The following is a timeline of the history of Charlotte, North Carolina, United States.

One South at The Plaza (formerly the Bank of America Plaza) is a 503 feet (153 m), 40-story skyscraper in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the 6th tallest in the city. It contains 887,079 square feet (82,412 m2) of rentable area of which 75,000 sq ft (7,000 m2) of retail space, and the rest office space. On the ground floor is the Overstreet Mall, which connects to neighboring buildings via skybridges; located below-grade is the parking garage with space for 456 vehicles and leases a nearby five-level garage, providing 730 additional parking spaces. Opened in 1974 as NCNB Plaza, it served as the world headquarters for NCNB and its successor, NationsBank, until the opening of NationsBank Corporate Center in 1992. It was the tallest building in North Carolina from its completion in 1974 until it was surpassed by One First Union Center in 1987. The tower is located at the intersection of East Trade Street and South Tryon Street. A bronze sculpture entitled "Il Grande Disco" is located in the plaza adjacent to the building. Behringer Harvard REIT I Inc bought the tower in 2006. Cousins Properties acquired the building in 2019, and renamed it One South at The Plaza in 2021 after Bank of America relocated its employees elsewhere in Uptown. NCNB Plaza was built along with the 350-room Radisson Plaza. In 1998, LaSalle Advisors of Chicago owned NationsBank Plaza and the Radisson Plaza when Omni Hotels, which exited Charlotte two years earlier, bought the hotel with plans for an $8 million renovation, making it a Four Diamond luxury hotel.

Charlotte ( SHAR-lət) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Located in the Piedmont region, it is the county seat of Mecklenburg County. The population was 874,579 as of the 2020 census, making Charlotte the 16th-most populous city in the U.S., the seventh most populous city in the South, and the second most populous city in the Southeast behind Jacksonville, Florida. The city is the cultural, economic, and transportation center of the Charlotte metropolitan area, whose 2020 population of 2,660,329 ranked 23rd in the U.S. The Charlotte metropolitan area is part of a sixteen-county market region or combined statistical area with a 2020 census-estimated population of 2,846,550.Between 2004 and 2014, Charlotte was ranked as the country's fastest-growing metro area, with 888,000 new residents. Based on U.S. Census data from 2005 to 2015, Charlotte tops the U.S. in millennial population growth. It is the third-fastest-growing major city in the United States. Residents are referred to as "Charlotteans".Charlotte is home to the corporate headquarters of Bank of America, Truist Financial, and the east coast headquarters of Wells Fargo, which along with other financial institutions has made it the second-largest banking center in the United States. As of 2020, Charlotte was considered as a Gamma + level global city by the GaWC.Among Charlotte's notable attractions, some of the most popular include the Carolina Panthers (NFL), the Charlotte Hornets (NBA), Charlotte FC (MLS), the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Charlotte Ballet, Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Mint Museum, Harvey B. Gantt Center, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Billy Graham Library, Levine Museum of the New South, Charlotte Museum of History, Carowinds amusement park, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center.Charlotte has a humid subtropical climate. It is located several miles east of the Catawba River and southeast of Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina. Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake are two smaller man-made lakes located near the city.

Thomas Polk Park is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and comprises the west quadrant of Independence Square, at the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets. Named for Thomas Polk, a founding father of Charlotte and was among the residents and officials of Mecklenburg County who drafted and adopted the Mecklenburg Resolves.

112 Tryon Plaza is a 280 ft (85 m) 22-story high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the second tallest building in North Carolina when completed in 1927, and the tallest building in Charlotte for about 35 more years. It is currently the 21st tallest building in the city. Located on "The Square" at the corner of Trade St. and Tryon St. adjacent to a pocket park, this building has a premiere location in Uptown Charlotte, also known as Charlotte center city. In 2006 it was sold for $12 million to the Simpson Organization.

Tryon Street is a streetcar station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The at-grade dual side platforms on West Trade Street are a stop along the CityLynx Gold Line, serving Independence Square and the second largest financial hub of the United States.

101 Independence Center is a high-rise office building located in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. It was completed in 1983 and stands at a height of 301 ft (92 m) with 20 floors. It is the seventh largest building in Charlotte by leasable square feet with 565,694 square feet. It sits on the former site of the Independence Building at Charlotte's Independence Square.

Home Federal Building is a historic bank building located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1967, and is a seven-story, reinforced-concrete, International Style building with an eight-story concrete-block service tower. Also on the property are a contributing fountain and pool (1967) and walkway bridge (1967). The building has been converted to condominiums. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The Independence Building was a 186-foot (57 m) high-rise in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1909 by J.A. Jones Construction and imploded on September 27, 1981 to make way for 101 Independence Center. It originally had 12 floors but 2 more were added in 1928. It was the tallest commercial building in North Carolina, overtaking the title previously held by the Masonic Temple Building in Raleigh. The height of the Independence Building was surpassed by the Jefferson Standard Building in Greensboro in 1923.The building was later demolished. In 1981, the 101 Independence Center was built at the former site of the building.

121 West Trade (formerly known as the Interstate Tower) is a office skyscraper located at the Trade and Tryon, in Charlotte Center City, North Carolina. The post modern building was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and was completed in 1991. It also has 330,000 feet (101,000 m) of Class A office space.

First Citizens Plaza is a 320 feet (98 m) office high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was completed in 1985 and has 23 floors.

Merchants and Farmers National Bank Building was a historic bank building in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1871–1872, a three-story, brick building with a stuccoed front and Italianate style cast iron trim manufactured by the Mecklenburg Iron Works. The building housed Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodges that met there from the 1870s through 1920. It was the oldest surviving commercial building in the central business district of Charlotte until it was demolished in 1989. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The building was demolished in 1989 to make room for construction of the new corporate headquarter of NCNB, which later became Bank of America. Currently, the Bank of America Corporate Center sits at the former location of the building.
