Sunnyside Avenue is a streetcar station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The at-grade island platform on Hawthorne Lane is the eastern terminus of the CityLynx Gold Line and serves the Elizabeth neighborhood.

The Thirsty Beaver is a bar (sometimes referred to as a dive bar) surrounded by an apartment complex, in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. The establishment was started in a one-story building by two brothers in 2008. When established, the property was surrounded by vacant lots but in 2015, a development company purchased all of the land surrounding the bar. When the owners of the bar's land and building held out against two offers from a developer, the development company built apartments in a horseshoe shape around the bar.

Louise Cotton Mill is a historic textile mill located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The original section was built in 1897, and is a two-story, 27 bay long, rectangular brick building. The original section has segmental-arched windows and a low-pitched gable roof had a monitor with clerestory windows. It was enlarged in 1901 by two one-story sections to form a "U"-shaped building with a courtyard.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Independence Park is a 24-acre urban park at 300 Hawthorne Lane situated at the western end of the Elizabeth neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina. The park was created in 1924 at the urging of Charlotte industrialist Daniel Augustus Tompkins, founder of the Charlotte Observer, and is the oldest public park in Charlotte. It is scheduled to reopen in October of 2022 after being closed for renovations that enhance accessibility and add permanent restrooms, among other improvements.Independence Park is split into two sections by Hawthorne Lane. Both sections lie below street level which gives the park a secluded and tranquil atmosphere, despite the fact that the site commands excellent views of the Charlotte skyline. The lower park contains a winding path, a rose garden, large, leafy trees, a reflecting pond, and a gazebo. The upper park contains more trails, a playground, several athletic fields, and the 300 seat Independence Park Stadium.Independence Park is the site in Charlotte of the Afro-Caribbean themed Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas on June 19 of each year.

Elizabeth takes its name from Elizabeth College, a small Lutheran women's college founded in 1897 on the present-day site of Presbyterian Hospital. The community began in 1891 when a streetcar was established along East Trade Street to the area, making it the second oldest streetcar suburb in Charlotte. Elizabeth began to develop rapidly after 1902, when a trolley line was completed, and was annexed in 1907. Home of Independence Park, the first public park in the city, Elizabeth became one of the most fashionable residential areas in Charlotte in its early days. In 2006 Elizabeth had a population of 3,908.Because much of the neighborhood was developed in the early 20th century, Elizabeth's trees have had time to mature. They now form a canopy over most of Elizabeth's residential streets. In addition, Elizabeth is more pedestrian-friendly than most Charlotte neighborhoods, businesses and residences are in close proximity, and most roads have sidewalks. The Walk Score of Elizabeth is 72, one of the highest in Charlotte (average Walk Score of 34).The current boundaries of the Elizabeth neighborhood are, roughly, Randolph Road/4th Street to the Southwest; Independence Boulevard to the West and North; and a creek to the East. Major avenues include Elizabeth Avenue and 7th Street. A substantial portion of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Elizabeth Historic District. The district encompasses 887 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, 4 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object. The district was listed in 1989. Notable buildings include the William Henry Belk House, James L. Staten House, Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church, St.John's Baptist Church, the W. Reynolds Cuthbertson House, the handsome shingled houses of John B. Alexander and his nephew Walter L. Alexander, the Jennie Alexander Duplex, Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the Rutzler Apartments.Elizabeth contains two major hospitals (Presbyterian Hospital and Mercy Hospital), and a number of medical offices line Randolph Road. Along 7th Street there are numerous old houses that have been converted into shops, offices, and restaurants. At the western end of the neighborhood lie Independence Park and American Legion Memorial Stadium. A development project is underway to revitalize Elizabeth Avenue. The Elizabeth neighborhood sponsors an annual Elizabeth Recycles Day, which was most recently held on May 11, 2013 in Independence Park. Neighbors collect household hazardous waste for recycling and/or appropriate disposal.Elizabeth is bordered by Belmont, Chantilly, Crescent Heights, Eastover, First Ward, Grier Heights, and Myers Park.

King's College was a for-profit college in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in 1901, over half of students came from the Charlotte area. There was also on-campus housing for students. King's College awarded both diplomas and Associate's degrees. The college closed in December 2018 due to low enrollment.

Plaza-Midwood is a neighborhood located approximately one mile to the northeast of Uptown in Charlotte, North Carolina. The neighborhood is roughly bound by Hawthorne Lane to the west, The Plaza to the north, Briar Creek Road and the Charlotte Country Club to the east and Central Avenue to the south.Locally known as one of Charlotte's most diverse and eclectic neighborhoods, it is filled with art galleries, funky stores, and restaurants. Just south of Central Avenue in the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood is the 19 acre Veterans Park.

American Legion Memorial Stadium is a 10,500-seat stadium located on 7th Street in the Elizabeth community of Charlotte, North Carolina. It is located on a complex with the Grady Cole Center. Both are located next to Central Piedmont Community College. Independence Park Stadium, a tiny public baseball stadium, is also close by. Memorial Stadium is mainly used for high school sporting events and also serves as a public venue. Before the construction of nearby Bank of America Stadium in 1996, Memorial Stadium was Charlotte's largest outdoor stadium, and is still the largest municipal venue in the city.

Grady Cole Center is a small civic center located on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 3,000 seat center is located near the city's center, and can host several types of events. It was built in 1954 to replace the Charlotte Armory Auditorium, which had been destroyed by fire. Originally the Charlotte Park Center, it was renamed in 1987 in honor of WBT Radio morning personality, Grady Cole. The arena is a part of the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex, which also includes the American Legion Memorial Stadium.

Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences is a high school in the Belmont community of Charlotte, North Carolina. The school existed in many forms before becoming CMS’s first medical magnet program designed for a student capacity of 600–800. Renovation of the original buildings, constructed between the 1940s and 1960s, was completed in 2015 by Morris-Berg Architects of Charlotte. US News & World Report ranked Hawthorne 36th for high schools within North Carolina. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® coursework and exams. The AP® participation rate at Hawthorne High is 93%. The total minority enrollment is 88%, and 58% of students are economically disadvantaged. Hawthorne High is 1 of 35 high schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
