Jianguomen (Beijing)

The Tian Mingjian incident (also known as the Jian'guo Gate incident) was an act of mass murder that occurred in Beijing, China on 20 September 1994. People's Liberation Army officer First Lieutenant Tian Mingjian first killed his officer and several other soldiers at his military base in Tongxian County and afterwards drove towards Jianguomen, where he continued his shooting spree and indiscriminately fired at people in the streets. Seventeen civilians, including an Iranian diplomat and his son, along with up to 11 soldiers and policemen were killed before Tian was finally shot dead by a police sniper.

Jianguomen Inner Street (simplified Chinese: 建国门内大街; traditional Chinese: 建國門內大街; pinyin: Jiànguómén Nèi Dàjiē) is a major street in urban Beijing. It forms part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. Its path begins after the Dongdan intersection heading east until Jianguomen Bridge. During its short run, it crosses with the intersection to the Beijing railway station. The Beijing International Hotel also lies along its track, as does a main postal office and the building of China customs. The street ends near the Beijing Ancient Observatory. The Beijing Ancient Observatory (traditional Chinese: 北京古觀象臺; simplified Chinese: 北京古观象台; pinyin: Běijīng Gǔ Guānxiàngtái) is a pretelescopic observatory located in Beijing, China. The observatory was built in 1442 during the Ming dynasty, and expanded during the Qing. It received major reorganization and many new, more accurate instruments from Europeans (Jesuits) in 1644. As one of the oldest observatories in the world, the Beijing Ancient Observatory grounds cover an area of 10,000 square meters. The observatory itself is located on a 40 by 40 meter wide platform on the top of a 15 meter tall brick tower, an extant portion of the old Ming dynasty era city wall that once encircled Beijing. Several of the bronze astronomical instruments are on the platform, and other armillary spheres, sundials, and other instruments are located nearby at ground level. It is operated as a museum in affiliation with the Beijing Planetarium.

The Office of the Macau Special Administrative Region in Beijing (simplified Chinese: 澳门特别行政区驻北京办事处; traditional Chinese: 澳門特別行政區駐北京辦事處; pinyin: Àomén Tèbié Xíngzhèngqū Zhù Běijīng Bànshìchù; Portuguese: Delegação da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau em Pequim) is the representative office of Macau in the mainland area of the People's Republic of China. Its counterpart office is the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, representative office of the Central Government of the People's Republic of China in Macau.

Beijing railway station (simplified Chinese: 北京火车站; traditional Chinese: 北京火車站; pinyin: Běijīng Huǒchēzhàn), or simply Beijing station (Chinese: 北京站; pinyin: Běijīngzhàn), is a passenger railway station in Dongcheng District, Beijing. The station is located just southeast of the city centre inside the Second Ring Road with Beijing Station Street to the north and the remnants of the city wall between Chongwenmen and Dongbianmen to the south. The Beijing railway station opened in 1959 and was the largest train station in China at the time. Though superseded by the larger Beijing West and Beijing South stations, this station remains the only one located inside the old walled city. Trains entering and leaving the station pass by the Dongbianmen corner tower. With gilded eaves and soaring clock towers, the architecture of the railway blends traditional Chinese and socialist realist influence. Generally, trains for northeast China (Shenyang, Dalian, Harbin) on the Beijing–Harbin railway, for Shandong (Jinan, Qingdao) and the Yangtze River Delta (Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou) on the Beijing–Shanghai railway and some for Inner and the Republic of Mongolia depart from this station. Some international lines (notably the railway line linking Beijing to Moscow and to Pyongyang, North Korea (DPRK), amongst others), also depart from this station. The Beijing Subway's first line used to terminate at Beijing railway station from 1969 to 1981. The subway station is now a stop on Line 2. More than 30 Beijing bus and trolleybus routes stop at or near the railway station.

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) is a Chinese research institute and think tank based in the People's Republic of China. CASS is under the auspices of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. CASS houses the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which later became the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.According to Chen Daoyin, a former professor at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, CASS "is not so much an academic institution but a body to formulate party ideology to support the leadership."

Jianguomen Station (simplified Chinese: 建国门站; traditional Chinese: 建國門站; pinyin: Jiànguómén Zhàn) is an interchange station on Line 1 and Line 2 of the Beijing Subway at Jianguomen in Dongcheng District and Chaoyang District, Beijing. The station handles over 170,000 transfers between Lines 1 and 2 per day.

The Beijing Ming City Wall Ruins Park (traditional Chinese: 北京明城牆遺址公園; simplified Chinese: 北京明城墙遗址公园; pinyin: Běijīng Míng Chéngqiáng Yízhǐ Gōngyuán) is a park in Beijing with the longest and best preserved section of the city's Ming Dynasty city wall. The park is located 3 km (1.9 mi) from the city center and extends east from Chongwenmen to Dongbianmen and then north to near to Beijing Railway Station East Street. The park features a 1.5 km (0.93 mi) section of the Ming city wall and the Southeast Corner Tower, which are over 550 years old and surrounded by green park space to the south and east. The park covers an area of 15.5 ha (38 acres), including 3.3 ha (8.2 acres) of fortifications and 12.2 ha (30 acres) of green space. The corner tower and the ramparts atop the wall can be accessed for an admission fee.

Yabaolu (Chinese: 雅宝路; pinyin: Yǎbǎo Lù; lit. 'Yabao Road', Russian: Ябаолу) is a street and area in Beijing, China, running from Chaoyangmen Outer Street to Jianguomen Outer Street. The south part of Yabaolu is home to Beijing Children's Hospital. On the west side of Yabaolu lies Ritan Park. As of 2011 the community has many high rise shopping malls and shops, is a major hub of trade. Previously it was a community of one story courtyards with little activity.
