Bowscale Fell

Bannerdale Crags is a fell in the English Lake District. It stands between Blencathra and Bowscale Fell in the Northern Fells.

Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, is one of the most northerly of the Cumbrian Mountains, in the English Lake District. It has six separate fell tops, of which the highest is the Hallsfell Top at 2,848 feet (868 metres).

Mungrisdale Common, pronounced mun-grize-dl, with emphasis on grize, is a fell in the English Lake District. Although Alfred Wainwright listed it as one of the 214 featured hills in his influential Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells it was his least favourite. He commented that it "has no more pretension to elegance than a pudding that has been sat on". There is some speculation that Wainwright included the fell in his guide simply as a way to fill space, but that has never been proven. Mungrisdale Common is oddly named, as it is a number of miles from the village of Mungrisdale, which lies in a different river catchment.

Lake District High Fells is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in Cumbria, England, which was designated in 2005. It is a multi-site SAC with an area of 27,003.07 ha (104.2594 sq mi) consisting of 10 separate sites including the summit of Scafell Pike, which at 977 m (3,205 ft) is the highest mountain in England. The SAC takes its name from the English Lake District and "Fell", the local word for a mountain. It protects 16 habitat types listed in the European Union's Habitats Directive. As is usual with SACs in England, the protected areas are also covered by Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designations. Threlkeld is a village and civil parish in the north of the Lake District in Cumbria, England, to the east of Keswick. It lies at the southern foot of Blencathra, one of the more prominent fells in the northern Lake District, and to the north of the River Glenderamackin. The parish had a population of 454 in the 2001 census, decreasing to 423 at the Census 2011.

The Mosedale Viaduct carried the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway over Mosedale Beck until its closure in 1972. Building work on the viaduct began in 1862, and the first test train crossed it in 1864. It is made of stone and has 12 arches, and is just over 140 yards (420 feet (130 m)) long. It was built single-track but was extended to the north in 1900 to accommodate two tracks. In 1997 British Rail Property Board agreed to defer plans to demolish the viaduct, in the light of proposals for the line to be reopened. It is featured in S1 Ep 4 of Walking Britain's Lost Railways.

The Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum is a museum located in Threlkeld three miles (4.8 km) east of Keswick, in the Lake District in Cumbria. It includes a quarry with a collection of antique machinery, such as locomotives and cranes, an underground tour of a simulated mine, a geological and mining museum, and mineral panning.

Threlkeld railway station was situated on the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway between Penrith and Cockermouth in Cumbria, England. The station served the village of Threlkeld. The station opened to passenger traffic on 2 January 1865, and closed on 6 March 1972.

The River Glenderamackin, the Glendermackin or Glendermackin Beck is a watercourse in Cumbria, England. It is a headstream of the Greta. The river rises on Mungrisdale Common north of Blencathra and drains much of the eastern and southern sides of the mountain. The river runs east, then north before sharply turning south at the village of Mungrisdale, skirting almost all around the bottom of Souther Fell. Latterly, the river turns west to the north of Hutton Moor End and the Trout Beck joins it at Wolt Bridge to the south of Lowside. Not too far away it is soon swelled again by the waters of Mosedale Beck next to Dobson's Bridge. The Glenderamackin continues past Threlkeld, at which point it conjoins with St. John's Beck to form the River Greta.

St. John's Beck is a river in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. The beck has its beginning as an outflow of Thirlmere, whence it flows northwards through St. John's in the Vale, towards Threlkeld, where it meets the River Glenderamackin to form the River Greta.

Knott is a mountain in the northern part of the English Lake District. It is the highest point of the Back o'Skiddaw region, an area of wild and unfrequented moorland to the north of Skiddaw and Blencathra. Other tops in this region include High Pike, Carrock Fell and Great Calva. The fell's slopes are mostly smooth, gentle, and covered in grass, with a few deep ravines. It stands a long way from a road and requires a long walk across the moor top get to it; this, as well as the fact that it is hidden from the rest of the Lake District by the two aforementioned giants, make it one of the most unfrequented tops in the Lakes. When it is climbed it is most often from Mungrisdale or from the north via Great Sca Fell. The word Knott is of Cumbric origin, and means simply "hill".

Mosedale Beck is a river in Cumbria, England, which rises on the northern slopes of Great Dodd and flows north east, to the south of Clough Head before joining the River Glenderamackin to the east of Threlkeld village. This then flows west, alongside the A66 road south of Blencathra, to form the River Greta which flows into the River Derwent. Shortly before joining the Glendaramackin, Mosedale Beck is crossed by the Mosedale Viaduct of the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway, now a footpath.
