Leyland Hundred

ROF Chorley was a UK government-owned munitions filling Royal Ordnance Factory (Filling Factory No. 1). It was planned as a permanent Royal Ordnance Factory with the intention that it, unlike some other similar facilities, would remain open for production after the end of World War II; and, together with ROF Bridgend (Filling Factory No. 2), would replace the Royal Filling Factory located at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. It was built largely in Euxton, but was known as ROF Chorley. After the privatization of the Royal Ordnance Factories in the 1980s it became part of the Ammunition Division of Royal Ordnance plc and later a production unit of BAE Systems Global Combat Systems Munitions. Chorley factory closed in 2005-07 and the majority of the site is now home to the new Buckshaw Village on the outskirts of Chorley, although many remnants remain. The factory had a storage depot built deep into the Pennine hills, over Chorley, in the village of Heapey; the facility is still in use by BAE although its exact usage has still not been revealed.

Buckshaw Village (often shortened to Buckshaw) is a 21st-century residential and industrial area between the towns of Chorley and Leyland in Lancashire, England, developed on the site of the former Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF) Chorley. It had a population of 4,000. It is divided between the civil parishes of Euxton (south) and Whittle-le-Woods (north east) in Chorley, with the north western part being in Leyland unparished area in South Ribble district.The new development covers several square miles mainly consisting of the part of Euxton known as Buckshaw, which was requisitioned by the War Office in the 1930s. It is described by developers Redrow plc as "One of the largest brownfield schemes of its kind throughout Europe"; as of 2022 they report that over 3,000 homes have been built and 10,000 jobs created.

Clayton-le-Woods (Commonly shortened to Clayton) is a large village and civil parish of the Borough of Chorley, in Lancashire, England. According to the census of 2001, it has a population of 14,528. At the 2011 census the population of Cuerden civil parish was included within Clayton-le-Woods, giving a total of 14,532.

Buckshaw Hall is a grade II* listed 17th-century country house in Buckshaw Village, Euxton, some 3 miles (4.8 km) north-west of Chorley, England.

Buckshaw Parkway is a British railway station which opened on 3 October 2011 on the Manchester to Preston Line, near Euxton Junction with the West Coast Main Line. It is one of Euxton's two railway stations being in Buckshaw Village, formerly the Royal Ordnance Factory (ROF Chorley) between Chorley and Leyland. It is close to the site of the four-platform Chorley ROF Halt, which was closed in 1964, remained virtually intact until the 1970s, but was finally cleared in the early 2000s.

Shaw Hill is an 18th-century country house in Whittle-le-Woods, Lancashire, England, standing in 192 acres of parkland some 3 miles (5 km) north of Chorley. The estate is now the Shaw Hill Hotel, Golf Club and Country Club. The house is a three-storey building of ashlar with hipped slate roofs concealed by a parapet, and it incorporates elements of a smaller, earlier house. Three structures from the estate are separately recorded in the National Heritage List for England as designated Grade II listed buildings: the lodge, the gate piers, and the house itself.

Whittle-le-Woods (commonly shortened to Whittle) is a village and civil parish of the Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 5,434. Whittle-le-Woods lies on the A6, about three miles north of the town of Chorley, and to the south of the city of Preston. It is divided into two areas, the older part on the old coach road running through Waterhouse Green to Brindle and the more modern part on the A6 road where the church of St John is situated. In the north east is St Chad's RC Church and off the A6 is Shaw Hill Hotel, Golf and Country Club centred on the Shaw Hill Georgian mansion. It has experienced much residential development during the last twenty years. This has established the village as a popular commuter area, as it lies close to Preston and between the M6 and M61 motorways. Just over a mile to the east of the M61 is the hamlet of Whittle Springs. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes a junction in the hamlet, where the south end of the Lancaster Canal formerly continued north to Walton Summit. This is also the start of a flight of locks called Johnson's Hillock Locks, which continue via Heapey and Wheelton in the direction of Blackburn. Whittle is also known for fishing places, such as Lower Mill off Town Lane and Top Lock. Whittle has many public houses, and it is close to the Shaw Hill golf course on the A6.

Cuerden is a village and civil parish of the Borough of Chorley, in Lancashire, England. It is situated between Bamber Bridge and Leyland, and had a population of 77 in 2001. At the 2011 census the population was included within Clayton-le-Woods civil parish.

Euxton, also known as Euxton Junction, was a railway station on the Bolton and Preston Railway in Euxton, Chorley, Lancashire, England. It was opened on 22 June 1843 and closed on 2 April 1917. The line remains open between Preston and Bolton, however nothing remains of the station.

Cuerden Hall is a country mansion in the village of Cuerden near Preston, Lancashire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building. The Hall was formerly a family home between 1717 and 1906, and used by the Army until the 1960s. In 1985 it became a Sue Ryder neurological care centre. The Hall was sold to Manchester business man Colin Shenton in 2020 who is restoring it to its original purpose as a family home. The parkland and wider estate are known as Cuerden Valley Park.

Euxton was a railway station on the North Union Railway in Euxton, Chorley, Lancashire, England. It was opened on 31 October 1838 and closed on 2 September 1895. The line remains open between Preston and Wigan, however nothing remains of the station. Following the original station's closure, a new station named Balshaw Lane and Euxton, between Coppull and Leyland and about 1⁄2 mile (0.80 km) south of the original Euxton station, was opened by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) on 2 September 1905. Although closed as part of the Beeching axe in 1969, the station reopened in 1998 and is now known as Euxton Balshaw Lane railway station.
