Rushall, West Midlands

Shelfield is a suburban village in the borough of Walsall in the West Midlands conurbation. It is conjoined by the nearby villages of Walsall Wood and Rushall. The name Shelfield derives from the Anglo Saxon Skelfeld for sloping ground or field.

Rushall Olympic Football Club is an English football club based in Rushall, a former mining village now forming part of the northern suburbs of Walsall. The team plays in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

The Beacon Way is a long-distance walk of around 40 kilometres (25 mi) through the West Midlands county and Staffordshire, in the Midlands of England. It takes its name from Barr Beacon, a hill to the east of Walsall, and one of the highest points in the West Midlands. The Beacon Way starts at Sandwell Park Farm in Sandwell Valley Country Park and extends as far as Gentleshaw Common where it connects with the Heart of England Way.

Rushall railway station was a station serving the villages of Blakenall Heath and Rushall in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, England. It was on the South Staffordshire Line between Walsall and Lichfield.

Daw End Railway Cutting (grid reference SK035002) is an 8.1 hectare (20.9 acre) geological site of Special Scientific Interest in the West Midlands. The site was notified in 1986 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and is currently managed by the Country Trust.

Pelsall Villa F.C. was a football club based in the village of Pelsall, near Walsall, West Midlands, England. The team kit consisted of black and red striped shirts, black shorts and black socks.

Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy is a secondary school with academy status located in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands, England. The school is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust under the current leadership of Mr. S Turnbull. On 6 September , the previously existing Shelfield Sports and Community College was replaced by a new entity entitled Shelfield Community Academy. This was mostly a legality involving the governance of the institution, and did not disrupt the educational programmes at the school. Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy serves approximately 1320 students attending the school, including 420 sixth formers. The school is renowned for significantly improving its exam results within the last five years. In 2009, it was announced that many parts of the school would be rebuilt in a new state-of-the-art facility. Kier Education were appointed to build the new school. The first phase of the rebuilding project opened on 7 September 2011 to Year 7 students, incorporating English, Maths, Science, PE and Humanities into the new building.In September 2012, the second phase of the rebuilding project was partially completed in time for the start of the new academic year. New facilities were provided along with IT rooms; a new library, sixth form area, administration and catering facilities. The theatre, which had remained inactive since September 2011 due to refurbishment also re-opened at this time. Other areas, including Business Studies, Technology and the Sixth Form centre was transformed in October 2012 when the old buildings were demolished and an external regeneration product was finished in July 2013.

Swan Pool & The Swag (grid reference SK040019) is a 5.7 hectare (14 acre) biological site of Special Scientific Interest in the West Midlands in western-central England. The site was notified in 1986 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and is currently managed by the Country Trust.

Pelsall railway station is a disused railway station that served the villages of Pelsall and Shelfield in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands, England. It was on the South Staffordshire Line between Walsall and Lichfield.

Coal Pool is a housing estate in Walsall, West Midlands, England. Most of the homes in area were built by the local council during the 1930s, with a smaller development taking place in the late 1940s which marked the resumption of council house building in the borough after World War II.During World War II, an air raid on a house in Beddows Road on 14 November 1940 resulted in a 19-year-old Blakenall Heath man being seriously injured; he died in Walsall Manor Hospital shortly afterwards. This was the only civilian fatality during the Second World War.Coal Pool is part of the Blakenall ward of Walsall, which also includes Blakenall Heath, Harden and Goscote, and has had some of the highest poverty and crime rates in the borough of Walsall. The whole ward has been dominated by council housing mostly built in the 1930s, although a significant percentage of the older council housing was demolished during the first decade of the 21st century. However, the area has improved since being included in the Labour government's New Deal initiative in 2001. Community facilities and housing have been improved, and unlike the large scale demolition in other parts of Blakenall, relatively little demolition has taken place around Coal Pool, with the overwhelming majority of the properties being refurbished.

Harden is an area to the north of Walsall and borders with Bloxwich, Blakenall Heath, Coalpool, Goscote and Rushall. The whole area was part of the industrial revolution, with mining and metal processing being the main industries. Although close to the A34 main road from the Stoke (potteries) to Birmingham, it is still served by canals. The area mostly developed with council housing from the 1930s, though some of the older properties have been gradually demolished since the early 1990s. A large area has been left as park land for community use.

St Michael & All Angels Church is an Anglican parish church in Pelsall, West Midlands, England. It was built in 1844 to replace an older church on Paradise Lane and was fully completed with its bell tower in 1889. The Deans of Wolverhampton were also vicars at the church until 1846 when the church came under the ecclesiastical district of Pelsall. The churchyard also has a memorial to the 1872 Pelsall Hall Colliery disaster when 22 miners died when the pit was flooded by a sudden rush of water. The Bishop of Lichfield and the village paid tribute to the miners and had a memorial erected at St Michael and All Angels Churchyard in tribute to the miners who died. The church sits at the junction of Hall Lane and Church Road. The church is within the "Pelsall Common" conservation area and although not a listed building it plays an important role as a church for the local community and its church hall is used by the local community.
