Longships, Cornwall

Longships Lighthouse is an active 19th-century lighthouse about 1.25 mi (2.0 km) off the coast of Land's End in Cornwall, England. It is the second lighthouse to be built on Carn Bras, the highest of the Longships islets which rises 39 feet (12 m) above high water level. In 1988 the lighthouse was automated, and the keepers withdrawn. It is now remotely monitored from the Trinity House Operations & Planning Centre in Harwich, Essex.

Land's End (Cornish Standard Written Form: Penn an Wlas or Pedn an Wlas) is a headland and tourist and holiday complex in western Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, on the Penwith peninsula about eight miles (13 km) west-south-west of Penzance at the western end of the A30 road. To the east of it is the English Channel, and to the west the Celtic Sea. Land's End is the most westerly point of mainland England. However, it is not the westernmost point on mainland Great Britain, as this title narrowly goes to Corrachadh Mòr in the Scottish Highlands.

The RMS Mülheim was a German cargo ship that was built in Romania and launched in May 1999. It was wrecked on 22 March 2003 at Land's End, United Kingdom.

Maen Castle is an Iron Age promontory fort or 'cliff castle' close to Land's End in Cornwall. It is one of only two fortified sites in Cornwall where Early Iron Age pottery has been found. Excavations took place in 1939 and 1948-9 and about 300 sherds were unearthed. The defences comprise a stone rampart, ditch and counterscarp bank built across the neck of the headland, with almost sheer cliffs on two sides and a steep slope on the third. There are some indications that the site may have been occupied before these defences were constructed.

Sennen Cove Lifeboat Station is the base for Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) search and rescue operations for the sea around Land's End, Cornwall in the United Kingdom. The first lifeboat was stationed at Sennen Cove in 1853. Since 2009 it has operated a Tamar-class all weather boat (ALB) and a D-class (IB1) inshore lifeboat (ILB).

According to the Penwith District Council, the population of this settlement was estimated at 180 persons in 2000. The South West Coast Path passes through Sennen Cove.

Whitesand Bay (Cornish: Porth Senan, meaning cove at Sennen) is a wide sandy bay near Land's End in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It stretches for one mile between the headlands of Pedn-mên-du and Aire Point. and contains the village of Sennen Cove. It is also a landing point for the Atlantic Crossing 1 international telecommunications cable. Whitesand Bay beach is popular with surfers. At high tide, the beach is divided in two: Sennen Cove beach to the south (more popular for its size, facilities and surf schools), and Gwynver beach to the north (popular for its typically better surfing waves and walking distance of Trevedra Farm campsite). At the south end, at Sennen Cove, there are toilet facilities, a surf shop, a restaurant, and two car parks, one in a large field above the cliff, and another beside the beach. Dogs are banned on the beach from Easter Day to 1 October every year. The South West Coast Path runs along the dunes behind the beach.

Trevescan is a hamlet in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated between the village of Sennen and the settlement at Land's End, 8 miles (13 km) west of Penzance.The name is Cornish and could mean tre (hamlet) + personal name Bescan which means "little short one", or could be a corruption of heskyn, ″sedge″ or ″marsh″. Previous spellings of the name include, Trefescan (1302), Trevescan (1310), Trevascan (1327) and Treviscan (1343).

Sennen village is situated approximately eight miles (13 km) west-southwest of Penzance.Sennen parish is bounded by the sea to the west and bordered by the parishes of St Just to the north, St Buryan to the east, St Levan to the south. The Longships, a group of rocky islets situated off Lands End, are also within the parish. The main settlements are Churchtown, Trevescan, Carn Towan, Sennen Cove and Land's End. For the purposes of local government Sennen elects a parish council every four years. The main local authority is Cornwall Council.

Nanjizal (Cornish: Porth Nansusel, meaning "cove of the howling valley"), also known as Mill Bay, is a beach and cove in the civil parish of St Levan, Cornwall, on the south-western coast of Great Britain. Situated one mile to the south-east of Land's End, Nanjizal has no direct access via road, and is usually reached via the South West Coast Path from Land's End in the north, or from Porthgwarra to the south. Nanjizal is also a noted bird watching location.

Mayon is a hamlet on the A30 main road north of Sennen in west Cornwall, England. Mayon is about 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Penzance.Much of the land in St Levan belonged to the manor of Mayon and in the early 17th-century the land was divided between six heiresses, one of whom married John St Aubyn.
