Tunstall, Suffolk

Blaxhall is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of the English county of Suffolk. Located around 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Leiston and Aldeburgh, in 2007 its population was estimated to be 220, measured at 194 in the 2011 Census.The parish council owns Blaxhall Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest located on the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south-east of the village. The area is one of the few remaining areas of lowland dry heathland in the Suffolk Sandlings and is managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve.The Blaxhall Stone is a large stone located at Stone Farm which, according to local legend, has been constantly increasing in size since it was dug up in the 19th century.Blaxhall is the subject of the book Ask the Fellows who Cut the Hay by the historian George Ewart Evans. It describes rural life in the village.

Royal Air Force Bentwaters or more simply RAF Bentwaters, now known as Bentwaters Parks, is a former Royal Air Force station about 80 miles (130 km) northeast of London and 10 miles (16 km) east-northeast of Ipswich, near Woodbridge, Suffolk in England. Its name was taken from two cottages ('Bentwaters Cottages') that had stood on the site of the main runway during its construction in 1943. The station was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War, and by the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Cold War, being the primary home for the 81st Fighter Wing under various designations from 1951 to 1993. For many years the 81st Fighter Wing also operated RAF Woodbridge, with Bentwaters and Woodbridge airfields being known by the Americans as the "Twin Bases". RAF Bentwaters was the location of an 13–14 August 1956 nighttime radar and visual sighting of multiple UFOs (the Lakenheath-Bentwaters incident); it is also near the location of the alleged December 1980 UFO incident in Rendlesham Forest. The site is now known as Bentwaters Parks. The Bentwaters Cold War Museum is located on the site, there are offices and warehouses, and the site is also used for television and film making.

Tunstall Common is a 36.6 hectares (90 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Tunstall in Suffolk. It is part of the Sandlings Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds, and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.Most of this dry lowland heath is dominated by heather, with diverse lichens and mosses. There are also areas of acid grassland, which are being invaded by gorse and bracken. Pine scrub is encroaching from neighbouring plantations.There is access from Orford Road and footpaths, which run through the common.

Blaxhall Common is a nature reserve in the parish of Blaxhall in the East Suffolk District of Suffolk. The reserve is owned by Blaxhall Parish Council and managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. It is designated a 45.9-hectare (113-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest as Blaxhall Heath. It is part of the Sandlings Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds, and of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A Bronze Age bowl barrow is a Scheduled Monument.

Sandlings Forest is a 2,483.8 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in two large blocks, Rendlesham Forest and Tunstall Forest, and two small ones, between Woodbridge and Aldeburgh in Suffolk. It is partly in the Sandlings Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds. It is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.These commercial coniferous plantations are designated an SSSI for their internationally important bird populations. Surveys in the 1990s found 81 singing nightjars, around 2% of the number in Britain, and 71 woodlarks, approximately 5% of the British population.There are public footpaths through the woods.

Wantisden is a small village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Largely consisting of a single farm and ancient woodland (Staverton Park and The Thicks), most of its 30 residents live on the farm estate. It shares a parish council with nearby Butley and Capel St. Andrew. It has a church dedicated to St John the Baptist.The place-name 'Wantisden' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Wantesdena and Wantesdana. The name means 'Want's dene or valley'.

Butley is a village and civil parish in the English county of Suffolk. Butley lies 7+1⁄2 miles (12 km) east of the town of Woodbridge on the B1084 (Orford) road. Administratively, Butley forms part of the East Suffolk district; from 1934 to 1974 it had been part of the former Deben Rural District, and then from 1974 to 2019 it had been part of the former Suffolk Coastal District Council. The parish church of St John the Baptist dates from the 12th century, but was much restored in 1868. It is a grade II* listed building.

Chillesford Church Pit is a 1.1-hectare (2.7-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Chillesford, south of Saxmundham in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and it is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This site has deposits dating to the Early Pleistocene Bramertonian Stage, around 2.4 to 1.8 million years ago. Fossils of molluscs and pollen indicate a temperate climate dating to the Chillesford Crag formation. The Chillesford Clay and Chillesford Crag are parts for the Norwich Crag Formation.The site is private land with no public access.

Rendlesham is a village and civil parish near Woodbridge, Suffolk, United Kingdom. It was a royal centre of authority for the king of the East Angles. The proximity of the Sutton Hoo ship burial may indicate a connection between Sutton Hoo and the East Anglian royal house, the Wuffingas. The king of Essex, Swithhelm (son of Seaxbald) who reigned from 660 to around 664, was baptised at Rendlesham by Bishop Cedd with King Æthelwold of East Anglia acting as his godfather. He died around the time of the great plague of 664 and may have been buried at the palace of Rendlesham. An archaeology project has identified a large settlement of more than 124 acres (50 hectares).Its name is recorded in Old English about 730 AD as Rendlæsham, which may mean "Homestead belonging to [a man named] Rendel", or it may come from a theorized Old English word *rendel = "little shore". The Church of St Gregory the Great in Rendlesham is a Grade I listed medieval church. Rendlesham Hall, a large manor house, was demolished in 1949.Rendlesham Forest, owned by Forestry England, is a 1,500-hectare (3,700-acre) mixed woodland with recreation facilities for walkers, cyclists and campers. It is part of the Sandlings Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Rendlesham Forest incident was a series of reported sightings of unexplained pulsing lights off the coast of Orford Ness in December 1980. During the summer of 2012, scenes of the movie Fast & Furious 6 were filmed on the former RAF Bentwaters airfield.

Neutral Farm Pit, Butley is a 1.1-hectare (2.7-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Butley, east of Woodbridge in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This is described by Natural England as a classic site in the study of the Early Pleistocene in East Anglia. It was used by the nineteenth-century geologist Frederick W. Harmer to define his Butley division of the Red Crag Formation, and it has many fossils of marine molluscs.There is access to the site from Mill Lane.
