The Corcovado Rack Railway (Portuguese: Trem do Corcovado) is a mountain rack railway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from Cosme Velho to the summit of Corcovado at an elevation of 710 m (2,329 ft). The summit is famous for its giant statue of Christ the Redeemer and for its views over the city and beaches.

Corcovado (Portuguese pronunciation: [koʁkoˈvadu]) which means "hunchback" in Portuguese, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a 710-metre (2,329 ft) granite peak located in the Tijuca Forest, a national park. Corcovado hill lies just west of the city center but is wholly within the city limits and visible from great distances. It is known worldwide for the statue of Jesus atop its peak, entitled Christ the Redeemer.

Parque Enrique Lage is a public park in the city of Rio de Janeiro, located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood at the foot of the Corcovado, on top of which Christ the Redeemer is located. The land was formerly the residence of industrialist Henrique Lage and his wife, singer Gabriella Besanzoni. During the 1920s, Lage had the mansion remodeled by Italian architect Mario Vodret, with interior paintings by Salvador Payols Sabaté. The National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) listed Parque Lage, on June 14 1957, as a historical and cultural heritage site for the city of Rio de Janeiro.In the 1960s, the land became a public park, with walking trails through subtropical forest. The Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage (Visual Arts School of Parque Lage) and a café open to the public operate from the former mansion. The mansion was used as the British Olympic Team hospitality house and is notably featured in the 2003 music video for Snoop Dogg's single "Beautiful".

Humaitá is a residential district in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is situated between the foot of Corcovado Mountain and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Neighbouring districts are Botafogo, Lagoa and Jardim Botânico. The name of the district commemorates the Siege of Humaitá in southern Paraguay, fought during the Paraguayan War in August 1868. In 1657, Father José Martins de Matos, Vicar of the Bishopric dedicated a chapel (then recently constructed, on the wooded lower slopes of Corcovado, a site at the end of the street now called Rua Viuva Lacerda) and opened the "Caminho Novo" (new path/way) to São Clemente (St. Clement). Nowadays this path has become a major thoroughfare, Rua São Clemente, which passes through Botafogo and Humaitá. In September 2004 the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro created a "Polo Gastronômico" (Gastronomy Precinct) in the area bounded by the Streets São Clemente, Humaitá, Visconde Silva, Visconde de Caravelas, Pinheiro Guimarães, Real Grandeza, Mena Barreto, São João Batista and Voluntários da Pátria, all within Humaitá and neighbouring Botafogo.

Associação Civil de Divulgação Cultural e Educacional Japonesa do Rio de Janeiro ("Civil Association of Japanese Educational and Cultural Dissemination of Rio de Janeiro"; Japanese: リオ・デ・ジャネイロ日本人学校 Rio de Janeiro Nihonjin Gakkō "Japanese School of Rio de Janeiro") is a Japanese international school in Cosme Velho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.It was established on August 2, 1971 (Shōwa 46). It opened to serve employees of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. The student body decreased after the shipyard closed in 1994. The school was previously in Santa Teresa; the former campus became the Ginásio Experimental Olímpico.

Cosme Velho is a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, adjacent to Laranjeiras. Its main street is Rua Cosme Velho, an extension of Rua das Laranjeiras. Cosme Velho is frequently visited by tourists.The Estação de Ferro do Corcovado (terminus of the Corcovado Rack Railway) is located here. Trains carry passengers from there to the summit of Corcovado Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The neighbourhood also includes the picturesque Largo do Boticário, which consists of a small square enclosed by several neocolonial style houses, built in the 1920s. The houses were constructed using materials from much older buildings in the city's Centro district which had been demolished. There are two houses from the first half of the 19th century at the entrance to the square. The writer Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis lived in a house at 18 Rua Cosme Velho from 1883 until his death in 1908. Machado acquired the nickname "Bruxo do Cosme Velho" ("Wizard of Cosme Velho"), supposedly because he was in the habit of burning his discarded documents in a cauldron. The house has since been demolished and an apartment block has been built in its place.

The Colégio de Aplicação da UFRJ (Laboratory School of UFRJ), also known as CAp UFRJ, is a public federal school maintained by UFRJ, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Being a laboratory school, it also serves as a training ground for future teachers graduating on UFRJ.

Fonte da Saudade is a region in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, which is not officially recognized as a neighbourhood. It is located in the neighborhood of Lagoa.

The Largo do Boticário (Apothecary's Square) is a square in the Cosme Velho neighborhood of the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The square can be reached by the Beco do Boticário (Apothecary's Alley), that passes by the Carioca River. The area is characterized by large, neo-colonial houses and Atlantic Forest vegetation.

Deutsche Schule Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Escola Alemã Corcovado) is a German international school in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It serves levels Kindergarten/Educação Infantil through klasse 12/turma 12 (a part of Sekundarstufe II, or senior high school/sixth form). It is located in the former US Embassy.There are two divisions: a German division and a Brazilian division. The German division, used by Brazilians already speaking German and German expatriates, has about two-thirds of its classes taught in German. In the Brazilian division about one third of the classes are taught in German. The German government gives support and 15 teachers from Germany are a part of the faculty.The school was founded by Helle Tirler, in 1965.As of 2014 the monthly tuition was 2,000 Brazilian real.

Jardim Botânico (English: Botanical Garden) is a wealthy residential neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located north of Ipanema and Leblon, just across Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and east of Gávea. Jardim Botânico lies in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.The district got its name as it grew around the city's Botanical Garden. The residents are generally upper-middle to upper-class and do not live near a favela, which is rare in the city. It differs from most of Rio's neighbourhoods due to the large number of large detached houses, again not that common in the densely populated south zone. It is home to many Brazilian celebrities and the headquarters of the nationwide television network, Rede Globo. Many of Rede Globo's studios are in the neighbourhood. The main road in the borough is the Rua Jardim Botanico (Jardim Botanico Street). The neighborhood leads to Rio de Janeiro's large Tijuca Forest, using a road that winds up through the mountainous forest. One of Rio de Janeiro's most famous carnival blocs parades annually through the streets of Jardim Botanico. The bloc calls itself "Suvaco do Cristo", which translates to "Armpit of the Christ" because Jardim Botânico lies underneath the right armpit of Rio de Janeiro's most prominent landmark, Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue.
