Yugawara

Mount Maku (Japanese: 幕山 = Maku-Yama) is a mountain with the height of 626 meters, located in Yugawara, Kanagawa, Japan. It is a volcanic lava dome that formed about 150,000 years ago in the older rim of Mount Hakone. Its name "Maku", meaning a curtain, is said to come from the rock walls of columnar joints that surround the mountainside, alluding to the Kabuki theater stage. Makuyama Park (幕山公園), located at the southern foot of the mountain, is famous for about 4,000 plum trees that come into bloom from early February to mid-March. They were planted around 1954 by volunteers in the local blacksmith district as a countermeasure against the landslides as well as a future tourism resource. There are several trails to Mount Maku's summit, which takes about 70 minutes from Makuyama Park. The hikers will enjoy the gorgeous view of the streets of Yugawara, noted for its hotsprings, Manazuru Peninsula, and Sagami Bay of the Pacific Ocean.

Horikoshi Tunnel (堀越トンネル, Horikoshi tonneru) is a tunnel on Tokaido Shinkansen operated by Central Japan Railway Company located between Atami Station and Odawara Station with total length of 1.415 km. It was built and completed in 1963.

Yugawara Station (湯河原駅, Yugawara-eki) is a passenger railway station located in the town of Yugawara, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, operated by JR East.

Mount Nangō (Japanese: 南郷山, romanized: Nangō-San) is a mountain with a height of 810 meters, located about 1.0 kilometer east of Mount Maku in Yugawara, Japan. It is a volcanic lava dome formed about 150,000 years ago in the older rim of Mount Hakone. The summit of Mount Nangō is a grass field, where you can command a great view of the Manazuru Peninsula as well as the Izu Islands in Sagami Bay.

Nangosan Tunnel (南郷山トンネル, Nangōsan tonneru) is a tunnel under Mount Nangō on Tokaido Shinkansen operated by Central Japan Railway Company located between Atami Station and Odawara Station with total length of 5.170 km. It was built and completed in 1961.

Hakone (箱根町, Hakone-machi) is a town in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 October 2023, the town had a population of 10,965, and total area of 92.82 km2 (35.84 sq mi). Hakone is a notable spa town and a popular tourist destination due to its many hot springs being within view of nearby Mount Fuji, the most visited mountain in Japan.

Komagata Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Japan. It is the ichinomiya of Rikuchū Province. Komagata Shrine is called "Komagata-san" by locals and is a significant religious place in the Hakone region.

The Hakone Barrier (箱根関, Hakone Seki) was a security checkpoint which was established by the Tokugawa Shogunate on the Tōkaidō highway connecting the capital of Edo with Kyoto in Edo period Japan. In 1923, the site was recognized as a National Historic Site.

Mount Futago (Japanese: 二子山 = Futago-Yama) is a twin-peak mountain in the central volcanic cones of Mount Hakone, located in Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan. It consists of Upper Futago Mountain (1,099 meters) in the north, and Lower Futago Mountain (1,065 meters) in the south. Although entering this mountain is prohibited in order to preserve nature, Mount Futago is easily recognizable from various directions because of its prominent twin peaks and the relay towers of NTT Telecommunications East and NTT Docomo, which play an important role in Japan's busy east-west telecommunications.

Ashinoko Skyline (Japanese: 芦ノ湖スカイライン) or Lake Ashi Skyline, is a 10.75 km toll road in Kanagawa, Japan, connecting National Route 1 near Hakone Pass, with Kojiri on the northern shores of Lake Ashi. The entire length of Ashinoko Skyline opened in 1972, and goes over the scenic route of the outer volcanic ridge of Mount Hakone, with the views of Mount Fuji in the west, and Lake Ashi in the east. It is one of the first of the 50 or so scenic "Skyline" roads that followed in Japan, named after Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park over the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, U.S.

The Hakone Pass (Japanese: 箱根峠), is a mountain pass located between Hakone, Kanagawa, and Kannami, Shizuoka, Japan. It is in the Hakone Mountains and its elevation, 846 meters above sea level.

Ashigarashimo District (足柄下郡, Ashigarashimo-gun) is a district of Japan located in western Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Most sparsely populated mountainous districts are part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. The majority area of the city of Odawara was formerly part of Ashigarashimo District. As of 2009, the district had an estimated population of 48,713 and a density of 346 persons per km2. The total area was 140.73 km2.
