Tunstall Common

Blaxhall Common is a nature reserve in the parish of Blaxhall in the East Suffolk District of Suffolk. The reserve is owned by Blaxhall Parish Council and managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. It is designated a 45.9-hectare (113-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest as Blaxhall Heath. It is part of the Sandlings Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds, and of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A Bronze Age bowl barrow is a Scheduled Monument.

Tunstall is a village and civil parish in Suffolk, England. There are two settlements named Tunstall next to each other, 7.5 miles (12.1 km) north east of Woodbridge. However, these are not two separate villages but one, despite the gap between the main village and the hamlet known as Tunstall Common. Both lie within the parish of Tunstall. The village itself is a good-sized settlement with a pub (The Green Man) and a church called St Michael's, notable for its unusual box pews. Half a mile away, Tunstall Common has a dozen houses and a Baptist chapel. Residents of the hamlet consider themselves to live at Tunstall on the Common, and letters are either addressed to The Common, Tunstall, or Tunstall Common. Tunstall Common itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a fragment of the ancient sandling dry lowland heath that was once extensive across this area of coastal Suffolk. It lies next to Tunstall Forest, which was started in the 1920s as a pine plantation. In the Great Storm of 1987, Tunstall Forest lost thousands of trees and the opportunity was taken to diversify the mix of trees planted. The area is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a haven for wildlife, including fallow deer and muntjac. The adjacent Rendlesham Forest is known for the former RAF Bentwaters site, now in private ownership, and alleged alien sightings in the 1980s. The Snape Maltings complex is within the parish of Tunstall.

Chillesford Church Pit is a 1.1-hectare (2.7-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Chillesford, south of Saxmundham in Suffolk. It is a Geological Conservation Review site, and it is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This site has deposits dating to the Early Pleistocene Bramertonian Stage, around 2.4 to 1.8 million years ago. Fossils of molluscs and pollen indicate a temperate climate dating to the Chillesford Crag formation. The Chillesford Clay and Chillesford Crag are parts for the Norwich Crag Formation.The site is private land with no public access.

Blaxhall is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district of the English county of Suffolk. Located around 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Leiston and Aldeburgh, in 2007 its population was estimated to be 220, measured at 194 in the 2011 Census.The parish council owns Blaxhall Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest located on the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south-east of the village. The area is one of the few remaining areas of lowland dry heathland in the Suffolk Sandlings and is managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve.The Blaxhall Stone is a large stone located at Stone Farm which, according to local legend, has been constantly increasing in size since it was dug up in the 19th century.Blaxhall is the subject of the book Ask the Fellows who Cut the Hay by the historian George Ewart Evans. It describes rural life in the village.

Chillesford is a village and civil parish in the East Suffolk district, in the English county of Suffolk. It is located on the B1084 road which runs east to west. Chillesford is 3 miles northwest of the small town of Orford. It is 5 miles southwest of Aldeburgh and 6 miles south of Saxmundham. Population of around 120 and 60 houses. At the 2011 Census the population is included in the civil parish of Butley The village was recorded in Domesday as Cesefortda.In 1258, Thomas Weyland bought the Manor of Chillesford. Amy Bantoff used to run the village shop, which is now closed. Mr. Pratt ran the local farm. Chillesford has a pub, The Froize Inn (east end of B1084), which used to be two cottages. A church (west end of B1084 – OS grid TM3852) has a tower and various other local buildings are made from local red crag bricks. The old brickyard was where a 20m skeleton of a whale was also once found. Pedlars Lane (heads north from the centre of the village) to Tunstall Chapel. Mill Lane (heads south and then south-west) which leads to Butley.

Suffolk Coastal (sometimes known as Coastal Suffolk) is a parliamentary constituency in the county of Suffolk, England which has been represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Thérèse Coffey, a Conservative Member of Parliament. She served as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from October 2022 to November 2023

Plomesgate is a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 41,579 acres (168.26 km2).Plomesgate Hundred comprises the historic ports of Aldeburgh and Orford, the medieval market town of Saxmundham and twenty other parishes in the east of the county. It forms a strip around 14 miles long and up to 9 miles wide running south-east from near Framlingham to the North Sea. It is bounded on the east by the sea, on the north by Blything Hundred, on the west by Hoxne and Loes Hundreds and on the south by the Butley River which flows into the River Ore near Orford Ness. The hundred is watered by the River Alde and its tributary streams and is generally a fertile loamy district with hills rising from the valleys and the coast and with sandy beaches in southern parts. It is in the Deanery of Orford in the Archdeaconry of Suffolk. It was one of seven Saxon hundreds grouped together as the Wicklaw Hundreds.Listed as Plumesgata in the Domesday Book, the origin of the name is unknown though presumably a derivation of "Plum's gate".

Iken Wood is a 5.3-hectare (13-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Snape in Suffolk. It is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.This is probably the only ancient coppice wood on blown sand in Britain. Massive oak standards are dominant, and there are stools with a diameter of 3 metres (10 feet). Other trees include silver birch, holly and rowan.The site is private land with no public access.

Snape Maltings Concert Hall is an arts complex on the banks of the River Alde at Snape, Suffolk, England. It is best known as one of the main sites of the annual Aldeburgh Festival. It is now one of two headquarters for Britten Pears Arts, with the other being The Red House. The original purpose of the Maltings was the malting of barley for the brewing of beer; local barley, once malted, was sent from here to London and exported to mainland Europe. Today a collection of shops, galleries, restaurants and the Concert Hall fill the old buildings. The Alde estuary is known for wildlife and river trips.

The Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts is an English arts festival devoted mainly to classical music. It takes place each June in the town of Aldeburgh, Suffolk and is centred on Snape Maltings Concert Hall.

Alde Mudflats is a 22 hectare nature reserve west of Iken in Suffolk. It is owned by the Crown Estate and managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. It is in the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and part of the Alde-Ore Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest, Ramsar internationally important wetland site, Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area under the European Union Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds, and Grade I Nature Conservation Review site,This three mile long stretch of inter-tidal mud and saltmarsh supports internationally important numbers of avocets, and other birds include black-tailed godwits, oystercatchers, marsh harriers, pintails, wigeons and grey plovers.There is no public access to the site.

Snape Priory was a priory in Suffolk, England. It was founded as a cell of the Benedictine St John's Abbey, Colchester in Essex.Cardinal Wolsey obtained a Papal Bull for the suppression of this house in 1527–28, towards his foundation of The King's School, Ipswich. After Wolsey's attainder and fall, the priory site and its possessions were granted to Thomas, Duke of Norfolk in 1532.
