Gees is a village in the Netherlands and it is part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. Gees is an esdorp which developed in the Middle Ages on higher ground. It was first mentioned in 1207 or 1208 as Gies. The etymology is unclear. In 1840, the village was home to 465 people. The first church was built in 1857, and has been replaced in 1913.

It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1997 and retained that rating until 2007.Owner and head chef of Idylle was Joop Zwiep.The restaurant regularly organized culinary test-events under the name "Proef op de Tong" (Eng.: "Test on the Tongue") in which chef Zwiep often mocked with standard culinary practices. In 2001, he changed the flow of courses and started with a dessert. In 1997, he confused his guests by serving a blue asparagus soup.The restaurant lost its star in 2008, due to Zwiep changing course from a fine dining restaurant to a cooking workshop in 2007.Idylle was a former member of the Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise.The restaurant was housed in a Dutch national monument, a Saxon farmhouse, built in the 19th century. Earlier it housed Michelin starred restaurant De Bokkenpruik.

Zweeloo is a village in the municipality of Coevorden, located in the province of Drenthe, in northeastern Netherlands. Zweeloo was a separate municipality from 1819 to 1998, when it was merged with Coevorden. Zweeloo is known for its Reformed Church that was built back in 13th century.

Wezup is a village in the Netherlands that is a part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. North of Wezup is Wezuperbrug and to the east is Zweeloo. Wezup is an esdorp which was first mentioned in 1284 as Wesepe, and means "brook through the meadow". In 1488, it became a boermarke, a communal and private land which was autonomous. In 1840, it was home to 168 people.

Witteveen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɪtəˌveːn]; English: White Bog) is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 16 km northeast of Hoogeveen. The village was first mentioned in 1856 as "het Witteveen", and means "white peat". In 1926, the peat was excavated as part of a project for the unemployed. 50 houses were built to house the workers. In 1929, a small Dutch Reformed church was built. The church is nowadays used as a residential home.

It was first mentioned in 1942 Wezeperbrug, and refers to the bridge over the Oranjekanaal near Wezup. The settlement started in the late-19th century after the canal was dug, and was originally called Nieuw-Wezup.

Orvelte (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɔrvɛltə]) is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 18 km northeast of Hoogeveen. Orvelte presents itself as a museum village. There is a saw mill, a blacksmith and a wooden shoe maker, all open to the public. A number of events are held throughout the year featuring traditional Dutch activities.

Balinge is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 14 km northeast of Hoogeveen. The village was first mentioned between 1381 and 1383 as Balinghe, and means "settlement of the people of Balo (person)".Balinge was home to 59 people in 1840.
