Heatherdale is a neighbourhood of Mitcham, in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, centred on the Heatherdale railway station, on the Lilydale and Belgrave railway lines. It is in the local government area of the City of Whitehorse. Heatherdale junior football club existed from 1969 until 1997 when it merged with Heathmont Junior football club to become the Heathmont Jets.

Mitcham is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 20 km east from Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Whitehorse local government area. Mitcham recorded a population of 16,795 at the 2021 census.

Schwerkolt Cottage is a pioneer cottage built around 1880 at Mitcham, Victoria. This heritage site encompasses the original stone cottage, associated replicated outbuildings and a local history museum, surrounded by 2.25 hectares of gardens and bushland, and adjacent to Yarran Dheran bushland park. The stone cottage has been restored to its original condition and furnished in a style of the period and houses items curated by the Whitehorse Historical Society. The cottage is of an unusual design with three rooms opening onto a verandah with individual external doors but no doors between the rooms. There are communication holes between the rooms. This is believed to be a vernacular style from Schwerkolt's homeland. History August Schwerkolt (1822-1886) emigrated with his wife Paulina (1823-1884) from the town of Świebodzin in Prussia arriving at Hobson’s Bay on December 20 1849. They settled initially in Northcote, where several fellow Germans had already established. On 14 December 1861, the Schwerkolts purchased 88 acres of land beside the Mullum Mullum Creek or Deep Creek, Mitcham, and with their children worked both properties for a time, with a market garden at Northcote, and charcoal-burning at Mitcham, while they cleared the Mitcham property for mixed farming. Schwerkolt built the first house at Mitcham in 1864 using stone excavated from near the creek and progressively added several other outbuildings, including a stone smokehouse, a second timber cottage and stables, a blacksmith and a wine cellar. Schwerkolt built a third cottage in stone with three rooms around 1886. August married a second time (to Wilhelmina) in 1885, and the cottage was only partially finished when he died in January 1886.The cottage was rented out to tenants for some time but was condemned in 1960 by the Department of Housing. Still, the impending demolition resulted in the local community campaigning to preserve it. The former City of Nunawading purchased the site in 1964, and restoration was carried out by a group of volunteers committed to local heritage issues. The restored building was opened by the Governor of Victoria, Sir Rohan Delacombe, on 17 November 1965. Further reconstruction of original buildings including the blacksmith, barn, stone smokehouse, and underground wine cellars was undertaken, and new buildings were erected to house the collection of the Whitehorse Historical Society. The smokehouse has been reconstructed using original photographs from the Schwerkolt family whilst not in the original location. The cellar however was reconstructed in its original place after archaeological excavations located its existence. This local history museum was opened in 1977 and has had several extensions added to it over the last 15 years. An orchard shed was also constructed in mid-2000.

Mitcham railway station is located on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Mitcham, and it opened on 25 December 1882.

Yarran Dheran Nature Reserve forms part of the Mullum Mullum Valley and is bushland park, located in Melbourne on the border of Donvale, on the banks of the Mullum Mullum Creek. The Reserve is 7.2 hectares and hosts a mix of remnant and regenerated bushland, and many native species of wildlife, particularly birds, of which 85 species may be seen. The Mullum Mullum Creek Trail runs through the Reserve and there are many unsealed bush tracks through the native bushland. There is an Information Centre in the Reserve which is open on Sunday afternoons from 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm subject to volunteer availability. The Reserve includes a series of ponds that feed a cascade to the creek during wet spells. There are toilets and mown areas for picnics and seating. Yarran Dheran is a Dogs on Lead Reserve.

Vermont is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 20 km (12 mi) east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Maroondah and Whitehorse local government areas. Vermont recorded a population of 10,993 at the 2021 census.The meaning of (behind) Vermont is "Green Hill". Vermont is bordered by Mitcham to the north, Nunawading and Forest Hill to the west, Vermont South to the south and Wantirna and Ringwood to the east. The suburb of Vermont is the location of the Vermont Volunteers Roll of Honour for the First World War. The honour board used to hang in the former Mechanics Institute Hall, which was on the site now occupied by the Scout Hall. Some of the names listed are also included on the Mitcham and Blackburn War Memorials.

Southwood Boys Grammar School was an independent school located in Ringwood, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. It was the boys campus of Tintern Schools and was founded in 1999, accepting boys up to year 7. In 2014, students were moved to the main Tintern campus and the site was sold to the Salvation Army as their training headquarters. The school still accepts boys from ELC–Year 12, who are part of Tintern Schools.

Mullauna College is a public, co-educational high school in Mitcham, Victoria, Australia servicing year 7 to 12. It is located on the corner of Mitcham and Springfield Roads, and presently has an enrolment of approximately 500 local and international students. The Principal team of Mullauna College consists of Harald Ruff as Principal, Jeff McMillin as Assistant Principal and Margaret Graham as Assistant Principal.

Nunawading Province was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council. It was created in 1976, based in the outer eastern Melbourne suburbs including Nunawading. It was finally abolished 29 March 1996. Much of its area was replaced by Koonung Province. In the 1985 election, the result for this province was subject to much controversy when the vote ended with a complete dead heat after preferences. Both the Labor candidate Bob Ives and the Liberal candidate Rosemary Varty received 54,821 votes each. The returning officer, Kathleen Leonard, was required by law to make a casting vote, which she did so by drawing a name from a ballot box. The name drawn was Bob Ives and he was declared elected.This result did not stand, and a by-election was called, in which the Liberal candidate Varty won with a swing to her.

The City of Nunawading was a local government area about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 41.61 square kilometres (16.07 sq mi), and existed from 1925 until 1994.

Vermont Secondary College is a state high school located in the eastern Melbourne suburb of Vermont, Victoria, Australia. Vermont Secondary College opened as Vermont High School in 1962. The school buildings were constructed in stages between 1962 and 1970 using the Light Timber Construction (LTC) design of the Victorian Public Works Department. At completion, two classroom wings (designated "N" and "C" and a technical wing (designated "S") were constructed. In later years, a gymnasium/canteen complex was constructed, being partially funded by the former City of Nunawading as well as a football/cricket oval and soccer field. The school changed its name to Vermont Secondary College in 1991. Vermont Secondary College school provides education for years 7–12 in the VCE system. The school has recently undergone significant renovations with 2 of the 3 LTC wings undergoing significant remodelling and partial demolition and a 4th wing consisting of 12 portable class rooms being added. The grounds have also been improved with a fenced artificial surface soccer pitch being added as well as new set of asphalt netball/basketball courts with line markings for tennis also. In 2010 the school structure was also significantly altered with a house system of 3 houses introduced. The houses are Hotham (Blue house), Macedon (Green house) & Stirling (Red house). The 3 Houses are all of which named after mountains to go with the school's previous tradition. Each house has a male and female house captain from year 12. There are also now two school captains, a male and a female chosen from year 12. The school has a strong reputation for both academic success and sporting success with many sports teams making state finals. The school also has a strong music program although it has suffered significant downsizing as a result of funding redistribution in recent years.
