Khlong Phra Khanong

Phra Khanong (Thai: พระโขนง) is a neighbourhood in Bangkok, divided between Phra Khanong Subdistrict in Khlong Toei District and Phra Khanong Nuea Subdistrict in Watthana District. It historically grew up around Khlong Phra Khanong (Phra Khanong Canal), and is nowadays centred around Phra Khanong Junction, the three-way road junction where Rama IV Road (heading west) meets Sukhumvit Road (travelling in a northwest-southeast direction), and the nearby Sukhumvit 71 or Pridi Banomyong Road. Khlong Phra Khanong was excavated from 1837 to 1840, and rural communities soon settled along its banks. The historical settlement is believed to be the source of the ghost legend of Mae Nak Phra Khanong. Sukhumvit Road was built during the mid-twentieth century, linking Bangkok to the eastern seaboard and bringing development along with it. The new Phra Khanong neighbourhood grew up around Sukhumvit, and became a suburban commercial centre during the late 1970s to early 1980s. It was home to six cinemas, as well as several department stores. The neighbourhood soon fell into decline, but begin seeing revival as the BTS Skytrain, opened in 1999, brought new development. The neighbourhood is served by the Phra Khanong station, and is now home to several residential condominium towers, but remains much more low-key than nearby Ekkamai and Thong Lo, located inbound along Sukhumvit Road. Phra Khanong Junction has been ranked as the road junction with the worst congestion in the city.

On Nut station (Thai: สถานีอ่อนนุช, pronounced [sā.tʰǎː.nīː ʔɔ̀ːn nút]) is a BTS skytrain station, on the Sukhumvit line in the area of three district of Bangkok: Khlong Toei, Watthana, Phra Khanong. The station is located on Sukhumvit Road to the south of On Nut junction (On Nut Road). Inside the station gate you can find ATMs, a chemist and assorted other small businesses. On Nut BTS station is connected via walkway to both a Tesco Lotus and Century Cinema complex. On Nut BTS station is a terminus of Sukhumvit Line first section which opened 5 December 1999. Between 1999 and 2011 it was the eastern terminus of the line, until the opening of 5.2-km extension to Bearing Station.

Phra Khanong station (Thai: สถานีพระโขนง, pronounced [sā.tʰǎː.nīː pʰráʔ kʰā.nǒːŋ]) is a BTS skytrain station on the Sukhumvit line between Khlong Toei and Watthana Districts, Bangkok, Thailand. The station is located on Sukhumvit Road to the west of Phra Khanong and Sukhumvit 71 Road junction near Phra Khanong market.

Phra Khanong Nuea (Thai: พระโขนงเหนือ, pronounced [pʰráʔ kʰā.nǒːŋ nɯ̌a̯]) is a khwaeng (subdistrict) of Watthana District, in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2020, it had a total population of 22,339 people.

Khlong Toei (also Klong Toey, Thai: คลองเตย, pronounced [kʰlɔ̄ːŋ tɤ̄ːj]) is a district in central Bangkok, long known for its slum. It is bordered by the Chao Phraya River and contains major port facilities. It is also the site of a major market, the Khlong Toei Market. Neighboring districts are (clockwise from the north): Watthana, Phra Khanong, Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan province (across the Chao Phraya), Yan Nawa, Sathon, and Pathum Wan.

Kluaynamthai, also Kluai Nam Thai, (Thai: กล้วยน้ำไท), is the name of the area surrounding Soi Sukhumvit 42 (ซอยสุขุมวิท 42) in Bangkok, and an unofficial name of the soi (side-street) itself. Kluaynamthai is an alley of inbound Sukhumvit Road in the Phra Khanong Sub-district, Khlong Toei District sandwiched by Ekkamai BTS station (E7) and Japanese style shopping mall, Gateway Ekamai in Ekkamai area, and is a shortcut to Rama IV Road in the area close to Khlong Toei Port. Kluaynamthai Road runs from the Sukhumvit side up till cuts through Rama IV Road at the Kluai Nam Thai Intersection. It continued to run in an extension called "Kluai Nam Thai Tat Mai Road" (ถนนกล้วยน้ำไทตัดใหม่) near Khlong Toei District Office, as far as the end when it merged with At Narong Road at the At Narong Intersection under the Chalong Rat Expressway (Ram Inthra–At Narong route) in the area of Khlong Toei Sub-district, Khlong Toei District. The only phase that is a shortcut between Sukhumvit and Rama IX is one-way road. The reason why it is called "Kluai Nam Thai", because it used to be a place for cultivating a small native banana variety called "Kluai Nam Thai". Along the lines of Sukhumvit Road prior World War II was considered a semi-rural area up till Bang Na, and most of the land was occupied by the naval officers, such as Soi Thong Lo (Soi Sukhumvit 55), Soi Klang (Soi Sukhumvit 49), etc.Currently, specimens of this banana variety are still being planted for conservation at Bangkok University (City Campus), formerly and still colloquially known as "Kluaynamthai Campus", the first campus of this tertiary institution established in 1962 (in fact, it is located on nearby Soi Ban Kluai Tai or Soi Sukhumvit 40, collectively called "Kluai Nam Thai", there are four sois that connect to each other, namely Soi Saman Chan–Soi Barbos 2, and Soi Saeng Chan–Soi Rubia). Kluaynamthai Hospital, a private hospital is also located in the neighbourhood. Kluaynamthai is considered a comfortable area to live because it is surrounded by utilities, such as condominiums, residences, schools, restaurants, shopping malls, as well as the convenience of traveling.

Ekkamai station (Thai: สถานีเอกมัย, pronounced [sā.tʰǎː.nīː ʔèːk.kā.māj]) is a BTS skytrain station, on the Sukhumvit line in Phra Khanong Nuea Subdistrict, Watthana District and Phra Khanong Subdistrict, Khlong Toei District, Bangkok, Thailand. The station opened on 5 December 1999 along with the rest of the Sukhumvit Line's first phase. The elevated station is located on Sukhumvit Road at Soi Ekkamai (Soi Sukhumvit 63) next to the eastern bus terminal to eastern provinces. Bangkok Planetarium, the oldest planetarium in the country is next to the station within the Science Centre for Education.

On Nut Road (Thai: ถนนอ่อนนุช, pronounced [tʰā.nǒn ʔɔ̀ːn nút]) is a soi (alley)-formed road in Bangkok. It is a separate section of Sukhumvit Road (Highway 3) known as Soi Sukhumvit 77 (ซอยสุขุมวิท 77) and also the name of the same neighbourhood that it crosses over. It is a road parallel to Khlong Phra Khanong and Khlong Prawet Burirom, separated itself from Sukhumvit Road at the On Nut Junction about 300 m (984.3 ft) north of On Nut BTS Station in the area of Phra Khanong Nuea Subdistrict, Watthana District, to the northeast crossing Khlong Bang Nang Chin along with into On Nut Subdistrict, Suan Luang District, up till reaching Soi On Nut 7 (Wat Mahabut), it bends to the southeast, then continued to the east and northeast. It intersect with Srinakarin Road (Highway 3344) at Suan Luang (Si Nut) Junction to the same direction, then crossing Khlong Nong Bon into Prawet District. In this section, it also served as the administrative demarcation line between Nong Bon and Dokmai Subdistricts from Prawet Subdistrict. The road continues running to meet Phatthanakan Road at the On Nut-Phatthanakan Interchange, then eastward cut across Chaloem Phra Kiat Ratchakan Thi 9 Road at Prawet Intersection. The road intersect with Kanchanaphisek Road (Eastern Outer Ring Road) at On Nut Intersection and cut across Sukhaphiban 2 Road at the junction of Sirindhorn Hospital before terminating at Soi On Nut 90 (Sirindhorn Hospital) on the seam between the three subdistricts of two districts; Prawet and Dokmai Subdistricts in Prawet District with Lat Krabang Subdistrict in Lat Krabang District, Lat Krabang Road is continuous route. Total distance is about 12 km (7.5 mi).Wat Mahabut in Soi On Nut 7 is the site of the shrine dedicated to Mae Nak Phra Khanong, a well-known Thai female ghost.Its name "On Nut", was set in honour of the surname of the land donor to build the early section of the road.Saphan San Samran (สะพานแสนสำราญ, "joyfully bridge") is the bridge over Khlong Phra Khanong in Soi On Nut 1/1 (Habito Road) that has a curve and beautiful scenery with the high-rise condominium complexes as a backdrop. Therefore, it is a popular photo check-in point for teenagers.On Nut can be considered as one of the important streets of eastern Bangkok, in terms of being a shortcut to various main roads, also a source of residence and communities that are important. Hence a neighbourhood with condominiums and international schools as well as a large number of residences of both Thais and foreigners.
