Harburn railway station

Harburn is a small village and estate in West Lothian, Scotland. It lies approximately 2 miles south-east of West Calder and just to the north of the Pentland Hills. The Harburn estate is a 19th century landscaped park and country house estate, primarily laid out in 1808. Harburn House is a Category B listed 18th century country-house that was built in 1804 for Alexander Young (1757-1842), factor to the Duke of Hamilton. It replaced an early property, Hayfield House and there are also records of a Harburn Castle, recorded as being fortified during Cromwell's invasions. The stables are also early 19th century and are Category B listed. In 1832, King Charles X of France visited Harburn and a monument to his visit, in the form of a stone column was erected.

Murieston Castle is a ruined tower house, dating from the 16th century, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of West Calder, west of the Murieston Water, at Murieston Castle Farm, West Lothian, Scotland. It is a scheduled monument and between 1971 and 2018 it was a Category B listed building.

Newpark railway station was a railway station serving Newpark near Bellsquarry in West Lothian, then called Linlithgowshire. It was on the Cleland and Midcalder Line between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Trains on the Shotts Line still pass through the site of the former station.

Polbeth (G. Poll - pool beithe - birch tree "birch pool") is a former oil shale mining village located about a mile from West Calder, and not far from Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland.

Adambrae is a residential area and small river (burn) in Livingston, consisting primarily of privately owned housing. There is a small nature area and pond adjacent to Bluebell Glade in Adambrae where the "Adambrae burn" runs through the area. This area is home to various waterfowl.

Bellsquarry is a suburban area located in the south-west of Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. Bellsquarry is located to the west of the Murieston area of the town and to the south of the Dedridge area of the town. The Brucefield industrial estate lies on its western edge.

Murieston (From Muir (moor) of Houstoun) is a primarily residential district on the southern edge of Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. It lies to the south-east of Bellsquarry.

Five Sisters Zoo is a privately owned zoological park located in Polbeth, West Calder. The zoo was founded by Brian and Shirley Curran and originally operated as an attraction within their garden centre on the same site. The zoo officially opened in 2005 when it was granted a licence to display wild animals to the public. The zoo is named after the Five Sisters shale bings located to the north of West Calder. Since 2012, the zoo has worked with Belgian rescue shelter Natuurhulpcentrum to rehome rescued animals including brown bears, lions and an asiatic black bear. The zoo was named the ‘Best Family Day Out’ at the 2024 Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards. The zoo is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).

The Scottish Institute of Theatre, Dance, Film and Television is a specialist prviate educational college and institute of further education in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. The institute has received funding from West Lothian Council, Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government. The institute is associated with Silver Rock Film Studios in Ireland. The Principal of the institute is Mark Langley, who was appointed in May 2024. The institute is only school in Scotland accredited by the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT). The Institute manages Howden Park Theatre, a performance space with a 300-seater auditorium in Livingston.

West Calder railway station is a railway station serving West Calder in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located on the Shotts Line, 17 miles (28 km) west of Edinburgh Waverley on the way to Glasgow Central. The station has two platforms, connected by a stairway footbridge, and CCTV. It is managed by ScotRail. In 2018, accessibility improvements at the station saw the installation of a new footbridge and lifts while the original cast iron footbridge was dismantled and removed to the heritage Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. Pedestrian ingress onto and egress from either platform, without using stairs or lifts, is possible via tarmac ramp connecting to the pavement of a traffic bridge.
