Witteveen, Midden-Drenthe

Orvelte (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɔrvɛltə]) is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 18 km northeast of Hoogeveen. Orvelte presents itself as a museum village. There is a saw mill, a blacksmith and a wooden shoe maker, all open to the public. A number of events are held throughout the year featuring traditional Dutch activities.

Balinge is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 14 km northeast of Hoogeveen. The village was first mentioned between 1381 and 1383 as Balinghe, and means "settlement of the people of Balo (person)".Balinge was home to 59 people in 1840.

Garminge is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 15 km northeast of Hoogeveen. It was first mentioned in 1362 as Gharminge, and means "the descendants of Garm". Garm is an old Dutch first name generally just used in the northern provinces Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland. Garminge was home to 97 people in 1840.

Meppen is a village in the Netherlands and is part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. Meppen was first mentioned around 1335. The etymology is unknown. Traces of an esdorp dating from 5,000 BC have been discovered near the hamlet. In 1840, it was home to 238 people.

Mantinge is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe. The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Mantinc, and means "settlement of the people of Mante (short for Manfred)".Mantinge was home to 280 people in 1840. In the 1930s, a work camp was established near the village. On 31 March 1942, it was used by 80 Jewish forced labourers. The food was poor, however the Jewish customs were respected. On 15 July 1942, the labourers were moved to Westerbork transit camp from where most were moved on to the concentration camps.

Zuidveld is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 16 km south of Assen. The statistical area "Zuidveld", which can also include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 80.

Wezup is a village in the Netherlands that is a part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. North of Wezup is Wezuperbrug and to the east is Zweeloo. Wezup is an esdorp which was first mentioned in 1284 as Wesepe, and means "brook through the meadow". In 1488, it became a boermarke, a communal and private land which was autonomous. In 1840, it was home to 168 people.

Westerbork (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɛstərˌbɔr(ə)k]) is a village in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe in the Netherlands. It is located in the middle of the eastern province of Drenthe. During World War II, the Westerbork transit camp was located near the village. The Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope and the Camp Westerbork Museum are now situated at the site.

Wezuperbrug is a village in the Netherlands. It is a part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. It was first mentioned in 1942 Wezeperbrug, and refers to the bridge over the Oranjekanaal near Wezup. The settlement started in the late-19th century after the canal was dug, and was originally called Nieuw-Wezup.

Elp is a small village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 15 km south of Assen. The village was first mentioned in 1362 as "in Elpe". The etymology is unclear.Elp was home to 243 people in 1840.The Elp culture was named after the village.
