Bartley Green

Shenley Academy (formerly known as Shenley Court Specialist Arts College) is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in the Weoley Castle area of southwest Birmingham. It first opened on 4 September 2009. The school's academy sponsor is E-ACT, a non-profit education foundation.In October 2018 the school received an Ofsted inspection stating every area of the Academy was inadequate. With the results of this inspection the Academy was placed into special measures with a ‘notice to terminate’ letter delivered to E-ACT stating if actions were not taken to remove these special measures, E-ACT would lose its sponsorship of Shenley Academy and Shenley would be transferred to a new Academy Trust. However in July 2021, Shenley had its first section 5 inspection since 2018. This report stated the school was now overall a ‘good’ school along with 3 out of the 4 areas inspected named outstanding. Shenley Academy (formerly known as Shenley Court School) is located in Weoley Castle, Birmingham. Shenley became an Academy in 2009, with many changes occurring in and around the school. One of these was its uniform; the blue and yellow that had been used previously, for over 40 years, was replaced by black and red uniform, accompanied by matching sports wear. The change to an academy also brought a large sum of money to the school, this ended up being used to construct a new £24 million building for the academy. The new building opened on 10 September 2012 following a 19-month build programme led by main contractor Lend Lease Construction (EMEA) Limited, formerly known as Bovis Lend Lease. The sixth form provision was offered as part of Oaks Sixth Form College, a consortium of 7 secondary schools in South-West Birmingham.

Shenley Green is an area of Birmingham. It is located in the south-west of the city, between Weoley Castle and Northfield. Shenley Green was a post war development built on the location of Shendley Green Farm and by 1958 there were around 8,000 residents. The centre of Shenley Green comprises a shopping area, the Shenley Centre and St. David's Church. It is part of Bournville Village Trust. The Shenley Green Centre was conceived by local people and built in 1965 as a youth club. St. David's Church was opened in 1970 and its prominent feature is the large lantern tower. The former church building became the community hall for the new church.

Weoley Castle is a residential suburban district in south-west Birmingham, England. The area is part of the Weoley local authority electoral ward, and also comes under the Northfield local council constituency. The suburb of Weoley Castle is bordered by Selly Oak to the east, Harborne to the north, Bartley Green to the west, and Weoley Hill and Shenley Fields to the south.

The Weoley local council ward is one of the 40 electoral wards for the City of Birmingham, England. It is also one of the four wards that make up the local council constituency of Birmingham Northfield, the other three being the wards of Northfield, Longbridge and King's Norton.

Newman University is a public university based in the suburb of Bartley Green in Birmingham, England. The university was founded in 1968 as Newman College of Higher Education. From 2008 to 2013, it was known as Newman University College, gaining full university status in 2013.

Northfield Town Football Club is an amateur football club based in the Selly Oak area in the South of the City of Birmingham, England. The senior first team play in the Birmingham and District Football League, the over 35s play in the Central Warwickshire Over 35's Football League, the overs 50s team play in the Worcestershire Over 50s League and the youth and junior teams play in the Central Warwickshire Youth Football League and the Midland Junior Premier League. History Although Northfield Town F.C. came into being in 1966, its origins go back to the early 1950s. After spells in the Kings Norton League, Warwickshire & West Midlands Alliance and the Mercian League, they joined the Combination in 1957 (then the Worcestershire Combination). Playing under the name of Allen's Cross they won the League Challenge Cup in their first year and the League Championship in 1961–62. Following amalgamation with another successful local side, Castle Rovers, the club played briefly as Cross Castle United before adopting the present title of Northfield Town. In 2013 Northfield Town F.C. amalgamated with Shenley Radford Youth F.C. to create a youth system. This was the beginning of Northfield Town Juniors F.C., with the teams competing in the Central Warwickshire Youth Football League. The 2013-14 season was the last season in the Midland Football Combination, in which Northfield Town finished 13th before entering the newly formed Midland Football League for the 2014-15 season. For the 2021-22 season the club went through some major changes and made the decision to join the Birmingham and District Football League, with the hope this will help the clubs growth in the long term. During the 2016/17 the club twice broke its record for largest attendance, firstly Vs Paget Rangers, when 101 people attended the game, and then again on the last league game of the season Vs Montpellier with an attendance of 124 people.

Bartley Reservoir is a reservoir for drinking water in Birmingham, England, operated by Severn Trent Water. It covers 460,000 square metres (5,000,000 sq ft). The reservoir is about 1.05 kilometres (0.65 mi) long, over 450 metres (1,480 ft) wide, and about 18 metres (60 ft) deep at the dam. Its surface area is 0.45 square kilometres (0.17 sq mi). It is known as the place where Bill Oddie did much of his early birdwatching, and features in his books (notably Bill Oddie's Gone Birding) and television programmes. His first ever published article, for the West Midland Bird Club's annual report, was about the birds of the reservoir. The reservoir is also home to Bartley Sailing Club.

Frankley Water Treatment Works is a drinking water plant at Frankley, Birmingham, England. Owned by Severn Trent Water, it supplies drinking water to Birmingham and the surrounding area. The plant treats water from the Elan Valley in Wales, which arrives at Frankley Reservoir by gravity feed along the Elan aqueduct with a gradient of 1 in 2,300.
