Union is a city in and the county seat of Franklin County, Missouri, United States. It is located on the Bourbeuse River, 50 miles (80 km) southwest of St. Louis. The population was 12,348 at the 2020 census.

The 1970 propane vapor cloud explosion in Port Hudson in Missouri resulted from a propane pipeline break, which led to the formation of a large, dense vapor cloud. Upon ignition, the vapor cloud exploded with tremendous force. Both near- and far-field damage indicate that this explosion may be attributed to the detonation of propane in air with an energy release equivalent to that from about 50 tons of detonating trinitrotoluene (TNT). The violence of the explosion is likely unprecedented. As such, the accident is widely quoted as one of the first, if not the first, confirmed accidental occurrences of an unconfined vapor cloud deflagration that turns into a detonation - a so-called deflagration to detonation transition. The accident represents a "worst-possible" sort of case history for assessment of the hazards of fuel transportation. The accident took place in Port Hudson, Franklin County, Missouri, on December 9, 1970. The pipeline was owned by Phillips Pipeline Company.

Caldwell Farm, also known as The Caldwell Place, is a historic home and farm located near Washington, Franklin County, Missouri. The farmhouse was built about 1882, and is a two-story, central passage plan, red brick I-house. A rear ell was added about 1900 and extended about 1945. It sits on a rubble stone foundation and has a gable roof. It features a two-story porch. Also on the property are the contributing large barn (1897), two concrete silos, a poultry house, corn crib, feed-mixing shed, an old storage shed, garage and granary.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Voss Creek is a stream in Franklin County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Bourbeuse River. The headwaters rise just east of Missouri Route EE (at 38°23′07″N 91°07′39″W) and it flows to the east-southeast passing south of the community of Neier to its confluence with the Bourbeuse about 3 miles (5 km) east of its source (at 38°22′43″N 91°04′26″W). The confluence with the Bourbeuse is about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Union and 5 miles (8 km) west-northwest of St. Clair.Voss Creek most likely was named after Dietrich Voss, the proprietor of a local mill.
