Cochichewick River

The Shawsheen River is a 26.7-mile-long (43.0 km) tributary of the Merrimack River in northeast Massachusetts. The name has had various spellings. According to Bailey's history of Andover, the spelling Shawshin was the most common in the old records, although Shawshine, Shashin, Shashine, Shashene, Shawshene, and later, Shawsheen, are found. The name, says Bailey, is said to mean "Great Spring".The river runs generally northward through the towns of Bedford, Billerica, Wilmington, Tewksbury, Andover, and Lawrence, where it joins the Merrimack. Like its parent, the river has played an important role in the development of the area, including industrial development, with many mills built to take advantage of the river's power. Today there are trails and parks located along several sections of the river, and a preservation effort is carried out by the Shawsheen River Watershed Association.In June 2001, the Merrimack River Watershed Council determined that the Shawsheen River failed to meet water quality standards. This situation was largely attributed to stormwater runoff via town, private and state storm drain systems. As a result of increased pollutants, major portions of the Shawsheen River are now listed as impaired waters on the 303(d) list of the Clean Water Act.The removal of the Marland Place Dam (originally built in the 1700s) and Balmoral Dam (originally built in the 1920s) allowed alewife and blueback herring to spawn upstream to the Ballardvale Dam in spring 2017, for the first time in over 200 years.

North Andover is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. At the 2020 census the population was 30,915.

The Machine Shop Village District is a historic district roughly bounded by Main, Pleasant, Clarendon, Water, 2nd Streets, and B&M Railroad in North Andover, Massachusetts. The district encompasses a well-preserved former textile mill village developed in the mid-19th century, with a variety of worker and upper-class housing, and two historic mill complexes. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Spicket River is a 17.7-mile-long (28.5 km) river located in New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the United States. It is a left tributary of the Merrimack River, part of the Gulf of Maine watershed. It is sometimes spelled "Spickett".The Spicket River begins at the outlet of Island Pond in Derry, New Hampshire, and flows south into Salem, New Hampshire, passing through the Arlington Mill Reservoir. The river continues through Salem, encountering copious suburban development, and enters the city of Methuen, Massachusetts, where it drops nearly 100 feet (30 m) in elevation over a series of dams on its way to the Merrimack River in Lawrence.

The John R. Rollins School is a historic school at 451 Howard Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The three story brick structure was built in 1892 in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, and is a prominent feature of the Prospect Hill neighborhood, visible from nearby Interstate 495. It is named for John Rodman Rollins (1817-1892), a local politician who served both as mayor and superintendent of schools.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. It is still in use as a school.

The Tavern Acres Historic District encompasses a residential development known as Tavern Acres, which was built in the 1920s with a landscape design by Henry Vincent Hubbard, then with the Olmsted Brothers landscape design firm. It is bounded by Bradstreet Rd., Green and Main Sts. and Park Way in North Andover, Massachusetts. The district encompasses Memorial Park, the Stevens Library, and properties facing Memorial Park and further along Bradstreet Road. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Engine House No. 6 is a historic firehouse at 480 Howard Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Built in 1895-96 to a design by John Ashton, the Colonial Revival brick building is the oldest firehouse building in the city, and its design was used in the development of other city fire stations. Shuttered by budget cuts in 2009, it was reopened in 2012, and continues to serve its original purpose. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Everett Mills are a group of buildings consisting of the Everett and Stone Mills in Lawrence, Massachusetts. A former cotton textile mill, it was the site of the start of the Bread and Roses strike in 1912 and the one time workplace of Robert Frost.

North Andover High School is a public high school in the town of North Andover, Massachusetts, United States. The school is a part of the North Andover Public School System, and is the only high school in the district. Construction on the school was completed in February 2004.

The Senator Patricia McGovern Transportation Center, also known as the McGovern Transportation Center or simply Lawrence station, is a transit station in Lawrence, Massachusetts. It serves the MBTA Commuter Rail Haverhill Line and Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority local bus service. The station, which opened in 2005, is the latest of seven distinct stations located in Lawrence since 1848; it is located in the city's Gateway District.

Holy Trinity Parish - designated for Polish immigrants in Lawrence, Massachusetts, United States. Founded 1905. It was one of the Polish-American Roman Catholic parishes in New England in the Archdiocese of Boston.The parish closed November 1, 2004.

The Essex Company Offices and Yard, at 6 Essex Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts, are the historic headquarters of the Essex Company, which was responsible for Lawrence's founding in 1847 and development in the 19th century. These facilities were built in 1883–84, and consist of a street-facing office building and four others: a carpenter's shop, foundry, garage, and storage building. They were designed by Hiram Mills, the Essex Company's chief engineer. It is currently the home of the Lawrence History Center's Immigrant City Archives and Museum. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and included in the North Canal Historic District in 1984.
