Mucking Marshes Landfill

Thurrock Thameside Nature Park is an Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserve located on top of the former Mucking Marshes Landfill in Thurrock, England which will eventually cover 845 acres (342 ha). It is next to the River Thames and provides good bird and ship watching. The Cory Environmental Trust Visitor Centre is located at the preserve and provides a roof top viewing platform.

Mucking is an archaeological site near the village of Mucking in southern Essex. The site contains remains dating from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages—a period of some 3,000 years—and the Bronze Age and Anglo-Saxon features are particularly notable.Major excavations took place at the site between 1965 and 1978, directed by Margaret Ursula Jones. Covering an area of 18 hectares (44 acres), at the time it was the largest archaeological excavation in Europe, and is the largest excavation ever undertaken in the British Isles. Excavation continued year-round to stay ahead of gravel extraction that was rapidly destroying the site, accumulating an "astonishing" volume of material. Only a fraction of this was analysed or published in Jones' lifetime, and ultimately the bulk of the post-excavation work was left to others. The first volume of a "full publication" was not published until 2015, by which point the post-excavation phase had cost significantly more than the initial excavation. This led some to criticise Mucking as an irresponsible, "excavation without publication".

Mucking is a hamlet and former Church of England parish and civil parish adjoining the Thames Estuary in the Thurrock unitary authority area, in southern Essex, England. It is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the town of Stanford-le-Hope. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 498.

Stanford Warren is a 16.6-hectare (41-acre) nature reserve south of Stanford-le-Hope in Essex. It is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.This former gravel quarry is bisected by the River Hassenbrook. It has one of the largest reedbeds in the county, together with rough grassland and marshes. The bird life is diverse, including water rails, grey wagtails and bearded tits.There is access from Mucking Wharf Road.

The Bata shoe factory in East Tilbury is what remains of an industrial estate in Essex, England, which produced shoes for over 70 years. Founded in 1932 by Tomáš Baťa, the factory was "one of the most important planned landscapes in the East of England" in the 20th century. The factory closed in 2005.

Thurrock () is a unitary authority area with borough status in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames immediately east of London and has over 18 miles (29 km) of riverfront including the Port of Tilbury, the principal port for London. Thurrock is within the London commuter belt and is an area of regeneration within the Thames Gateway redevelopment zone. The borough includes the northern ends of the Dartford Crossing. The local authority is Thurrock Council, based in Grays. The borough also includes Purfleet-on-Thames, South Ockendon, Stanford-le-Hope and Tilbury, as well as other villages and surrounding areas. More than half of the borough is designated as Green Belt. The neighbouring districts are the London Borough of Havering, Brentwood, Basildon and Castle Point. On the opposite side of the Thames are Gravesham and Dartford in Kent.

Linford Wood is a 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) Local Nature Reserve in East Tilbury in Essex. It is owned and managed by Thurrock Council.The site has mixed woodland, a willow plantation, hedges, ditches and an open area. Birds include tawny owls, great spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers. It is part of the proposed extended Thurrock Thameside Nature Park.There is access from East Tilbury Road.

East Tilbury railway station is on a loop line of the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the village of East Tilbury, Essex. It is 25 miles 7 chains (40.4 km) down the line from London Fenchurch Street via Rainham and it is situated between Tilbury Town and Stanford-le-Hope. Its three-letter station code is ETL. It was opened on 7 September 1936 as a halt station intended to serve workers at the nearby Bata Shoe Company, which paid for the construction of the platforms. Initially, trains only stopped in rush hour. The halt was upgraded to full station status in January 1949. Increasing patronage at East Tilbury led to the closure in 1967 of Low Street, a minor station close by. East Tilbury is on a link known as the Tilbury Loop, which joins the main line at the London end at Barking and at the country end at Pitsea. The station and all trains serving it are operated by c2c. It is located close to Coalhouse Fort, an artillery fort dating from the 1860s.

Mucking Flats and Marshes is a 311.6 biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Tilbury in Essex. It is part of the Thames Estuary and Marshes Ramsar site. and Special Protection AreaThe site is an extensive stretch of mudflats, saltmarsh and the sea wall, on the eastern side of the River Thames. Wildfowl and waders feed and roost on the site, with internationally important numbers of ringed plover, and nationally significant shelducks, grey plovers, dunlins, black-tailed godwits and redshanks. Plants include the nationally scarce golden samphire, and invertebrates the rare spider baryphyma duffeyi.The Thames Estuary Path goes through the site.

Grove House Wood is a 2.2 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Stanford-le-Hope in Essex. According to Natural England, it is owned by Thurrock Council and managed by Essex Wildlife Trust but it is not listed on the web site of either body.The site has woodland with dead elms which provide nesting sites for woodpeckers. Other habitats are a pond, a brook and reedbeds.There is access from Fairview Avenue.

St Clere's School (formerly St Clere's School and Language College) is a coeducational co-operative secondary school with academy status located on the outskirts of Stanford Le Hope, Thurrock, Essex. The school was established in 1978, became an academy in 2011 and since 2013 has also been a specialist science and sports college. It has a "good" Ofsted rating and has a student population of 1342 as of 2021.The school is involved with the Jack Petchey Award. It is offered to students in the upper years of the school, being years 9 to 11. It is also a sister school with fellow trust school Thames Park Secondary School, with current Headteacher Ashlie Hughes being the executive head at Thames Park.

East Tilbury is a village and former civil parish in the unitary authority of Thurrock borough, Essex, England, and one of the traditional Church of England parishes in Thurrock. In 2011 the ward had a population of 6,363.
