Firelands High School is a public high school in Oberlin, Ohio in the United States. Firelands High School absorbed South Amherst High School and its school district during the summer of 1988.The school is located in Henrietta Township (at 10643 Vermilion Road) and serves the townships of Brownhelm, Camden, Florence (in Erie County), Henrietta, New Russia, and the village of South Amherst.The school's official colors are red and white, and their teams' nickname is "Falcons." School colors often include black, but it is not an official school color. The school is a member of the Stars division of the Lorain County League as of the 2019–2020 school year. Their primary rival is the Vermilion High School Sailors.

Barney Creek is a former name for a creek within Amherst Township, Lorain County, Ohio. It is possibly an alternate name for Little Beaver Creek, or perhaps was simply a typographical-error for "Barnes Creek". Modern maps do not have "Little Beaver Creek" labeled separately, but only designate it as being a sub-branch of Beaver Creek.

The Dean Road Bridge on the Vermillion River is a historic Pratt truss bridge built in 1898. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.It spans the Vermillion River between Erie and Lorain counties. It was built by the Massillon Bridge Co. and was deemed to be "an excellent example of the turn-of-the-century metal truss bridges that were constructed throughout this region."

Schoepfle Garden is a 70-acre (280,000 m2) botanical garden and natural woodland bordered by the Vermilion River (Ohio). The garden features collections of rhododendrons, roses, lilies, hostas, various shade plants, along with many varieties of shrubs, topiary and trees. There is a visitor center, and guided tours are available throughout the year. The garden is part of the Lorain County Metro Parks, and is located on Market Street in Birmingham, Erie County, Ohio.

The Erie Nuclear Power Plant was a proposed nuclear power plant to be located 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Sandusky, Ohio. It was proposed in 1976 by Ohio Edison (a forerunner of FirstEnergy) for the Central Area Power Coordination (CAPCO). The plant was to consist of two Babcock & Wilcox 1,267 megawatt reactors. Unit 1 was scheduled to be complete in 1986, Unit 2 in 1988. Preliminary work was canceled in 1980 due to new federal requirements placed on nuclear plants that make their construction more expensive and by a drop in anticipated customer energy demand.

Brownhelm Township is one of the eighteen townships of Lorain County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,877. Brownhelm was the first local government of any kind in the United States to elect a black man to public office; on April 2, 1855, John Mercer Langston, a black man from Virginia, became town clerk. He later became a United States congressman.

Vermilion is a city in Erie and Lorain Counties in the U.S. state of Ohio, on Lake Erie. Its population was 10,659 at the 2020 census. Located about 35 miles west of Cleveland and 17 miles east of Sandusky, it is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and Sandusky micropolitan area.
