River Roch

The Salford Hundred (also known as Salfordshire) was one of the subdivisions of the historic county of Lancashire, in Northern England (see:Hundred (county division). Its name alludes to its judicial centre being the township of Salford (the suffix -shire meaning the territory was appropriated to the prefixed settlement). It was also known as the Royal Manor of Salford and the Salford wapentake.

Flying Officer John Wilson Wallwork (1898 – 18 December 1922) was a British World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories.

Radcliffe Tower is the only surviving part of a manor house in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester (historically in Lancashire). It is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Monument. The house was rebuilt in 1403 by James de Radcliffe, who was lord of the manor of Radcliffe, and consisted of a stone-built hall and one or two towers, probably built with ashlar blocks. De Radcliffe was given a royal licence to fortify the site including adding crenellations and battlements.The manor house was demolished in the 19th century leaving only the tower. The tower measures 10.5 yards (9.6 m) by 19 yards (17 m) and survives to about 20 feet (6.1 m) in height. The remains are owned by Bury council. It was used as a pig sty before being restored. Radcliffe Tower is about 3.3 kilometres (2.1 mi) south of Bury Castle, a late 15th-century moated manor house. In 2009, plans to restore the shell of the tower as part of a wider restoration project covering Radcliffe E'es, Close Park and the parish church were launched with the support of Bury Council.

The Parish Church of St Mary, Radcliffe is a church in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester. It was built during the 14th century, but the tower was not added until the 15th century. The building is designated Grade I by English Heritage, having been listed in 1966 under its former name of the Church of St Mary and St Bartholomew. In 1991, some local parishes were merged, and the church adopted its present name.The churchyard contains the war graves of six soldiers of World War I and three of World War II.

Parr Brook is a watercourse in Greater Manchester and a tributary of the River Roch. It originates in Unsworth and flows through Bury Golf Club before joining the River Roch at Blackford Bridge.

Bury Hebrew Congregation, also known as Bet Knesset Sha'ar HahShamayim (Gate of Heaven Synagogue) is an Orthodox synagogue, serving the Jewish community in the Sunnybank, Unsworth and Hollins area of North Manchester.

Whitefield is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. It lies on undulating ground above the Irwell Valley, along the south bank of the River Irwell, 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of Bury, and 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Manchester. Prestwich and the M60 motorway lie just to the south. Historically part of Lancashire, Whitefield was on the path of an ancient Roman road leading from Mamucium (Manchester) in the south to Bremetennacum (Ribchester) in the north. Throughout the Middle Ages, Whitefield was a division of the township of Pilkington, itself a part of the parish of Prestwich-cum-Oldham and hundred of Salford. Pilkington and Whitefield have historic associations with the Earls of Derby. Farming was the main industry of this rural area, with locals supplementing their incomes by hand-loom woollen weaving in the domestic system. The urbanisation and development of Whitefield largely coincided with the Industrial Revolution. The name Whitefield is thought to derive from the medieval bleachfields used by Flemish settlers to whiten their woven fabrics, or else from the wheat crop once cultivated in the district. The construction of a major roads routed through the village facilitated Whitefield's expansion into a mill town by the mid-19th century. Whitefield became a local government district in 1866, and was governed by a local board of health until 1894, when the area of the local board became an urban district.

Sha'arei Shalom ("Gates of Peace"), also known as North Manchester Reform Congregation, is a Reform Jewish congregation formed in 1977 and affiliated to the Movement for Reform Judaism. Since 1980 it has met at Elms Street, Whitefield, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England.

Bury Golf Club, is a private golf course and club in Unsworth, Bury, designed by Alister MacKenzie, Charles Hugh Alison, and Harry Shapland Colt. The club was originally located at a course in Redvales, Bury, before moving to its current Unsworth location in 1922. The current course is eighteen-holes in length, and sits east of the clubhouse at Unsworth Hall. Notable players include Harry Vardon, Henry James, Sandy Herd, and Alister MacKenzie.

All Saints' Church or Stand Church is an active Anglican parish church in Stand, Whitefield, Greater Manchester, England. It is in the deanery of Radcliffe and Prestwich, the archdeaconry of Bolton, and the diocese of Manchester. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I-listed building. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission. The church is a tall building, standing on high ground, and is constructed on a platform.

Whitefield is a tram stop in the town of Whitefield, Greater Manchester, England. It is on the Bury Line of Greater Manchester's light rail Metrolink system.

Hollins Brook is a watercourse in Greater Manchester and a tributary of the River Roch. It originates in Unsworth and is one of the habitats that makes up Hollins Vale Nature Reserve.
