Nora is a village in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, the population was 107, down from 121 according to the 2010 census, which was up from 118 in 2000.

Warren is a former Amtrak railroad station in the city of Warren, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, United States. Located at the intersection of Railroad Street and Burnett Avenue in Warren, the station served the Black Hawk from February 13, 1974, to September 30, 1981. The station consisted of one side platform with a depot, which has since been demolished. Prior to Amtrak, the station served trains operated by the Illinois Central Railroad, which began service on January 9, 1854, when service was extended 25 miles (40 km) northwest from Freeport. Service continued until April 30, 1971, when the Hawkeye (Waterloo–Chicago) was discontinued on the day before Amtrak began passenger service.

The Warren Commercial Historic District is a historic commercial district located in Warren, Illinois. The district encompasses the town's central business district and includes 34 contributing buildings and a water tower. Development in the district began in 1852, the year that the Illinois Central Railroad came to Warren, and continued into the twentieth century. The railroad depot is a centerpiece of the district, as Warren's economy depended heavily on the railroad. Later development in the district mainly took place in the form of several distinct additions; as a result, lots in the district are irregularly sized. Most of the buildings in the district are vernacular brick commercial structures with pressed metal or brick ornamentation, though examples of Victorian and Classical Revival architecture can also be seen.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1995.

Warren High School, or WHS, is a public four-year high school located at 311 South Water Street in Warren, Illinois, a village in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. WHS serves the communities and surrounding areas of Warren, Apple River, and Nora. The campus is located 38 miles east of Dubuque, Iowa, and serves a mixed village and rural residential community.

Waddams Grove was the first settlement in Stephenson County. It is located northwest of Lena. The community is near the site of the Battle of Waddams Grove which took place during the Black Hawk War.

Millville is a defunct settlement in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, United States, located within the boundaries of Apple River Canyon State Park. Founded in 1835 and platted in 1846, the community was washed away completely by a flood in 1892. No visible remnants of its structures remain today. The site of Millville was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as the Millville Town Site in 2003.

Apple River Canyon State Park is an Illinois state park on 297 acres (120 ha) in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, United States. The park was begun with land purchased by the state in 1932, as a result of a prolonged campaign led by botanist Herman Silas Pepoon; with additional acquisitions since, 1,907 acres (772 ha) of land have been preserved to protect much of an 8+1⁄2-mile (13.7 km) long canyon on the Apple River.The river canyon is part of the Driftless Area of Illinois, a region that was bypassed by the last ice age; "the glacial sweep which ironed out hills and filled valleys in other parts of the state left this area unscratched". During the dramatic events that surrounded the end of the last Ice Age, the Apple River, which once flowed eastward into the Pecatonica River, reversed its original course and began to flow southwest through an erosion gorge to the Mississippi. The result is a deep canyon, part of which is preserved in the Park. Loess covered the landscape and the soils that developed on it are mapped as Lacrescent silty clay loam and Dubuque silt loam.The Apple River Canyon State Park, and the Land and Water Reserve within the park, offers hiking, fishing, and hunting on parcels of gorge land. There are several hiking trails through the woods with nice views of the river and bluffs, and a tent campground. Smallmouth bass live in the river.
