Vipava Valley

Ustje (pronounced [ˈuːstjɛ]) is a village in the Vipava Valley south of Ajdovščina in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It is now generally regarded as part of the Slovenian Littoral.

The Municipality of Ajdovščina (pronounced [ˈaːi̯dɔu̯ʃtʃina]; Slovene: Občina Ajdovščina) is a municipality with a population of a little over 19,000 located in the Vipava Valley, southwestern Slovenia. The municipality was established in 1994. Its seat is in the town of Ajdovščina. As of 2020, its mayor is Tadej Beočanin.Ajdovščina is part of the Slovene Littoral traditional region as well as modern Gorizia statistical region. The climate is influenced by the Mediterranean (minimum temperature in winter −1 °C (30 °F), maximum 17 °C (63 °F); in the summer time maximum temperature 39 °C (102 °F), minimum 20 °C (68 °F). Its characteristic is the bora wind, which may reach the speeds over 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph).

Ajdovščina Airport (ICAO: LJAJ) (Slovene: Letališče Ajdovščina) is a local airfield and tourist airport in the Vipava Valley, Slovenia. The airport was originally built for the Battles of the Isonzo and is today home to the Josip Križaj Ajdovščina Aeroclub and the ultralight aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel. The flying club is named after the Slovene war ace Josip Križaj (a.k.a. Giuseppe Krizai).

Žapuže (pronounced [ˈʒaːpuʒɛ]) is a settlement on the southeastern outskirts of Ajdovščina in the Littoral region of Slovenia. The village was burned down by the German Army on 22 June 1944.The local church, renovated in 1989, is dedicated to Saint Peter, but is known as Saint Martin's Church and belongs to the Parish of Šturje.

Planina (pronounced [plaˈnìːna]) is a village in the hills south of the Vipava Valley on the border with the Karst Plateau in the Municipality of Ajdovščina in the traditional Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It is now generally regarded as part of the Slovenian Littoral. It is made up of smaller clusters of the hamlets of Štrancarji, Marci, Dolenja Vas (Slovene: Dolenja vas), Brithi, Gorenja Vas (Gorenja vas), and Koboli.The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Cantius and belongs to the Koper Diocese. A second church belonging to the parish is built on a hill south of the main settlement and is dedicated to Saint Paul.

Tevče (pronounced [ˈteːu̯tʃɛ]) is a small settlement on the left bank of the Vipava River south of Ajdovščina in the Littoral region of Slovenia.
