Ridlington, Norfolk

Witton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located 8 km (5.0 mi) east of the town of North Walsham and 30 km (19 mi) north of the city of Norwich. It should not be confused with the quite different Norfolk village of similar name in the parish of Postwick with Witton, some 8 km (5.0 mi) east of Norwich. The villages name means 'wood farm/settlement'. The civil parish (officially known as Witton) also includes the village of Ridlington and has an area of 9.77 km2 (3.77 sq mi) and in the 2001 census had a population of 298 in 134 households, increasing to a population of 318 in 141 households at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of North Norfolk. The parish church has a round tower, making it one of the many round-towered churches in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Crostwight is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Honing, in the North Norfolk district, in the north-east of the county of Norfolk, England. In the past, it was sometimes called Crostwick, but this should be avoided, for fear of confusion with the different village of Crostwick, also in Norfolk. In 1931 the parish had a population of 61.Apart from the church, the village consists of Crostwight Hall, its cottages and outbuildings, an old rectory, and a few other houses.

Bacton is a village and civil parish in Norfolk, England. It is on the Norfolk coast, some 12 miles (20 km) south-east of Cromer, 25 miles (40 km) north-west of Great Yarmouth and 19 miles (30 km) north of Norwich. Besides the village of Bacton, the parish includes the nearby settlements of Bacton Green, Broomholm, Keswick and Pollard Street. It also includes Edingthorpe, which was added to Bacton civil parish under the County of Norfolk Review Order, 1935. The seaside village, whose name is derived from 'Bacca's farm/settlement', is located on the North Norfolk coast between Mundesley (a blue flag beach) and Walcott, Norfolk. Bacton is known for its very quiet sandy beaches offering miles of walking along the beach and cliffs. The England Coast Path passes through the village and also the Paston Way long-distance footpath linking Cromer and North Walsham. In the east of the parish can be found the ruined Cluniac Bromholm Priory. The civil parish has an area of 9.45 square kilometres (3.65 sq mi) and in the 2001 census had a population of 1,130 in 474 households the population increasing to 1,194 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of North Norfolk. Amenities in the village include: a village shop, a hotel, two cafes, a Chinese restaurant and kebab house, as well as a recreation ground. In addition there are several caravan parks and estates consisting of privately owned holiday chalets, giving holidaymakers access to the beach. During the First World War there was also an airfield located nearby, RAF Bacton.

Walcott is a small village and civil parish on the North Norfolk coast in England between Mundesley and Happisburgh. The name is formed from the Anglian word 'walh' (cognate with 'Welsh') and the Anglo-Saxon 'cot' meaning 'cottage, hut, shelter or den'. The village is 19.1 miles (30.7 km) north east of Norwich, 11.9 miles (19.2 km) south east of Cromer and 137 miles (220 km) north east of London. The village lies 5.6 miles (9.0 km) east of the town of North Walsham. The village is the only point where the B1159 (the coast road) actually runs along the edge of the sea. This makes it a popular stopping off point for day-trippers and storm watchers. The parish was created in 2008, partitioned from the Happisburgh parish.

East Ruston Common is a 34.5-hectare (85-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-east of North Walsham om Norfolk.This is an area of unimproved fen, heath and carr woodland in the valley of a tributary of the River Ant. it is the only known English locality for the rare spider, acanthophyma gowerensis, and it also has another nationally rare spider, hygrolycosa rubrofasciata.There is public access to the common.

East Ruston is a village and a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The village is located 4.1 miles (6.6 km) south-east of North Walsham and 14 miles (23 km) north-east of Norwich.

Ostend is a coastal settlement in the English county of Norfolk. The population is included in the civil parish of Walcott. It is between the towns of Cromer and Caister-on-Sea being south of, and contiguous with, Walcott. Ostend achieved a degree of national notability in June 2002 when a rare specimen of Cuvier's beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris) was stranded on its beach.

St Mary's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of East Ruston, Norfolk, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands in an isolated position on the east side of the B1159 road, some 2 miles (3 km) north of Stalham. It is noted for its 15th-century painted and carved chancel screen.

RAF Bacton is a former Royal Air Force landing field, built to accommodate aircraft intercepting Zeppelin bombers during the First World War.

East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens is a notable privately owned garden in the county of Norfolk at East Ruston in Eastern England. The gardens were established in 1973 by Alan Gray and Graham Robeson, who have created a 32-acre (130,000 m2) design which incorporates exuberant and innovative planting alongside a more traditional formal design. On an unpromising site, close to the North Sea and surrounded by arable prairie, the gardens are protected from harsh onshore wind by a shelter belt of Monterey Pines which created a unique micro-climate. Exotic and unusual plants from around the world flourish alongside more hardy species. Notable are the tree ferns, succulents and palms which surround the house, as is the Californian 'Desert Wash', the Exotic Garden with a water sculpture and a large cornfield sown with a selection of native but now scarce 'weeds' such as cornflower, poppy and corn marigold. The gardens contain an interesting collection of sculptures by local artists as well as many architectural features.

Edingthorpe is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Bacton, in the North Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England. The village is located 10 miles (16 km) south-east of Cromer and 18 miles (29 km) north-east of Norwich. In 1931 the parish had a population of 213. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Bacton under the County of Norfolk Review Order, 1935.
