Drakes Broughton and Wadborough

Drakes Broughton is a village in Worcestershire, England. The village is located on the B4084 road (previously the A44) 2 miles north-west of Pershore and 7 miles south-east of Worcester. The village has two pubs; the Old Oak and the Plough and Harrow. Its school, St Barnabas, contains a Pre-School, First School and a Middle School, which then feeds into Pershore High School in nearby Pershore. Drakes Broughton has a recreation ground, on which the village's football teams play. The recreation ground is situated next to the village's church, St Barnabas School, and the village hall. Drakes Broughton has other amenities including a general store, hairdressers, and a fish and chip shop. The village gave its name to an early composition by Elgar, written in about 1878, a hymn tune with words by Francis Stanfield (1835-1914).

Wadborough itself has approximately 200 inhabitants. Wadborough has one public house, the Masons Arms. The village has one bus service, the 382, which runs between Pershore and Worcester, once an hour in both directions.

Wychavon is a local government district in Worcestershire, England, with a population size of 132,500 according to the 2021 census. Its council is based in the town of Pershore, and the other towns in the district are Droitwich Spa and Evesham. The district extends from the southeast corner of Worcestershire north and west. It borders all the other districts of Worcestershire, as well as the counties of Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. The district was created under the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974. It was a merger of the boroughs of Droitwich and Evesham along with Evesham Rural District and most of Droitwich Rural District and most of Pershore Rural District. The district's name, which was invented in 1973, contains two elements. "Wych" recalls the Saxon Kingdom of Hwicca, and "Avon" is for the River Avon. Wychavon District Council was a joint 'Council of the Year 2007', along with High Peak Borough Council. It was also featured as the 'Best Council to work for by the Sunday Times. It increasingly shares management and staff with neighbouring Malvern Hills District Council.In December a Roman Road was unearthed by Severn Trent workmen digging up the road while completing sewerage work in the area. Aidan Smyth, archaeology advisor for Wychavon District Council, believed it to be a Roman ford, which could hold global significance.

The parish includes the hamlet of Hawbridge. In 2011 the parish had a population of 453. The parish touches Norton Juxta Kempsey, Whittington, Peopleton, Drakes Broughton and Wadborough and White Ladies Aston. Many houses in the village date from the 17th century. The scientist and cleric William Derham, the first man to accurately measure the speed of sound, was born in Stoulton in 1657.
