Hadrian's Wall Path is a long-distance footpath in the north of England, which became the 15th National Trail in 2003. It runs for 84 miles (135 km), from Wallsend on the east coast of England to Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast. For most of its length it is close to the remains of Hadrian's Wall, the defensive wall built by the Romans on the northern border of their empire. This is now recognised as part of the "Frontiers of the Roman Empire" World Heritage Site.

Chollerford is a village in Northumberland, England, approximately four miles (seven km) north of Hexham (via the A6079 road) on the B6318, the Military Road, not far from Hadrian's Wall. There is a roundabout in the village where the B6318 and B6320 roads meet and the traffic light-controlled Chollerford Bridge crosses the River North Tyne. Beside the river is The George Hotel.

Tynedale was a local government district in Northumberland, England. The district had a resident population of 58,808 according to the 2001 census. The main towns were Hexham, Haltwhistle and Prudhoe. The district contained part of Hadrian's Wall and the southern part of Northumberland National Park. With an area of 2,219 km2 (857 sq mi) it was the second-largest English district, after the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was bigger than several English counties, including Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Hertfordshire. It was also the second-least densely populated district (behind Eden, Cumbria). The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, and was a merger of Hexham and Prudhoe urban districts, along with Bellingham, Haltwhistle and Hexham rural districts. Tynedale was historically a liberty created alongside the county of Hexhamshire by Henry I of England. The district was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England effective from 1 April 2009 with responsibilities being transferred to Northumberland County Council, a unitary authority. However, the name "Tynedale", which predates the formation of the council, is still widely used for the Tyne Valley area of Northumberland.

Chollerford Bridge is a stone bridge that replaced an earlier medieval bridge crossing the River North Tyne at Chollerford, Northumberland, England. It is a Grade II listed building. It was built in 1785 by Robert Mylne after the previous bridge had been swept away in the great floods of 1771. Hadrian's Wall crossed the river to Chesters Roman Fort on the multi-arched Chesters Bridge about 700 m (770 yd) to the southwest.

Low Brunton is a small village in Northumberland, England. Nearby settlements include Humshaugh, Chollerford and Walwick.

Milecastle 27 (Low Brunton) was a milecastle of the Roman Hadrian's Wall. It was located on the line of Hadrian's Wall, approximately midway between the A6079 and the River North Tyne. Its remains survive as a slight squarish platform with a maximum height of 0.4 metres (1.3 ft), but it is poorly defined to the north and east.

Cilurnum or Cilurvum was an ancient Roman fort on Hadrian's Wall at Chesters near the village of Walwick, Northumberland. It is also known as Walwick Chesters to distinguish it from Great Chesters fort and Halton Chesters. Cilurnum is included in the Notitia Dignitatum of the late 4th/early 5th century. Cilurnum is considered to be the best preserved and best example of a Roman cavalry fort along Hadrian's Wall. The site is now preserved by English Heritage as Chesters Roman Fort. There is a museum on the site housing finds from the fort and elsewhere along the wall.

Humshaugh railway station served the village of Chollerford, Northumberland, England from 1858 to 1958 on the Border Counties Railway.

Chesters Bridge was a Roman bridge over the River North Tyne at Chollerford, Northumberland, England, and adjacent to the Roman fort of Cilurnum on Hadrian's Wall. The fort, mentioned in the Notitia Dignitatum, and now identified with the fort found at Chesters, was known as Cilurnum or Cilurvum. In 2016, public access to Chesters Roman bridge abutments was suspended due to flood damage.

Chesters is an 18th-century country mansion adjacent to Hadrian's Wall and the Roman fort of Cilurnum at Humshaugh, Northumberland, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Walwick is a village in Northumberland, England near Hadrian's Wall. Nearby villages include Humshaugh, Chollerford and Low Brunton.

Haughton Castle is a privately owned country mansion and Grade I listed building, situated to the north of the village of Humshaugh on the west bank of the North Tyne. It is around 5+1⁄2 miles (8.9 km) north of the market town of Hexham, Northumberland. It was built originally in the 13th century as a tower house and enlarged and fortified in the 14th century. At this time the castle was owned by Gerald Widdrington and, although the Widdringtons still owned it in the early 14th century, the Swinburns were living there. By the 16th century, the castle fell into ruin and disrepair, and it was attacked by Border reivers. A survey of 1541 reported the roof and floors to be "decayed and gone". The property was acquired by the Smith family in about 1640, but in 1715 a further survey stated the building to be ruinous. Significant alterations were carried out for the Smiths between 1816 and 1845, latterly by architect John Dobson to convert the ruin into a substantial mansion. The Crawshaw family came into possession in 1862, and a west wing was added for them by Anthony Salvin in 1876. In the late 19th century it was acquired by the Cruddas family. Part of the castle served as a hospital during the Second World War. It is currently owned by the Braithwaite family. Some commentators suggest it is the location for the traditional song "Waters of Tyne".
