Vermont is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 20 km (12 mi) east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Maroondah and Whitehorse local government areas. Vermont recorded a population of 10,993 at the 2021 census.The meaning of (behind) Vermont is "Green Hill". Vermont is bordered by Mitcham to the north, Nunawading and Forest Hill to the west, Vermont South to the south and Wantirna and Ringwood to the east. The suburb of Vermont is the location of the Vermont Volunteers Roll of Honour for the First World War. The honour board used to hang in the former Mechanics Institute Hall, which was on the site now occupied by the Scout Hall. Some of the names listed are also included on the Mitcham and Blackburn War Memorials.

Vermont Secondary College is a state high school located in the eastern Melbourne suburb of Vermont, Victoria, Australia. Vermont Secondary College opened as Vermont High School in 1962. The school buildings were constructed in stages between 1962 and 1970 using the Light Timber Construction (LTC) design of the Victorian Public Works Department. At completion, two classroom wings (designated "N" and "C" and a technical wing (designated "S") were constructed. In later years, a gymnasium/canteen complex was constructed, being partially funded by the former City of Nunawading as well as a football/cricket oval and soccer field. The school changed its name to Vermont Secondary College in 1991. Vermont Secondary College school provides education for years 7–12 in the VCE system. The school has recently undergone significant renovations with 2 of the 3 LTC wings undergoing significant remodelling and partial demolition and a 4th wing consisting of 12 portable class rooms being added. The grounds have also been improved with a fenced artificial surface soccer pitch being added as well as new set of asphalt netball/basketball courts with line markings for tennis also. In 2010 the school structure was also significantly altered with a house system of 3 houses introduced. The houses are Hotham (Blue house), Macedon (Green house) & Stirling (Red house). The 3 Houses are all of which named after mountains to go with the school's previous tradition. Each house has a male and female house captain from year 12. There are also now two school captains, a male and a female chosen from year 12. The school has a strong reputation for both academic success and sporting success with many sports teams making state finals. The school also has a strong music program although it has suffered significant downsizing as a result of funding redistribution in recent years.

Nunawading Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. It was created in 1976, based in the outer eastern Melbourne suburbs including Nunawading. It was finally abolished 29 March 1996. Much of its area was replaced by Koonung Province. In the 1985 election, the result for this province was subject to much controversy when the vote ended with a complete dead heat after preferences. Both the Labor candidate Bob Ives and the Liberal candidate Rosemary Varty received 54,821 votes each. The returning officer, Kathleen Leonard, was required by law to make a casting vote, which she did so by drawing a name from a ballot box. The name drawn was Bob Ives and he was declared elected.This result did not stand, and a by-election was called, in which the Liberal candidate Varty won with a swing to her.

The City of Nunawading was a local government area about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 41.61 square kilometres (16.07 sq mi), and existed from 1925 until 1994.

It is in the local government area of the City of Whitehorse. Heatherdale junior football club existed from 1969 until 1997 when it merged with Heathmont Junior football club to become the Heathmont Jets.

Nunawading railway station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Nunawading and opened on 4 June 1888 as Tunstall. It was renamed Nunawading on 1 November 1945.

Vermont South is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 26 km (16 miles) east of its Central Business District. It had a population of 11,954 at the 2021 census.The eastern boundary is Dandenong Creek, which flows from the Dandenong Ranges through to Port Phillip. The suburb was mostly developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, after developers bought the apple orchards in the area.

Winlaton Youth Training Centre was a Government owned and run female youth correctional facility located on 18 acres (73,000 m2) at 186 Springvale Road Nunawading, Victoria, Australia. The facility was designed to accommodate 14- to 18-year-old wards of the state. It opened in 1956 as the Winlaton Juvenile School, and closed in 1993 as the Nunawading Youth Residential Facility. A housing estate (Candlebark Estate) now occupies the site.
