Yokosuka Station

The Yokosuka Naval Base (Japanese: 横須賀基地, Hepburn: Yokosuka Kichi), also simply known as the JMSDF Yokosuka Naval Base, is a group of ports and land facilities of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), which are scattered in multiple districts of Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and where the Yokosuka District Force, etc. are located. It is not officially called a base, but it is used as a common name. The base sits alongside the United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka. It has a facility where people can train with Japan's technology to create water pressure in the deep sea (water depth 450 meters). Not only allied countries such as the United States, Thailand, and Vietnam, but also the navy of hypothetical enemy countries such as Russia are visiting.

The horseshoe-shaped theatre seats 1,806 and there is a smaller hall, the Yokosuka Bayside Pocket, with a capacity of 600. The Bay Square complex is by Kenzo Tange, with acoustical design of the halls by Nagata Acoustics.

The predecessor of the school was founded in 1910 in Kanda, Tokyo as the Tokyo Joshi Shika Gakiun Gakkō (東京女子歯科医学校). After the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake, it relocated to Shinagawa. It relocated again to Ota-ku, Tokyo in 1933, and to its present location in Yokosuka in 1964. It was chartered as a coeducational university in 1964.Kanagawa Dental University Junior College is a subsidiary of the Kanagawa Dental College, and shares the same campus.

The junior college was established in 1952, and shares the same campus. The primary aspect of its curriculum is to provide the commercial, legal and communications skills for a successful dental practice.

United States Naval Hospital Yokosuka Japan with its eight branch clinics are US Navy medical treatment facilities catering to the medical needs of eligible Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, family members, U.S. government employees, retired military service members and other eligible beneficiaries of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces on mainland Japan, Korea and Diego Garcia. The core hospital is located on board Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka with branch clinics serving Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Commander Fleet Activities Chinhae Korea, Naval Support Activity Diego Garcia, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and Commander Fleet Activities Sasebo. U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka staff is composed of active duty service members, U.S. Civil Servants (USCS), contract employees and Japan Master Labor Contract (MLC) employees.

The attack on Yokosuka was an air raid conducted by the United States Navy on 18 July 1945 during the last weeks of the Pacific War. The Japanese battleship Nagato was the raid's main target, though anti-aircraft positions and other warships at Yokosuka Naval Arsenal were also attacked. Other U.S. Navy and Royal Navy aircraft struck airfields in the Tokyo area. While Nagato was only lightly damaged, the American aircraft sank a destroyer, a submarine and two escort vessels and damaged five small vessels. The Allied pilots also claimed the destruction of several locomotives and 43 Japanese aircraft as well as damage to another 77 aircraft. Japanese anti-aircraft guns shot down twelve American and two British aircraft.
