Charenton–Écoles (Paris Métro)

The Gare de Charenton was a former French railway station on the Paris–Marseille railway, located in the commune of Charenton-le-Pont . It opened on 8 August 1849. In 1942 it was closed and immediately demolished.

The canton of Charenton-le-Pont is an administrative division of the Val-de-Marne department, Île-de-France region, northern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The Vélodrome de Vincennes (officially Vélodrome Jacques Anquetil - La Cipale) is a cycling stadium in the Bois de Vincennes, Paris. Initially built as a velodrome in 1894, it became the main stadium for the 1900 Summer Olympics; Events that took place in the Velodrome at the 1900 Summer Olympics included cycling, cricket, rugby union, football and gymnastics. However, the track and field events were held at the Racing Club de France. At the 1924 Summer Olympics it became the cycling (track) venue.The venue was the finish line of the Tour de France between 1968 and 1974. Eddy Merckx won each of his five Tour victories there. Prior to 1968, the finish had been held at the Parc des Princes from 1904 to 1967. From 1975 to the present, the Tour de France has ended on the Champs-Élysées. It has featured in two 2010 feature films, La Rafle and Sarah's Key, standing in for the Vélodrome d'hiver, in films about the notorious round-up of Parisian Jews in July 1942. The stadium is still used for cycling, football and rugby matches. In 2013, the ground hosted three cricket matches when Marylebone Cricket Club visited France.

The Marne (French pronunciation: [maʁn] (listen)) is a river in France, an eastern tributary of the Seine in the area east and southeast of Paris. It is 514 kilometres (319 mi) long. The river gave its name to the departments of Haute-Marne, Marne, Seine-et-Marne, and Val-de-Marne. The Marne starts in the Langres plateau, runs generally north then bends west between Saint-Dizier and Châlons-en-Champagne, joining the Seine at Charenton just upstream from Paris. Its main tributaries are the Rognon, the Blaise, the Saulx, the Ourcq, the Petit Morin and the Grand Morin. Near the town of Saint-Dizier, part of the flow is diverted through the artificial Lake Der-Chantecoq. This ensures both flood prevention and the maintenance of minimum river flows in periods of drought.The Celts of Gaul worshipped a goddess known as Dea Matrona ("divine mother goddess") who was associated with the Marne. The Marne is famous as the site of two eponymous battles during World War I. The first battle was a turning point of the war, fought in 1914. The second battle was fought four years later, in 1918.

The Charenton Metro-Viaduct is a railroad girder bridge located in the French department of Val-de-Marne in the Île-de-France region. It links the communes of Charenton-le-Pont and Maisons-Alfort, crossing the Marne river, as well as the A4 autoroute and 103 departmental road. First put into operation in 1970, the viaduct is used by trains on line 8 of the Paris metro. The total length of the viaduct is 199 m. Made up of steel beams resting on concrete piers, the viaduct has a continuous gradient, due to the difference in level between the two banks of the Marne. It was renovated for the first time in 2011.

The Pagode du bois de Vincennes is the seat of the Institut international bouddhique founded by Jean Sainteny who was the manager of the institute. It is located in a former building of the exposition coloniale de 1931, designed by the architect Louis-Hippolyte Boileau. On this 8 000 m² site on the edge of the lac Daumesnil are located two buildings of remarkable architecture. The most important one, the former house of Cameroon, was restored in 1977 and transformed in a pagoda as a place of worship. The second is the former house of Togo is slated for restoration by the City of Paris. It will contain a library for texts on the various Buddhist traditions. The Pagode de Vincennes is used by Buddhist schools of the Parisian region and has no religious leader. The pagoda is a place of common worship; it shelters the biggest Buddha of Europe, covered with gold leaf and measuring, including its seat, more than 9 meters high. The Pagode hosts relics of the historical Buddha since 2008. A Tibetan buddhist temple named Kagyu-Dzong exists in front of the Pagode de Vincennes.

The Kagyu-Dzong center is a Buddhist center in Paris, affiliated to the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. This center is linked to the 17th Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje.

Liberté (French pronunciation: [libɛʁte] (listen)) is a station on line 8 of the Paris Métro in the commune of Charenton-le-Pont. The station opened on 5 October 1942 with the extension of the line from Porte de Charenton to the Charenton - Écoles. It is named after the Avenue de la Liberté ("Liberty Avenue"), which runs above the station. Nearby are the Pelouse de Reuilly and the Vélodrome Jacques Anquetil in the Bois de Vincennes.

The Paris Colonial Exhibition (or "Exposition coloniale internationale", International Colonial Exhibition) was a six-month colonial exhibition held in Paris, France, in 1931 that attempted to display the diverse cultures and immense resources of France's colonial possessions.

Lac Daumesnil is a lake in the Bois de Vincennes, a public park in Paris, France. Its surface area is 0.12 km2. It is surrounded by "promenade Maurice Boitel".

Charenton-le-Pont (French pronunciation: [ʃaʁɑ̃tɔ̃ lə pɔ̃] (listen)) is a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 6.2 km (3.9 mi) from the centre of Paris, to the north of the confluence of the Seine and Marne rivers; the Pont (French for 'Bridge') part of the name refers to the stone bridge across the Marne. It is one of the most densely populated municipalities in Europe. The Charenton Psychiatric Hospital is located in the neighbouring commune Charenton-Saint-Maurice, which changed its name in 1842 to Saint Maurice.

École Vétérinaire de Maisons-Alfort (French pronunciation: ​[ekɔl veteʁinɛːʁ də mɛzɔ̃ alfɔʁ]) is a station on line 8 of the Paris Métro in the commune of Maisons-Alfort, named after the nearby École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort, the national veterinary school founded in 1765. The station opened on 19 September 1970 with the extension of the line from Porte de Charenton - Écoles to Maisons-Alfort - Stade. Also nearby is the Musée Fragonard d'Alfort, a museum of anatomical oddities.
