Hans Majestet Pinnsvinet (eng. His Majesty the Hedgehog), or Erinaceus europaeus minor, Rex et Inspirator, is the high protector of Studentersamfunnet i Bergen (eng. Bergen Student Society). The Majesty appeared in 1935, one year after the Student Society was founded. To appoint an animal as protector is a tradition in Norwegian student organisations, dating back too 1859 when Norwegian Students' Society in Oslo selected a pig as their highest protector. The hedgehog is also head of Pinnsvinordenen (lat. "Ordo Erinacei"), an order of honour awarded to selected former members of the Student Society for their commitment and work for the organization. The order started as a parody of the royal orders and academic ceremony. The only human to receive the highest decoration of Pinnsvinordenen is Olav V of Norway, who was the Crown Prince of Norway at the time of the ceremony.

Studentersamfunnet i Bergen, (eng. Bergen Student Society), is the oldest public student organisation in Bergen, Norway. It was founded in 1934, 12 years before the University of Bergen, by students and academics from Bergen Museum founded in 1825 and seat of higher education and research in Western Norway. The Student Society is the largest independent arena for political, academic and cultural debates in Western Norway. Most of the meetings are held at Det Akademiske Kvarter, the student house in Bergen. The organisation arranges debates, lectures and meetings on many different political, cultural and scientific subjects. It has hosted prominent people such as Shirin Ebadi, Norman Finkelstein, Desmond Tutu and Fredrik Barth. The program is planned and booked by volunteer students from the various educational institutions in Bergen. The protector of Studentersamfunnet is a european hedgehog, called Hans Majestet Pinnsvinet (Erinaceus europeus minor, Rex et Inspirator). Hans Majestet Pinnsvinet is also the head of an academic order of honour, named Pinnsvinordenen (Order of the Hedgehog) awarded to selected former members of the Student Society for their commitment and work for the organization.

Saint Paul's Catholic Church (Norwegian: Sankt Paul katolske kirke) is a Roman Catholic church in Bergen, Norway. It is located at Christies street and Nygård street between Lille Lungegårdsvann and Nygårdshøyden. Bergen Catholic parish includes Hordaland (excluding Sunnhordland) and Sogn og Fjordane, and was created in 1858, but the church did not come until 1870. On 31 December 2004 there were 4,044 registered Catholics in Bergen. 5 years later, the number increased to 7,300 believers. Furthermore, it grew to more than 12,000 in 2012. There is also a Roman Catholic school in Bergen, St. Paul's School. 60% of the students at this school are Catholics.For the 12,000 Catholics in Bergen, St. Paul's Catholic Church seems too small to accommodate all of them. There is also St. James's Church to serve the growing community, but there are still plans to build several Catholic churches in Bergen. The largest groups of Catholics in Bergen are Polish and Chileans.

The University of Bergen (Norwegian: Universitetet i Bergen, Urban East Norwegian: [ʉnɪvæʂɪˈtèːtə ɪ ˈbæ̀rɡn̩]) is a research-intensive state university located in Bergen, Norway. As of 2019, the university has over 4,000 employees and 18,000 students. It was established by an act of parliament in 1946 based on several older scientific institutions dating back to 1825, and is Norway's second oldest university. It is considered one of Norway's four "established universities" and has faculties and programmes in all the fields of a classical university including fields that are traditionally reserved by law for established universities, including medicine and law. It is also one of Norway's leading universities in many natural sciences, including marine research and climate research. It is consistently ranked in the top one percentage among the world's universities, usually among the best 200 universities and among the best 10 or 50 universities worldwide in some fields such as earth and marine sciences. It is part of the Coimbra Group and of the U5 group of Norway's oldest and highest ranked universities.

The University Museum of Bergen (Norwegian: Universitetsmuseet i Bergen) is a university museum in Bergen, Norway. The museum features material related to anthropology, archaeology, botany, geology, zoology, art, and cultural history.

The West Norway Museum of Decorative Art (Norwegian: Permanenten Vestlandske kunstindustrimuseum), also referred to as KODE 1, is located in Bergen, Norway. It was established in 1887 at the initiative of Johan Bøgh. In 1896 the museum moved into a permanent exhibition building, a Renaissance Revival structure designed by Henry Bucher (1864–1944). The building caught fire during the 1916 Bergen fire but was saved. The collections include older local works in silver, furniture, glass, porcelain, and textiles. Upon its opening, the museum received substantial donations from the merchant Christian Sundt.During the first years, the Bergen Art Gallery occupied the top floor. The collection was then moved from there to the former power plant building (Norwegian: Lysverksbygget) after it became available. The Fisheries Museum also occupied the ground floor. After merging with Bergen Art Museum, the museum has been a venue for more temporary exhibitions. Its emphasis remains on crafts from the past 500 years, and also its Chinese Collection, a unique assembly of Chinese art. This is mostly a bequest from Johan Wilhelm Normann Munthe (1864–1935), who lived in China from age 22 until his death in 1935. The museum was also responsible for the Alvøen site and Damsgård Manor, but this has now been taken over by the new Bergen City Museum.

Magnus Barefoot Cinema Centre (Norwegian: Magnus Barfot Kino) is a cinema multiplex in Bergen, Norway. It is the main venue of Bergen International Film Festival.The cinema is owned by Bergen Kino AS. It was named after the street that runs along the building (however, it is not the address of the complex), which in turned was named after 11th-century Norwegian monarch Magnus Barefoot (1073–1103). The cinema complex, which opened to the public on October 1, 2004, has five cinemas over five floors with a total of 1,060 seats. The building was designed by the architectural firm Grieg Arkitekter.

St. John's Church (Norwegian: Johanneskirken) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Sydnes area of the city of Bergen. It is one of the five churches for the Bergen Cathedral parish which is part of the Bergen domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The red brick church was built in a cruciform design between 1891 and 1894 in the Gothic Revival style. The architect was Herman Backer. The church seats about 1250 people, making it the largest church in Bergen. It was consecrated on 15 March 1894.

Bergen Light Rail (Norwegian: Bybanen) is a light rail system in Bergen, Norway. The first stage of the project was a twenty-station stretch between the city center and Lagunen Storsenter, where the first 15 stations comprising a 9.8-kilometre (6.1 mi) stretch opened in 2010, and the second was a 3.6-kilometre (2.2 mi) stretch from Nesttun to Lagunen which opened in June 2013. A third stretch from Lagunen to Bergen Airport, Flesland opened in 2017. The second line between Kaigaten and Fyllingsdalen opened on 21 November 2022. Further plans for the project involve mooted extensions to Åsane and Storavatnet.Plans for rail transit have existed since the 1970s, following the 1965 closing of the Bergen Tramway. A rapid transit design was first discarded, and in the 1990s a light rail line was proposed. The decision to start construction was made in 2005. The first stage was built by the municipality, with financing from the state and the toll road ring, based on the Bergen Program. Ownership, maintenance and further extensions and vehicles are the responsibility of Hordaland County Municipality through its wholly owned subsidiary Bybanen AS. Operation is governed by public service obligation contracts issued by the county public transport authority Skyss. From 2010 to 2017 the line and its 20 Variobahn trams were operated by Keolis Norge (formerly Fjord1 Partner).

Bergen Student-TV (BSTV) is a local community television station based in Bergen, Norway. The channel's main purpose is to deliver news and entertainment to students of Bergen. The employees are students, working voluntarily to get more media experience. Until 2009 BSTV had weekly shows on the local broadcaster BTV. The station also broadcasts some programs online. In addition some of the material produced is sent on the national community TV network, Frikanalen. The number of active members was around 80 in September 2011. The members are working with reporting, entertainment, photo and editing, multi-camera broadcast, web-design, graphics and public relations. In the spring of 2011 bstv.no had 25,000 viewers. In 2004 BSTV made national headlines when the host of the show appeared drunk on television.

The Human Rights House of Bergen (also known as the Rafto Human Rights House) is based in Bergen, Norway. It is located near the student centre (Studentsenteret) of the University of Bergen and is owned and operated by the Egil Rafto House Foundation.The Human Rights House is a unit of the international network established by the Human Rights House Foundation. It was established in memory of journalist Egil Rafto (1951–1997) who was the son of Professor Thorolf Rafto (1922–1986), lecturer in economics at the Norwegian School of Economics. Egil Rafto were a co-founders of the Rafto Foundation for Human Rights which was founded during 1986 in honor of his father. Thorolf Rafto had been strongly active in the international fight for human rights.The Human Rights House of Bergen was opened in 1999 by Kim Aris who is the youngest son of Burmese diplomat Aung San Suu Kyi and British historian Michael Aris (1946–1999). Rafto Foundation for Human Rights and several other organizations have permanent offices in the house, such as Amnesty International, AFS Intercultural Learning, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Norwegian Church Aid's Youth. Other groups can the house for seminars, meetings, or social events.

Bergensavisen (lit. "the Bergen newspaper"), usually shortened to BA, is the second largest newspaper in Bergen, Norway. The paper is published in tabloid format. The newspaper's webpage ba.no is Bergen's largest local newspaper webpage. In 2006, Bergensavisen had a daily circulation of 30,719 on Monday to Saturday, and 29,782 on Sundays. Approximately 108,000 read the paper every day.
