The A556 is a road in England which extends from the village of Delamere in Cheshire West and Chester to the Bowdon Interchange in Cheshire East, bordering Greater Manchester. The road contains a mixture of single and dual carriageway sections and forms a large part of the route between Manchester and Chester. It also acts as a major access route to Chester/North Wales to the west and to Manchester to the east for the conurbation of towns and villages around the Dane Valley centering on Winsford and Northwich. The central part, which forms the Northwich Bypass between Davenham and Lostock Gralam, suffers because of the amount of commuter traffic from this area. The part of the route between the M6 motorway Junction 19 and the M56 motorway Junction 7 is a major route into Manchester and has been recently upgraded to a four-lane dual carriageway. The road is frequently congested, carrying approximately 80,000 vehicles per day in 2020 between the M6 and M56 and 45,000 vehicles per day From the A533 Junction for Winsford and Northwich to the M6. The road has a high accident record; between 1998 and 2005, there were around 200 accidents, resulting in 5 fatalities and 39 people being seriously injured.

Hulme Hall is a house on a moated site in the parish of Allostock, Cheshire, England. It originated in the 15th century, with additions and alterations in the 17th and 19th centuries. It is now a farmhouse. The house is constructed in brown brick, and has a roof of stone-slate and Welsh slate. It is in two storeys with an attic, and has an asymmetrical plan. The northeast front is the entrance front, and has three gabled bays. The garden front is on the northwest; it has five bays, two of which are stepped back in two stages. Most of the windows are two or three-light casements. The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. The bridge over the moat leading to the house is also listed at Grade II*. The moated site on which the house stands is a scheduled monument. It had been the home of the Grosvenor and Shakerley families, both of whom were prominent in Cheshire.The building was in a state of considerable disrepair for over a decade and had been on the official "Heritage at Risk" register before a £1 million restoration was completed in 2014.

Byley is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, about 2½ miles north of Middlewich. Holford Hall is a country house west of the village of Plumley, Cheshire, England. It consists of a fragment of a much larger timber-framed house, built in 1601 for Mary Cholmondeley on a moated site. Part of the building was demolished in the 1880s. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill. It has a stone-slate roof. The entrance front has two bays with gables and Ionic pilasters. The architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner describes this front as being "highly decorated". The house is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. The stone bridge leading to the house across the moat is listed at Grade II, and the moated site on which the house stands is a scheduled monument.Holford Hall was purchased privately in 1988 and the hall and its estate has been renovated. In 2014 the working horse barn was transformed into a special events venue, and the Holford Mill was reconnected. Today the Holford Estate's formal gardens, event barn and mill operate as a wedding venue.

Shakerley Mere is a lake and recreation area near Allostock, Cheshire, England. The mere is a former sand quarry, which flooded after extraction ended in the 1960s. Roughly triangular in shape, it bounded to the east by the M6 motorway and on the other two sides by the B5081 and B5082 roads. The site is managed for recreation by Cheshire West and Chester Council. There is a small amount of heathland, a designated site of biological importance, in the southeast corner, and a circular path runs around the perimeter of the lake, a distance of 0.9 miles (1.4 km).The fishing rights are leased by Lymm Angling Club (the lake is stocked with carp, bream, roach and perch). In 2014 a small number of introduced bighead and silver carp were removed from the water.

Ravenscroft Hall is a country house standing to the east of the B5309 road (King Street) about 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north of Middlewich, Cheshire, England. The house was built in 1837 for William T. Buchanan, replacing a former Jacobean house. It was extended, possibly in 1852 when the house was bought by the Moss family, and again in 1877. The house has since been divided into two dwellings. It is constructed in roughcast and yellow brick, with stone dressings and slate roofs. The house is in two storeys, with a main front of five bays, and a five-bay extension to the northeast. The garden front also has five bays. The house has an Ionic porch, and an Italianate belvedere. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.
