 8, 2007, the PGA Tour announced the permanent cancellation of the International. It was replaced by the AT&T National, hosted by the Tiger Woods Foundation, and held in the Washington, D.C. area; near sea level, it uses standard stroke play. The Modified Stableford scoring system returned to the PGA Tour in 2012 at the Reno–Tahoe Open, also at high elevation.
